Instalação:
01) Desinstale todos drivers que você instalou até agora - vá ao Gerenciador de Dispositivos e desinstale o driver do "dispositivo desconhecido" (que é só desinstalar o dispositivo mesmo, já que não tem driver nenhum) e também desinstale qualquer driver pelo painel de controle (remover programas...). DEIXE O RECEIVER CONECTADO.
02) Reinicie o PC.
03) Baixe e instale o último driver do site da Microsoft.
04) Reinicie o PC.
05) Vá ao Gerenciador de Dispositivos - ainda vai estar lá o "dispositivo desconhecido". Clique com o botão direito e clica em Atualizar Driver.
06) Clique em "Procurar por um software em meu computador".
07) Clique em "Permitir que eu seleciona em uma lista de drivers de dispositivo no computador".
08) Seleciona "Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class (algo assim), então na direita, selecione Xbox Wireless Receiver for Windows (cuidado, vai ter a opção de Xbox Controller, mas é o Xbox Wireless Receiver!), pode ter várias versões desse, seleciona a mais atual, pra mim foi a 2.1.0.1329, e clique em avançar. Vai aparecer um aviso de incompatibilidade, ignore e instale.
09) Talvez peça pra reiniciar (aqui não pediu, mas eu reiniciei mesmo assim), faça-o.
10) Uma vez reiniciado, vá ao Gerenciador de dispositivos a você vai ver um novo item - "Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class", e abaixo, "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows". Yay!
11) Agora tente sincronizar o controle com o receiver. Aperte o botão do receiver, pressione e segure o botão grande do Xbox no controle até ele ligar, então aperte o botãozinho na parte superior, enquanto a luz do receiver ainda estiver piscando. O controle deve ficar com as luzes girando em volta do X por uma fração de segundo e então sincronizar com o receiver, e o primeiro quadrante deve ficar aceso. Yay! - Pra mim funcionou de primeira - (Se não, algumas pessoas conseguirem desplugando o receiver e reiniciando, então plugando o receiver primeiro, aí sincroniza, aí pode tentar com os outros aparelhos usb da microsoft).

01) Uninstall any drivers you've tried to install already - go to device manager and uninstall the driver for the "unknown device" (which is just uninstalling the device really, seeing there is no driver) and also uninstall any driver software through control panel. LEAVE THE DEVICE PLUGGED IN.
02) Restart PC.
03) Download and install the latest driver from the Microsoft Site.
04) Restart PC.
05) Go to device manager - you'll notice it still shows up as an unknown device. Right click on it and go Update Driver.
06) Click "Browse my computer for software".
07) Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
08) The list will take a while to load. Select Microsoft, then on the right, select Xbox Wireless Receiver for Windows (there might be multiple versions, go with what looks like the most recent one - mine was 2.1.0.1349) and click next. It will warn you about possible incompatibility, install it anyway.
09) It will ask you to restart. Do it.
10) Once restarted, go to device manager and you should notice a new slot - "Microsoft Common Controller for Windows Class", and under it, "Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows". Yay!
11) Now try pairing your controller with the receiver. Click the button on the receiver, then hold the big xbox button on the controller until it turns on and press the very small "connect" button on the forward side of the controller (the side with the triggers), while the receiver light is still flashing. Your controller light should spin for a fraction of a second and then Sync up and the first quadrant should stay lit. Yay! (if not, some people have had success by unplugging their USB devices and restarting and plugging in just the receiver first, then it syncs, then try their other USB devices again).
