- BP is a gaming cafe in Boston with a legion of monitors and equipment but just like pretty much any venue in a city storing tons of CRT's is just not a feasible option. At NGPR we run Melee on Wii and Project+ on PC's using Dolphin Emulator. The reason for this is that Melee has gecko codes for the Wii that are able to reduce the input latency from LCD and make it on par with CRT, leading to a smooth and essentially equal experience. P+ unfortunately does not have the same luck and so it has to deal with the full lag introduced form monitors, and given P+ already natively has slightly more input delay than Melee it feels off and players were not satisfied with it.
- The solution to this is the run the game instead on Dolphin as it being an emulator eliminates the monitor lag issues, leading to a much more satisfying and smoother experience compared to Wii + Monitor. We play on 144hz refresh rate and also use the Input Integrity Lossless Adapters which ensure no controller issues or bugs, in addition all Dolphin instances are set to Exclusive Ubershaders to ensure no stuttering occurs. So far we have not encountered any stutters ever, with the exception of a rare one showing up in character select or other non gameplay moments.
- Trust me if I could run the P+ bracket on CRT I absolutely would but given the venue and other circumstances this is the next best thing, and in my opinion is very comparable to CRT.
