  1. The darkness caressed his figure in his dormancy. Washing over his body in inky blackness as he slowly descended further into the cold waters. Bubbles drifted from his mouth and nose and slowly ascended towards the surface, refracting the rays of soft moonlight which filtered through to the bottom of the shallow lake. His thoughts swam, wondering what was happening... Attempting to grasp the gravity of his situation. He shouldn’t have been driving that fast nor should he have been distracting himself with the cellphone. “ Look.. There it goes.. “ He murmured within his mind as the aforementioned cellphone tumbled aimlessly downwards past him. He could see the surface; it seems as though he stopped falling. The water soaked through his clothes and chilled him to the bone; it was winter after all. Nobody swims in this weather. Nobody. He felt something grab ahold of his chest. It was the lack of oxygen which began to tear his lungs apart. He began to maneuver upwards through the sloshing waters. Slowly at first, but gaining speed as the pressure built in his chest. He didn’t want to die, so he swam. He swam up as fast as he could. Breaching the surface of the blue waters. A pool of vermillion spread around him. What was this? Blood? No time to find out. He turned his head and looked upwards to wear he broke through the guard rail, its mangled rails splayed every which way. Following the subtle markings on the rock from where his vehicle fell to the abyssal depths. He spotted the peak of his vehicle. It back sticking just above the water. Must have been thrown from the vehicle on impact. What was this pain in his chest? He wasn’t drowning anymore. Swimming to the bank of the water he rolled on his back and looked down. Oh man. A rather large piece of shrapnel was embedded in his chest; an eighteen inch piece of the guard rail had penetrated the lower left quadrant of his pericardium and tore his chest cavity asunder. Sanguine flow poured from his chest and pooled around him. “ Shouldn’t have been on that phone. “ He struggled to utter as infinity swallowed him hole.
