life update 5/1/22

Hey, thought I'd give an update as to where I am with life and other stuff that's been going on. I've generally been less active online since June 2021 - not dead by any means, but streams have been way less frequent they they were in years past and I've stepped back from my former leadership role in the community. (I think it's safe to say that I used to hold a position like that, right? It's just funny that more recently, I wasn't even considered for one of the new Kirbycord mod positions. Not that I disagree, but just funny how things have changed.)

Overall over the past year I've just gotten way more of a life. COVID lockdowns and such were kind of my last break before launching fully into adulthood, which was definitely precipitated by me moving out in August last year. As many of you know I now live with two of my friends, Josh and Josiah and it's generally been a good time, though accompanied by all the extra work you'd expect, having to do my own cooking and cleaning etc etc.

I also started grad school for occupational therapy in September and the workload has been pretty heavy, definitely being the main contributor to my lack of streams. Other factors include me taking a more involved teaching role at my church that requires several hours of prep each week that I'm scheduled, as well as actually being able to hang out with IRL friends again after lockdowns prevented us from doing so for so long. I think throughout undergrad I could say that my main friend group was actually the Kirby community, but that has definitely changed drastically in the past year. I don't regret that, though not being as close with some of you guys as I used to be is a bit bittersweet.

Side projects: Pokémon Degen has more or less been on hold for the same reason that streams were, although I did do a good bit of work on it over Christmas break (helped that I was quarantining). Might start working on that again soon, but that's complicated by the fact that I also started a on a new action-adventure game concept with Deck (that may or may not go anywhere). Though it's worth noting that at present, we've made a non-zero amount of assets for it (record high) and a decently functioning engine. Maybe I'll post a preview or something once we actually have something worth sharing.

What's coming up next? My current spring semester is only a month long in total, so I wrap up in a couple weeks and then I'm off to my first clinical placement in Calgary from May 13 - June 30. I'll be staying with my grandma, so despite not having any school responsibilities and hopefully having more free time, obviously I can't bring my entire gaming setup down there. I'll just be bringing a few things to work on, though I'm not even sure if her internet is good enough to stream... but more on that later. In terms of what I'm going to be doing in July and August, tbh I have no idea. I might just stay in town and work, but I might also go travelling... might be a good opportunity. We'll see.

In terms of gaming/stream plans, relay's done now, and I've been drifting back more towards casual gaming recently. The speedrunning drive seems to finally have been largely exhausted, and I do have a long casual backlog that I want to start tackling... picked up Legends Arceus and Forgotten Land over the past few months that I still have to 100%, and also STILL have to finish Twilight Princess and Lisa, which I do plan to stream in Calgary during evenings if at all possible (actually I'd ideally finish TP before I leave, but I doubt that's realistic). Guess I'll start Yakuza 0 after too. In regards to speedrunning Forgotten Land I really doubt I will tbh, the run just doesn't look interesting to me.

Can't really think of anything else. tl;dr I'll have more free time starting mid May, expect to see casual streams pretty much exclusively. im washed lol
