- In a world covered by endless water... People eke out a living exploring the ruins of the past generations for Quantum Refractors, a powerful energy source. Protecting these ruins are machines created for two purposes: To eliminate any tresspassers, and to guard the Refractors that could bring back their former masters.
- Those that guard the systems of the past who go wild with rage are called Abberants, maverick units hellbent on sole destruction. And those that are programmed to destroy the Abberant Units are known as Purifiers. But this is not enough sometimes, and even Purifiers can be declared Abberant.
- This is the tale of such a Purifier, who was thrown headfirst into the life of an Abberant...

- Chapter One: Life Sentence
- A grimace, and a shot. That was all the girl could remember at the time. The events that transpired before her eyes happened so fast, it would make a human's head spin. Not that there were any humans left now, save for The Master, and even he had perished recently. All that was left in the ghost-like station of Elysium were machines being dispatched to the surface to ready the System Domains for the Carbon Reinitialization Program. And the one responsible for this course of action, the most loyal of units to the Master System, stared down the girl with malevolence.
- Sera was put-off by the look in the girl's eye. Emotion? No, impossible, a Purifier of this one's class couldn't possibly show emotion, Sera told herself. A Second-Class Purifier with emotion... Almost as absurd as Trigger's course of action.
- "Do you have anything to say for yourself, Second-Class Purifier Unit Isis?" The Mother Unit of the Elysium Branch asked. "Perhaps an explanation why you have chosen to follow an Abberant Unit's course of action in destroying Bureaucratic Unit Dyneth would be fitting for you to... explain." Sera looked down to her left. The recent trouble with Trigger had her flustered, not an easy feat to accomplish for an android, which would explain her trouble with the vernacular.
- "No, Mistress Sera, I do not." Isis said this in a condecending tone, staring right into Sera's eyes. "I merely followed a course of action I saw as appropriate. Dyne was intent on slaughtering as many Carbons on the surface as he could when he arrived, and I acted to stem his rage--"
- "Therein lies the problem, Isis. You seem to consider the Carbons as lifeforms suitable to treat as we did humans. But The Master is dead, and the commands of the System dictate the activation of the Carbon Reinitialization Program. The Carbons are nothing more than sources of material suitable for constructing more humans, provided we have the proper Genetic Code Samples to do so. Humans would compare them to cattle," Sera said.
- "Cattle?" Isis was stunned. "Carbons ARE human. They are the dominant lifeform on Terra, not us. They are the Master's legacy, and you call them cattle!? How dare you, Sera, considering yourself higher than humans. Has Trigger made you that blind with rage?"
- "How dare YOU!" Sera spat. She shoved Isis in the chest, pushing the girl into the doors at the far side of the room. The Purifier hit them with a resounding smash of a noise.
- Isis looked up dizzily. The Mother Unit stood there, a confused and angry look on her face, before composing herself accordingly. The other Purifiers in the room, clad in their white armor and face-concealing visors, picked Isis up by her arms.
- "You have been charged with the murder of a fellow Unit of the Master System. Your plea is unnecessary to hear in these recent moments. As the only acting Mother Unit aboard Elysium at the moment, I hereby deem you an Abberant, and shall sentence you accordingly." Sera walked over to Isis. "I am headed to the surface of Terra to see to Trigger's rebellion in ten cycles. Yuna shall see to you before assisting me."
- She looked to the Purifiers holding Isis. "Take her to the Shuttle Bay and dispatch for Island Center 3-3-9-17-Alpha. Yuna will decide what to do with her parts once she has been terminated."
- ---
- Isis wouldn't know it at the time, but it would be the last time she would see her former superior.
- The shuttle she was aboard rattled in defiance of the pilots' wishes. The Purifiers who had her restrained before were too busy trying to keep the ship on course. Damage from atmospheric entry had taken its toll on the shuttle's hull, throwing it into the direction of a very large desert island on the surface.
- The pilots knew what would happen, and released the Purifier from her confinement. She would surely perish in the crash, would she not? These were the thoughts in their minds. They would die with dignity, knowing an Abberant would die with them...
- It crashed with a cloud of dust.

- Isis woke with a start. She lay there in the dim lights of the ruin, her body wrapped in bandages. The bandages were torn in places, exposing ripped skin and gunmetal polymers underneath. Strands of the skin kept shooting together, healing up and covering themselves with the wraps. This was her last bit of rejuvenation in the dim Elder System room; It had taken ten-thousand, five-hundred and eighty-seven cycles of System Time to heal her so completely.
- Her systems had been reset to their original parameters, but Isis had long since forgotten what they were. She sat up from the coffin-like device and walked to a plate of metal in the wall. A few movements of her hands, and the metal glistened with a vibrant shine.
- In it, Isis could see her new body. Short blonde hair, unkempt and unruly. A slender frame, designed to athletic proportions. Her chest rose with a visible lift when she breathed; a redundant process, but it did serve for her to study her proportions quite nicely. Her skin had a slight tan to it, contrasting what it should be for a sleep so long in such a dark place as the ruin. Of course, her body was covered in bandages by now, which she promptly tore off her feet.
- The Bandages seemed to cauterize at the ankles, some weaving into her skin with an uncanny design while the rest dangled off, torn and frayed. She tore at them further, bringing the weave up to her shins until she reached an acceptable height. Isis yelped with satisfaction, then looked at herself again in this makeshift mirror. She flexed her jaw for a moment, then sighed. "I'm all here," She said with a hoarse tone. "Uh-oh. Uh, let me see..."
- A few coughs, mutters, and a clearing of the throat later, and Isis had her voice back. It was sharper than she remembered. The youthful pitch she once had was correct, and at high fidelity at that.
- For once since her sentencing and slumber, Isis began to smile. She thought about going to the surface, to see what had changed since she had been asleep. She would need armor, though; the Elder System ruin would treat her as one of its own, true, but the Master System's units would surely attack her in attempts to subdue what they would now see as enemy technology.
- For this, she scrounged around the other rooms in the Elder System ruin. It was an old outpost-style ruin, filled with several chambers that the Ancients once used before migrating to Terra. Isis knew the ruin now like the back of her bandaged hand; being part of the Elder System now meant she could see everything inside this old outpost like she was a Bureaucratic Unit, so she quickly made her way to the armory.
- The Armory was one of the only few rooms that could still light up fully, a testament to how long it had been left unused by the Ancients. And true to form, it was stocked with armors and weapons for days long past. She examined several of the armors, before settling on one she preferred.
- Isis started with a darkish-teal bodysuit base, sleeveless and legless, with a breastplate made of slate-grey metal strapped to the front with digital green bands along the ribs. She quickly found matching arm sleeves, formfitting like the bodysuit and ending in one-fingered ring-gloves, as well as short attachable leg sleeves.
- She looked in a mirror panel in the Armory to study her form. The bodysuit fits like a glove, she thought to herself, But I think I'm going to need more than this. Her concerns were stemmed with the find of arm and leg armors, which she equipped quickly, after discarding the bulky shoulders and kneepads. There we go. Now I'm ready.
- Isis left the Armory with her newfound armor, Buster equipped to defend herself. The ruin was dim once more as she made her way to the exit, a cool wind blowing from the opened chamber doors at the end of her long walk. As she approached the doors, the light from outside became brighter and brighter, nearly blining her; She had, after all, been sleeping for the equivalent of several hundred years in the old outpost.
- Finally, the exit was passed, and she could see everything outside. It was a cliffside she now stood upon, with wide paths along the edge and what seemed to be natural rock walls carved out along the edge. Whatever Elder System machines that made the ruin must have carved it out for their masters' safety, Isis theorized as she peered over the edge into the distance.
- As far as the eye could see, Isis saw the waters of the seas below. The girl wondered what creatures lay underneath the waters. Perhaps aquatic Reaverbots? Maybe some natural fish? Isis' mind buzzed with questions, but the girl remained resolute as she made her way up the cliffside path. What she saw would give her grief in the hours to come.
- Exactly how could you cross a desert without water?
