Metting Koa

Luke and Torch, his Infernape, have made it to the Totem Kommo-o's cave after a grueling trip through all of Poni Island. Traversing the Vast Poni Canyon was a pain in the neck, but a ranger's gotta do what a ranger's gotta do. There is only one person in your way now. A boy, clad in Kommo-o scales. His eyes are sharp, yet his smile is warm. He approaches.

"Alola! Name's Koa. I'll be yer -- ehem. I shall be your Trial Captain for today -- the last arbiter before you face Kahuna Hapu and complete your Island Challenge. You must have come a long way, so please, take a rest before we begin. If I may ask..."

"What's your name?"

Luke stares blankly at first, not really expecting to meet anyone out here in the middle of the canyon let alone someone who works for a Kahuna. Gardenia had told him to contact the local authorities before he started his mission, but as far as Luke saw that was her job. Luke grinned inwardly as he realized this fateful encounter is likely the first time he has followed his orders to the letter. Torch jabs him in the ribs, reminding him that he should answer, "Oh, Luke, Luke Forester. Nice to meet ya." he winces and rubs his ribs.

"Where do you hail from? How do you feel about your home?"

Luke scratches his chin unsure how to answer, should he just state his region, hometown, current town? He looks at the boy's scales and proclamation of being an arbiter for a Kahuna. He decides on all three since this felt very official. "Sinnoh, Born in Oreburgh, raised in Twin Leaf Town, now I live in Solaceon. I love my home, close enough to Lake Valor without having to deal with tourists" he says with a modest chuckle.

"What's your family like, if I may be permitted to ask?"

"My family?" This wasn't a particularly professional question. Maybe Kahunas need to know that kind of information? "Got a wife and three kids. Eldest is in Paldea for her learnin', middle child is off on his own league challenge back home, the youngest... well he's a handful, and my wife is less than pleased that I'm here for so long."

"How strong is your bond with your partners?"

"Torch here is my first partner, I've had plenty over the years but he's the one that sticks with me the most. We're best friends, simple as that. Not that I don't care about my other Pokémon mind you. I keep them on some land by Lake Valor, they tend to it in my absence."

"Why did you take the Island Challenge?"

"Challenge? No I'm here on ranger business. Which I suppose I should talk to your Kahuna about. I need to talk to him about Ultra Beasts." he says as if he planned this encounter from the beginning and wasn't just searching for Ultra Beasts on his own.

"Very well. For the first part of your test... here's my partner! Mo-o, come out!"

A massive, lumbering creature, stumbles forward with loud stomps and chiming scales. It's a Kommo-o. If this one is so large... how big will the Totem be?

Mo-o stops just in front of Luke, and with a scowl, presents his forehead scale to your character.

"All you have to do now is show you're not afraid. Come on, give it a go!"

Without hesitating, Luke places the palm of his hand on the scale. "That good enou-" before he can finish his sentence, Mo-o roars happily and fervently rattles its scales which causes Luke to laugh good naturedly. "quite an excitable fella."
