- When the game releases, “Techno Panic – Preliminary” will become part of Chapter 2 of Act I, as a flash back, two years prior.
- When the player reaches a certain point in Chapter 2 of Act I, Variant and Eiji have a flashback concerning Narros' involvement and Matteo's ultimatum, after Narros introduces himself.
- If the player had already played the Demo, then this Chapter is completely optional.
- Chronology:
- Double Elimination Tournament
- 16 Man
- Planet N8 (Owned by Narros – Approx. 23 hours away via normal Space Shuttle travel)
- Section B (Yukoto – Japanese Regional Territory)
- Population: Approx. 12,249
- The tournament is hosted by Matteo Angelo, whose purpose is to trick Shayo Network president Narros into going after him.
- Matteo bought out some of the Shayo Networks properties, only to destroy them, striking a nerve with Narros.
- The focus is on Eiji: He will defeat K98, Gauge, and Patacas in the first bracket.
- Eiji proceeds to take a break in an alley outside of the stadium.
- Nitro confronts and defeats Eiji in a brief street fight to takes him to Matteo's warehouse for the kingpin and the Dark Prominence to interrogate him about his involvement in the tournament, realizing that he is realized to the Seijitsu IT Services, a former subsidiary of the Shayo Network.
- Matteo threatens Eiji to throw the match against Nitro to remove potential problems.
- Eiji boldly smarts off at him and the even the Dark Prominence.
- Wolfgang, K98, and Tobias arrive at the scene to stop Matteo's intervention.
- The Dark Prominence escorts Eiji to the rooftop of the warehouse and proceeds to fight him out of both novelty and because of Eiji's disrespect towards her, with no determined victor.
- K98 tracks Eiji and the Dark Prominence to beat them both down into submission.
- He tells them that there is still a tournament still going on and to quit acting like idiots.
- The Dark Prominence simply leaves and Eiji goes back to the tournament, threatening K98 that he is going to get back him for this, to which K98 taunts him for his loss against Nitro and himself earlier.
- Tobias then shows up to further rub salt to the Eiji's metaphorical wound by stating that K98, Wolfgang, and himself just saved his life and also reminded him of his status as a punkass upstart.
- They go back to the tournament.
- Back to the tournament:
- Eiji fights Nitro in the tournament and wins, sending the Megaloid to losers and angering Matteo. Eiji then makes it to the top by defeating Keroda.
- Matteo decides to interrupt the tournament to host a 2 min exhibition match against Eiji.
- Eiji wins on a technicality but he is completely winded, while Matteo acts as if nothing really happened. After all, the point of the match was for Eiji to outlast Matteo.
- From the losers, K98 makes it to the top and fights Eiji who hasn't lost a single match.
- Nitro lost to Crush (Tama) by default because arrested him for his involvement in Eiji's kidnapping (when Nitro is in fact working undercover as a Net Ranger himself).
- Joined by Tobias was Wolfgang, Gauge, Variant (Katou).
- While Variant and Gauge observe, Wolfgang proceeds to chastise Nitro for his suspicious activity as of late (not realizing that Nitro is undercover, thus making his life a lot harder).
- Doomerang ambushes Tobias, Gauge, Variant and Wolfgang, forcing them onto the defensive and even defeats the three of them, each in their weakened state.
- Kagekiyo and Lisa intervene in time and they both defeat Doomerang and arrest him, because their tournament matches had already ended.
- The group then proceeds to escort Nitro away for questioning away from the tournament.
- Before they could leave, another robot gets in their way.
- Enter Zenottsubo (under direct control of one of Narros' NXO) who tries to murder Kagekiyo, Lisa, Wolfgang, and Tobias all at once in their vehicle, but this time, Variant and Gauge break free to overload Zenottsubo's system.
- Nitro allows Tobias to take him in for interrogation with the war machine indicating that there is more going on with Matteo than what he believes, to which Tobias buys.
- Wolfgang reveals his grandfather-like relationship to Variant and takes back to the general location of the tournament where the young warrior can watch his idol Eiji.
- Meanwhile, Doomerang and Zenottsubo's bodies are both taken to the BRML (Bureau of Robot Manufacturing and Legislation) for interrogation and analysis of their systems on behalf of Wolfgang who called the Net Rangers.
- When Wolfgang and Variant arrive, they catch the last match between Eiji and K98.
- Wolfgang leaves with Tobias to see where the latter's son went as he is nearby.
- Variant awaits for Eiji's final match near a bratwurst stand but he witnesses a thuggish individual seemingly running for his life from something.
- Variant goes to check the area and sees a person about the same age as him: Tobin McTalos.
- He found bullying two grown individuals who were apparently trying to mug him.
- Variant confronts Tobin for the first time, calling him out on his brutality to which Tobin responds by calling Variant by his real name and by calling him out on his passive behavior.
- Tobin then questions Variant on what he really sees in the garbage that he chased off earlier and begins to imply that Variant is no better than the sluggish roughnecks running rampant around Section B, or even the people that killed his own parents.
- Enraged, Variant punches Tobin hard in the face.
- Even though it clearly hurts Tobin, he still tanks the strike, despite the shockwave it caused.
- Variant proceeds to punch Tobin again but the latter catches the fist his fingers, revealing (and indirectly) introducing O-Surge use.
- Tobin viciously beats on Variant in a brief scuffle and headbutts him through a vehicle and into a light post.
- He walks over to hold Variant by the neck and chokes him out.
- Tobias and Wolfgang arrive in time before the two adolescents escalate the conflict.
- Tobin warns Variant that it will only be a matter of time before they went at it for real.
- Variant was left confused as to how Tobin knew him, even with the Exo-Mod on.
- Tobias escorts his son towards a food stand to chastise him while Wolfgang walks Variant back to the stadium.
- Tobias also reveals that Matteo interrupted the interrogations between himself and Nitro, speaking about the NXO and also beckoning Tobias to fight him over what happened earlier.
- Nitro himself was then told to evacuate the planet.
- Variant continues to look on at the matches to witness his idol Eiji fight in the grand finals.
- Eiji ultimately wins the tournament against K98.
- Afterwards, Matteo congratulates Eiji on his victory but then three strange mechanical TXL life form known as the NXO interrupts the celebration with a group of Wraith machines and makes an attempt on Matteo's life and causing havoc on behalf of the crooked Shayo Network CEO Gin Narros.
- In addition, the Kaleido Network begin to go off, indicating that the planet is going to hit with a disaster caused from an irregular chain reaction within its core.
- All people are given 9 hours until evacuation because of gradual degradation of the environment.
- Matteo simply observes the chaos in front of him while satisfied that his plan to draw out Narros worked.
- Eiji himself rushes into action from the podium.
- Wolfgang proceeds to fight a NXO and destroy it on his own.
- Variant joins the fight alongside Reina, Eiji, Gauge, and Crush to stop another NXO.
- As a response, the NXO uses its sniper application to shoot both K98, Shaw, and two other security Megaloids to continue making the attempt on killing Matteo and anyone else in his way, just as the Wraiths also continue their attack.
- The Dark Prominence is found just outside of the tournament stadium.
- She manages to stop the third NXO in its tracks and cripple its emergency acceleration unit for slowing down its speed and lower the possibility for escaping the nearby authorities.
- The NXO uses K98, Shaw, and the two other Megaloids to distract the Dark Prominence.
- The Dark Prominence defeats Shaw and a Megaloid, while Tobias joins to his former student Reina arrives to dispatch K98 and the second Megaloid, given further aid by Patacas, Kagekiyo, and Gunthi when more robots try to kill them.
- Kagekiyo, Reina, Patacas, Gunthi, and Tobias destroy the remaining robots and then proceed to take K98 and Shaw to a repair center on Earth to check their system for any remains of the third NXO's malicious viral code.
- The Dark Prominence escapes to ensure the third NXO does not get too far and witnesses Variant, Gauge, and Crush getting a second wind to finally disable it.
- Variant and Gauge end up finishing it off though the chaos between the falling robots that under its control causes them to separate.
- Meanwhile, Zet (Tobin now using the Zeta-Module) finds Kuwangular causing Reina trouble, as he was still conscious of his own actions.
- Zet trashes the stag-beetle Megaloid and sends it towards Variant's direction to cause him harm.
- Zet calls out to Variant to fight him to revisit their argument.
- While Zet holds a distinctive advantage, Variant still holds on and punches Zet into a brick wall, thus enabling Variant to barely defeat Zet.
- Zet recovers and tackles Variant and they continue to scuffle, only for the conflict to end abruptly with Reina and Eiji breaking up the fight (Reina comically crushing their heads together) after fighting through a series of robots with Eiji keeping them at bay.
- Eiji picks them both up to bring them into Section A lot and tosses them, sparking yet another argument with Tobias.
- Before Eiji and Tobias could punch each other in the face, Reina steps between them to block both of their attacks and stop the conflict, telling the group that Gauge, Keroda, and Crush leave to confront Matteo about his apparent involvement with the NXO.
- Tobias promptly leaves to confront Matteo himself at the warehouse based on Nitro's interrogation and the Matteo's info-link interruption in their session.
- Gauge, Keroda and Crush fight Matteo only for them to initially lose in less than a minute.
- Tobias defeats a variety of security guards to reach Matteo in his warehouse, finding Gauge, Keroda, and Crush beaten from their rushed attempt and lack of strategy (with the earthquake frequencies not helping at all).
- Tobias and Matteo fight each other, trading blows and beating each other out of their tricks, both even making use of TXL.
- Tobias fares noticeably better against Matteo than Eiji did.
- The planet was shaking from their fight and they only had five hours left before the planet would start to crumble away in its catastrophe as there were also rough tectonic shifts taking place.
- Safety Megaloids and smaller shuttle buses were flying around to escort civilian humans and Meglaoids off of the planet and also help into Section A where the larger space shuttles and planes are found.
- Before either one could get an advantage over the other, a fourth NXO shows up once again to assassinate Matteo.
- Matteo easily destroys the fourth NXO in a single punch, terrifying Narros in the process as the CEO watches from Earth.
- The explosion from the impact causes Matteo and Tobias to separate, thus causing yet another earthquake at the ruins of the warehouse.
- Wolfgang arrives to confront Matteo himself and continues the fight from where Tobias left off.
- Tobias is distracted by the drones.
- Gauge, Keroda, and Crush promptly show up in the midst of Wolfgang's near-victory against Matteo again and this time they get the upper hand, from Keroda's scanning systems while also exploiting the kingpins previous wounds. Using Keroda's information and his confusing ninja techniques, allowing Gauge and Crush to fare a lot better than they did before.
- Tobias and Wolfgang both forced Matteo to exert far too much of his strength than what he liked and the polizei were arriving to arrest Matteo on the suspicion of involvement with Wraiths and the NXO.
- Gauge and Keroda are forced to deal with the remaining security guards that followed them while Crush uses the last of his energy to use the Kizamu Kobushi strike (which Ms. Yama later adopts as one of her primary moves).
- Matteo kneels in pain, noting that Crush was ill and not from the strikes that Matteo inflicted on him earlier, even stating that if Crush was not in the state he was in he would have been able to fight the kingpin on his own.
- Wolfgang and Tobias prepare to face Matteo again.
- However, despite Matteo's characteristic bloodthirst, his plan was already a success and Crush's condition caused Matteo to (comically) admit that he is too depressed to continue fighting and that the planet once owned by Narros was blowing up (mainly because Crush's condition is revealed to be the exact same as Ursula, Matteo's late wife, whom Narros murdered).
- The Net Rangers arrest Matteo and take him into one of the many evacuation shuttle where he will be jailed in Landsthul, Germany away from the Ramstein airfield.
- There is only 4 hours and 32 seconds for evacuation for the rest of the cast and all those who are on the planet.
- Due to the short notice of the destruction of the small planet, there were 211 casualties, leading to yet another tragedy to which Narros takes a major hit for in the PR. In addition, Narros himself was found at the Shayo Network office arrested for his involvement with the NXO.
- Meanwhile, the cast were able to escape the planet.
- Narros is coincidentally taken to the very same cell as Matteo, where the latter would proceed to brutalize the CEO of the Shayo Network for what happened to his wife Ursula and the fact that the said CEO caused the same condition as what happened with Crush when making the NXOs and even stealing the kingpins idea.
- Fast forward two years later to present day where Variant where the current conflict is taking place as consequence for the same events.
- Variant: “So here is to Techno Panic.”
- Non-Playable Boss
- Matteo is the final boss of the pre-release demo in its arcade mode. However, at least 40% of his move set is inactive. Consequently, he still does a lot of damage and has several unfair advantages over the player. Matteo will not be playable until the game releases.
- Non-Playable Hidden Boss (Deadly Warriors)
- Starting in the Pre-release demo, there only two hidden bosses. Both of these characters are going to synonymous with the “Deadly Warrior” concept.
- Zet and Doomerang are the only hidden boss characters present in the demo between the arcade mode and the story mode and as such, they are not playable.
