- Setup:
- --------------
- Recent development Info:
- -New Collison Based Sword and Shield Combat!
- -Half-Life: Alyx style item selector!
- -Dump out fairies from bottles with hand motions!
- -Turn on and off these features in the (Esc) Settings Menu
- -Map Ocarina Buttons to any input. (I prefer to map the c-buttons to left analog directions!)
- -Bring out Sword and Shield instantly by pressing both back grips.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- Installation
- ------------------------------------------------------------------
- It's recommended to put your install folder in the C: directory of your computer. Something like C:\Games\OoT VR. Or you might get an error message upon startup. To start the mod you need to have a rom of Ocarina of Time in the install folder. Preferably The 1.0 NTSC version or 1.2 NTSC versions of the game. Although I prefer version 1.0 so I can have the Fire Temple chant music and the red Ganondorf blood.
- VR CONTROL FEATURES
- -----------------------------------------------------
- Half-Life Alyx Style Item/Weapon Selection Feature
- -----------------------------------------------------
- This feature lets you select your items and weapons on and item wheel. The feature is found in: Press ESC to get to main settings/Go to VR Settings/VR inputs. When a weapon is out like the Hookshot or Bow the Left Trigger will fire it by default or you can assign a c-button to them.
- Controls/Instructions:
- Hold the selector input (right stick click by default) and a compass of your equipped items appears at your hand. Flick toward one
- and release to take it. Up = sword and shield, left/right/down = your three C items, release without moving = empty hands. Haptic tick on every highlight.
- Trigger uses whatever you're holding — (optional) this replaces C buttons entirely. Pull out the bow with the selector and you fire it with the trigger of the hand it's in; squeeze to draw, release to loose. Pull out a Deku stick and it's the other trigger.
- Bombs, bottles, boomerang aim-and-throw, magic. the trigger is literally pressing that item's own button for you. Buttons can
- no longer pull items out or draw the sword; that's the selector's job now.
- -------------------------------------
- Physical VR Sword and Shield Combat
- -------------------------------------
- This is OFF by default (Press ESC to get to the main menu). Turn it on in VR Settings / Physical Combat (new sidebar section).
- Your sword is now an actual object. Swings do damage by real hand speed instead of triggering B-button attack animations, and the blade physically cannot pass through enemies, walls or the floor. The shield blocks by geometry. Enemies get shoved and pressed by the sword. It's the biggest change the mod has had and it's still settling, so the old button combat is still there.
- VR Shield Controls:
- To use the Hylian Shield turn Physical Combat on and you just hold up the shield to block. Like in real life. There are also some shield settings you can turn up that widen the block radius.
- VR Shield Settings:
- You might notice that when you hold up your shield to block, enemy attacks get through most of the time (Especially when fighting Stalfos enemies). Well, we can fix this. Press ESC to get to settings. Go to Physical Combat and make sure Physical Combat is on. Next, go all the way down to the 'Shield' sliders. Now we need to turn the sliders up all the way for "Shield Width Top" and "Shield Width Bottom". With the sliders up all the way the shield will cover the width of the screen so practically no enemy attacks will get through now.
- If you chose to play with Physical VR Sword Combat OFF:
- You will need to map your controls like you are playing the normal game. You can still swing the sword but in order to register a hit you will have to hold down 'A' right as your sword comes in contact with the enemy. You will also need to hold down the 'block' button to use your shield.
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Holding items above your Head (Bombs, Rocks, Cuccos, Chest Items, Ruto etc.)
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- You might notice when you hold various items and objects above your head like: Bombs, Rocks, Cuccos, Chest Items, Ruto etc. they are right in your face and block your view. Well, we can fix that. Just use your VR arms and rise the items up above your head, like in real life!
- ----------------------------
- Play in Third Person VR
- ----------------------------
- If you don't want to play in first person you can play in third person VR as well. Press ESC, go to VR Settings/General and Turn third person on.
- SETTINGS
- ----------------
- Enable VR Mode
- ----------------
- The first thing you need to do is Enable VR since it is OFF by default. Press ESC, go to VR Settings/General and Turn VR on.
- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- How to Open the Ship of Harkinian Custom Menu: Settings, VR controller input, Quality of Life, HUD options, Cheats, etc:
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Like I mentioned above. Start the game and lift up your VR helmet slightly and while looking at your computer and the game window, click on the VR window and press escape. Adjust all the settings as you see fit.
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- How to fix Pre-rendered Backgrounds and make them 3D (Using the Djipi 3DS Experience MOD and Reloaded HD Texture Pack)
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- **Important**:
- -Without this fix the outdoor and indoor areas with pre-rendered backgrounds like Castle Town, will cover up your view and you won't be able to see.
- -You can't use the 'full' Reloaded HD Texture pack and the 'full' Djipi 3DS pack together; only partially. You can only mix the 3D backgrounds from the Djipi pack with the Reloaded HD Texture Pack (I will explain this in detail and show you what to use below). If you use both full packs together, the textures will overlap and create textures that look wrong. For example, like eyes that are too big on the Kokiri.
- ============================================================================
- Authentic OoT VS 3DS OoT (Choose what Aesthetic you want!) **Required**
- ============================================================================
- How to fix and enable 3D backgrounds:
- (Required) To fix the pre-rendered backgrounds you will need a mod called Djipi 3DS Experience (Link below). Unzip the mod files and drag them into the mod folder within your main installation folder. Once it's in the folder start the game, press escape, and go to Enhancements/Graphics and turn off "Disable 2D Pre-rendered Backgrounds" and "Disable Fixed Camera" then restart the game!!! Next time you are in game, the 3D backgrounds will take effect, and those annoying pre-rendered backgrounds will be removed!
- But I want the game to look like the Original just in HD:
- I've got you covered! If you want a more authentic OoT aesthetic you can use the Reloaded HD Texture Pack (See "How to use HD Texture Pack" below) and only the 3D backgrounds from Djipi 3ds experience (required). Only put these items from the Djipi 3DS Experience pack in the mods folder:
- Djipi's 3DE - 26 Background 3DS.otr
- Djipi's 3DE - 27 Background Textures.otr
- Along with OoT_Reloaded_v11.0.0_4K.o2r HD Texture pack. If you don't want the authentic OoT look in HD and want the 3DS visuals instead, don't use the Reloaded Texture pack and just keep all of Djipi 3DS Experience mod files in the mod folder as is.
- Get the Djipi 3ds Experience MOD here:
- ---------------------------
- How to use HD Texture Pack
- ---------------------------
- Get it here (get the 4K OTR or HD OTR versions):
- Installation:
- -Extract the pack and drop the texture pack file in the mods folder.
- -Launch the game: Start Ship of Harkinian with your usual executable.
- -Open settings: Press ESC on your keyboard.
- -Turn on assets: Navigate to Enhancements > Graphics / Mods, and check the box to Use alternate assets.
- -Toggle on/off: Press the Tab key during gameplay to quickly switch the custom textures on or off.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Recommended Settings (Smooth Turning, Snap Turning, Lock-on, Body on or off etc.)
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- (Press ESC to get to main menu)
- -Enhancements/Graphics/Mods: enable "Disable 2D Pre-Rendered Scenes" and "Disable Fixed Camera" (See "How to fix Pre-rendered Backgrounds and make them 3D" above)
- -VR Settings/Gameplay: enable "Hide Link's Body"
- -VR Settings/Comfort and Movement. Turn on Legaiaflame's Lock On. This will let you lock on and circle enemies.
- -VR Settings/Comfort and Movement. Turn on Turning Style: Smooth. This will let you turn the camera fast rather than in segments.
- -Enhancements/Cheats and under items turn on 'Fireproof Deku Shield'. The Hylian Shield doesn't function correctly with the new motion controls like the Deku Shield does, (Unless the dev fixes it), since it's always on your back when you block. So, it's best to always use the Deku Shield and ensure it never burns up!
- ---------------------
- Shield Settings
- ---------------------
- You might notice that when you hold up your shield to block, enemy attacks get through most of the time (Especially when fighting Stalfos enemies).
- -------------------------------------------
- How to Map VR Controller Button Config
- -------------------------------------------
- To map the button config on your VR controllers, you will have to go to the Ship of Harkinian custom menu screen. Start the game and lift up your VR helmet slightly and while looking at your computer and the game window, click on the VR window and press escape. Then go to VR settings to map whatever buttons you want.
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Playing Ocarina (I prefer to map the c-buttons to left analog directions.)
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Press ESC to get to the menu. Go to VR Settings/VR Inputs. Click the 'Ocarina' tab at the top. I preferer to map the C-Buttons to the Left analog directions and 'A' to whatever button you like.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- How to Hide all HUD Elements and or (Have it Floating or Attached to your Hand)
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Two choices: Have the HUD floating in front of you or attached to your hand. Pres ESC, go to VR Settings/HUD & Menus/HUD Attachment to choose your preferred style.
- Floating:
- I prefer this method. Having the HUD in front of me but hiding almost all HUD elements except Hearts. To hide the HUD in Ship of Harkinian (SoH) for Ocarina of Time, open the in-game Enhancements menu. Go to Cosmetics Editor > HUD Placement. Turn off the specific HUD elements, or simply toggle the master HUD off/on switch.
- Attached (Left Hand/Right Hand):
- If you want the HUD attached to your Left or Right Hand like I mentioned above, press ESC, go to Settings/HUD & Menus/HUD Attachment to choose which hand you want. Just Note: All in-game text from NPC's and Cutscenes will be attached to your hand as well.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Equip Iron/Hover Boots as an Item (Warning could cause freezing!)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Press ESC to get to the Settings Menu. Go to Enhancements/Items and then check-off 'Assignable Shields, Tunics and Boots'. Press start and set the boots to whatever button you want. Then you can use the Alyx item selector to equip them. To unequip them, open up the Alex item wheel and select them again to remove them.
- Warning! Could cause freezing!
- Assignable Shields, Tunics and Boots' might be causing the game to freeze when opening up chests and getting keys. Happened to me in the Shadow Temple. The Water Temple had no issues.
- ISSUES
- ---------------------
- VR Won't Enable
- ----------------------
- For Quest users, be sure to use virtual desktop with steamvr as the default openxr runtime (set on both steam and VD) and make sure to disable any meta compatibility/addons.
- ----------------------------------------------------------
- Can't see HUD (Will Potentially be Fixed in Next Update)
- ----------------------------------------------------------
- Lots of Quest and Index users have been reporting not being able to see the HUD. You can try attaching the HUD to your hand as mentioned above but this might not work. A fix was discovered but not implemented yet as it needs testing from the dev before he integrates it into the next update. Please be patient. Hopefully we get this fixed soon!
- Possible fix for Quest users: (Special Thanks to Discord user Exhale):
- THE FIX: It is visible in both Virtual Desktop and the native Meta (Oculus) Link app for me.
- ---------------------------------------------
- Game World is Upside Down (Quest 3 Users)
- ---------------------------------------------
- If your game is rendering upside down then there is a fix (Special thanks to Discord user FreelanceWitch).
- "I switched to using Steam Link in the quest apps and not needing to have meta horizon link open on my pc at all
- by default it uses wifi link but I'm following this tutorial right now for USB link"
- -----------------------------
- Freezing (Potential Causes)
- ------------------------------
- Mainly if you are playing as Adult Link and have 'Assignable Shields, Tunics and Boots' turned on, this might be causing the game to freeze when opening up chests and getting keys. Happened to me in the Shadow Temple. The Water Temple had no issues.
- Press ESC to get to the Settings Menu. Go to Enhancements/Items and make sure 'Assignable Shields, Tunics and Boots'. is turned off.
- ---------------------------
- Shield: Not Blocking Fix
- ---------------------------
- You might notice that when you hold up your shield to block, enemy attacks get through most of the time (Especially when fighting Stalfos enemies).
- ------------------------------------------------------
- Shield: (Child Link) Can't see or use Hylian Shield
- ------------------------------------------------------
- Once you buy or find a Hylian Shield you might notice you can't use it with the new Physical Combat controls. With Physical Combat off you can only block but not see it in your hands. This is because in the normal game when you block, Child Link ducks down and the shield covers his entire body. So, holding it normally hasn't been implemented in VR yet.
- As an alternative, just keep using the Deku Shield. And go to the Esc Menu/Enhancements/Cheats and under items turn on 'Fireproof Deku Shield'. This way you can keep using the Deku Shield and ensure it never burns up!
- -----------------------------------------
- Can't Climb Walls/Ledges (Workaround)
- -----------------------------------------
- You might notice sometimes when you go up to climb a wall you will clip through it. This is a known issue. The only workaround is to come at the wall from another direction. Maybe a little bit farther to the left or right. Just keep bumping into the wall until you grab it. Or you can press ESC, go into the settings and turn on the Levitate cheat as a last resort.
- -----------------------------------------------------------
- Child Link: Getting Stuck in Crawl Tunnels (Workaround)
- -----------------------------------------------------------
- While playing as Child Link, you might occasionally get stuck in a crawl tunnel. Don't rest the game, just back up or back up and try to turn around and go back out the way you came in. Usually, your second time going back through will work.
- ------------------------------------------------
- Boomerang Aiming Issue: (Workaround)
- ------------------------------------------------
- Unlike the Slingshot, aiming the Boomerang with your VR hand does not work (Still in development). For a workaround, you can hold the Lock-on button and proceed to strafe left or right, then throw when you are at the position you want. And just lock-on to and throw like normal, no aiming. Or, if you hold the Boomerang button while standing still, you can then use the right analog to turn your invisible arms left, right, up and down (down is up and up is down) to change the flight position.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Magic Ping Pong Pointers (Phantom Ganon and Ganondorf Battles Tips)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- Pointers for hitting the magic ball back and forth for Phantom Ganon (Forest Temple Boss) and the final battle Ganondorf Boss (Ganon's Castle). Concerning hitting the magic ball back and forth, the reason why the magic sometimes disperses or dissipates when you hit it is, because it is hitting your shield. So just simply move the shield out of the way. Move it more to your left out of view, while you hit the magic back and forth with the sword.
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
- (Forest Temple): How to Solve the Poe Block Puzzle in VR
- --------------------------------------------------------------------
- In first-person VR, you won't be able to see the blocks. So, Press escape to go into the Ship of Harkinian Menu. Go to VR settings. Either turn off VR completely and play without VR with a normal PC controller, to complete the block puzzle or turn on the 3rd person mode, while still in VR (Note: sometimes the setting doesn't work).
- ------------------------------------------
- How to do the Spin Attack (Workaround)
- ------------------------------------------
- Currently there is no motion action to do the Spin Attack when using Physical Combat. And you will need this for hitting switches behind gates and the final battle with Ganondorf. So, in order to do it, press ESC to get to the settings menu, go to VR Settings/Physical Combat and turn off 'Physical Combat'. This will revert the sword swing and Spin Attack back to a button press on the right VR controller. To do the Spin attack hold the button down until the magic charges and then let go. If you can't do it, map the correct button in the controller config settings. Even after all that, if you still can't do the Spin Attack, you will have to go see the Great Fairy on top of Death Mountain.
- ----------------------------------------------------------
- (Water Temple/Ganon's Castle): Gate Switches (Workaround)
- ----------------------------------------------------------
- In the Water Temple or Ganon's Castle you will find Switches behind Gates. The only way to activate these is to do the Spin Attack near them.
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- (Water Temple): Dark Link Fight Not Possible: Takes Control of the Player (Workaround)
- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- When you get to the Dark Link Fight in the Water Temple you won't be able to fight him. Dark Link will take control of your every movement! How's that for possession LoL! So, to bypass this until the dev fixes it, you are going to have to give yourself the Longshot and one small key (The rest you can find in the temple). Press ESC/Dev Tools/Save Editor. Go to Inventory and select the Hookshot icon. You can then select the Longshot to the right. Next, move over to the 'Quest Status' tab and at the bottom under the Boss Key Icon, you will see the small key icon. Click into the field and give yourself one Small Key. When you go back to the game, they will both be in your inventory. Now you can skip Dark Link and complete the rest of the Water Temple.
- Some players have managed to backup and lure Dark Link into a corner and then attack, but it's not that feasible. Feel free to try your luck until we get a fix or skip it with the method explained above.
- Alternative: You can try turning VR off or playing this part in 3rd person VR, but I haven't tested this.
- ------------------------------------------------------------
- (Water Temple): Can't Climb up Hookshot ledges (Workaround)
- ------------------------------------------------------------
- While climbing Ledges seems to be a main issue in the mod as it is, it's especially hard to climb up a couple Hookshot ledges in the Water Temple. It will take many tries but the only way I got it to work some of the time is to stand as far away from the Hookshot point as possible and then hook yourself up to the target/ledge. As you're flying up you can also try holding left or right to see if it makes a difference.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- (Spirit Temple): Twinrova Boss Shield not Working with Physical Combat ON (Workaround)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- With Physical Combat ON you cannot deflect the ice and fire magic when blocking with the shield to damage the witches. So, in order to complete this first phase of the fight you will have to press ESC, go into the settings menu and turn Physical Combat OFF. It also helps to go to the VR Settings/Comfort and Movement, and if you haven't already, turn on Legaiaflame's Lock On. This makes it easier to block and deflect the magic most of the time. I found it was harder with lock-on turned off.
- However, when they combine in the second phase you can turn Physical Combat back ON, since holding up the shield in this last phase of the fight works for absorbing the magic and directing it back. So, until we get a fix we will have to settle for this method.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- (Ganon's Castle): Fire Room Can't Throw Pillar Glitch (Workaround)
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------
- In the fire room where you have to collect the Silver Rupees. You will have to use the Golden Guantlets to throw the black pillar to make a bridge to get the final silver rupee. Problem is even after you throw the pilar, there is a glitch where it says in place.
- Workaround:
- Press ESC, go to VR Settings/General and Turn VR off. You can then throw the pillar in place like normal in flatscreen mode.
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
- (Ganon's Castle): Stopping Ganondorf's 4-Point Magic Charge
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
- Near the end of the first Ganondorf fight he will do a 4-point magic charge. You can stop this by hitting him directly with a Light Arrow. So, no need to do the spin attack or turn off Physical Combat. You can also just run away from it, and he will throw a normal magic ball shortly afterwards.
