私は途方に暮れてしまう。さっきははしゃいでしまったけど、予想以上に絶望的な状況かもしれない。%K%P
I was at a loss. I was happy before, but our situation might be even more hopeless than I imagined.

なにか、手がかりになるようなものはないかどうか、自分のポケットの中を探ってみた。%K%P
I searched in my pocket for anything that might serve as a clue.

出てきたのはボイスレコーダー（ＶＲ）ぐらいだ。%K%P
All I found was a voice recorder (ＶＲ).

当然だろう。私の持ち物に、この小屋の場所の手がかりとなるものがあったら、逆に怖い。%K%P
I guess that was to be expected. After all, if something I'd been carrying had turned out to be a clue about this cabin, it'd just be scary.

再生リストを呼び出すとＤＡＴＡ１とＤＡＴＡ２だけしか入っていなかった。%K%P

しばらくそれをジッと見つめ、小さく首を振ってテーブルの上にゴトリと置いた。%K%P
While continuously staring at it, he shook his head slightly and laid it on the table.

最初、それは腕時計かと思った。%K%P
At first, I thought it was a wristwatch.

しかし時計にしては少し大きい。それにゴテゴテとした付属物がいろいろ付いている。%K%P

I've tried to remember the situation before the crash.

I don't think two hours passed from the time we took off from Haneda to the crash.

It was about one to one and a half hours... right?

黄泉木「飛行ルートから推測すれば、ここは東北の山の中って可能性が高い」%K%P
If I were to guess from the flight's course, I'd say there's a high chance that we're on a mountain in Tohoku.

Aomori, Akita, Iwate... most likely somewhere around there.

The air is thin, so I think we're pretty high up.

It'll probably take a while for our rescuers to arrive.

そう言ってから、黄泉木は私を安心させるためか少し笑った。%K%P
After saying that, Yomogi smiled as if to comfort me.

Though he still seemed partly asleep, he spoke with conviction as he rose.

ゆには唇の端を薄くほころばせた。%K%P
Yuni's thin lips curled into a smile.

メガネを外したその表情は、今まで以上に幼く見える。%K%P
His face without glasses was the most childish I'd ever seen it.

なのに遠い目をして、すべてを悟りきったように笑っている。%K%P
Even so, with a distant look in his eyes, he laughed as if he was one who understood everything.

その目付きは、なんだか普通じゃないように思えて……背筋がゾクリとした。%K%P
I thought his facial expression was strange somehow... my spine suddenly tingled.

ゆには答えず、フラフラと立ち上がった。%K%P
Yuni stood up unsteadily, without answering.

And then, something pulled at my hand.

I looked up and saw Yuni.

His finger pointed to beside the cabin's entrance.

外に出たわずかの間に、身体がすっかり凍えてしまった。震えた声しか出せない。%K%P
In the short time I had been outside, my body had become frozen through and through. It was impossible to keep the shivering out of my voice.

こびりついた雪を払うのも忘れて、私はストーブに駆け寄った。%K%P
Forgetting to wipe off the snow that clung to me, I rushed to the stove.

Never mind. It's nothing...

ゆには目をしょぼつかせて、私にすがりついてきた。視線が泳いでいる。%K%P
Yuni squinted and followed me. His eyes seemed to swim.

ゆに「ねえ、それよりメガネー。ぼくのメガネー」%K%P
Hey, before that, glasses. My glasses.

こころ「あ、ごめん」%K%P
Oh, sorry.

私はテーブルからメガネを持ってきて彼にかけてあげた。%K%P
I picked up the glasses from the table and returned them to him.

黛が起き出してきていた。%K%P
Mayuzumi had gotten up.

Yomogi explained to her about figuring out where we were.

黄泉木「わかったのは山の名前だけだ。僕はここに来たこともない」%K%P
All we know is the name of the mountain. I've never been here before.

黄泉木「下山ルートはわからない」%K%P
We don't know the route down.

黛は、ゆにの方に顎をしゃくった。%K%P
Mayuzumi pointed in Yuni's direction with her chin.

黛「そこのガキが、コンパス持ってるんでしょ！？」%K%P
That brat over there has a compass, right?!

黛「それを使えば……」%K%P
If we use that...

どうやら、さっきの私と黄泉木の話に、しっかりと聞き耳を立てていたらしい。%K%P
It seems the conversation between Yomogi and myself earlier had reached her ears all right.

だが黄泉木は首を振り、苦々しい様子で玄関の戸を睨んだ。%K%P
However, Yomogi shook his head and glared balefully at the doorway.

黄泉木「コンパスごときでどうにかなれば、苦労しないさ」%K%P
If we could do something just because we have a compass, we wouldn't be having any trouble.

黄泉木「この吹雪の中を歩き回るのは自殺行為だ」%K%P
Walking around in that blizzard would be suicide.

黄泉木「おとなしく救助を待つのが得策だ」%K%P
Waiting quietly to be rescued is the best plan.

黛「フン……」%K%P
Hmph...

黛は不機嫌そうに鼻を鳴らし、また２段ベッドの上段にのぼっていってしまった。%K%P
Displeased, Mayuzumi let out a snort, and again retreated to the top bunk.

ふて寝の再開、かな。%K%P
Continuing her nap, maybe.

その気持ちもわかるような気がした。%K%P
I kind of understood how she felt.

私達のいる山の名前がわかったところで、なんの解決にもならないのだから。%K%P
We now know the name of the mountain we're on, but that didn't lead to any sort of solution at all.

他になにかできることはないか、さらに考えてみた。%K%P
I continued to try to think of something else we could do.

だが、私が考えつくような程度のことは、もうほとんど黄泉木が試していた。%K%P
However, everything I thought of, Yomogi had already tried.

麓との連絡手段はないらしい。%K%P
It seems there was no method to establish contact with the base of the mountain.

幸い、小屋の地下倉庫には薪のストックがある程度は残っているようだ。%K%P
Fortunately, the cabin's basement still had a decent stock of firewood remaining.

火がおこせるのならば水はなんとかなる。雪を溶かせばいい。%K%P
If there's some fire remaining, then we're all right when it comes to water. We just have to melt some snow.

少量だが、食糧も置いてあった。%K%P
It wasn't a great amount, but there was a supply of food stored in there as well.

４人でも節約すれば４日は持ちこたえられる、という黄泉木の言葉に私は勇気づけられた。%K%P
If we ration it, with four people we can endure for four days, said Yomogi in an attempt to keep my courage up.

あとは、吹雪がやみ、救助隊がやって来るのを辛抱強く待つしかない。%K%P
After that, all we can do is wait patiently for the blizzard to stop and the rescue team to arrive.

While laughing, he picked up the cardboard box in the corner of the room.

３つほどある段ボールのひとつをのぞき込んでみる。%K%P
I peeked into one of the three cardboard boxes that were there.

Inside were a number of little packages, each smaller than a fist.

I took one into my hand and checked the expiration date. It seemed to be totally fine.

It seemed freeze-dried food could be preserved for up to ten years.

It seemed somewhat flimsy, but if all we'd be using it for was heating things, then it was just fine.

The bodies were discovered 1km east of the Mount Akakura shelter cabin.

遺体には雪崩に巻き込まれた際に受ける裂傷も多数確認されていることから、３人は墜落直後は生存していたものと考えられる。%K%N
It has been confirmed that the three bodies, which sustained a large number of lacerations in an avalanche days after the crash, are those of the survivors.

しかし、発見場所は下山ルートからは離れているため、遭難者の死亡当日の足取りについて、青森県警では調査を進めている。%K%N
