  1. ====N1 Grand Prix FAQ====
  2. Updated 8/17/2018
  3.
  4. This FAQ is designed to answer some of the most common questions we see on the N1 Grand Prix, so let's jump right in.
  5.
  6.
  7. Q: What do you use to play BN6 Online?
  8. A: We use VBA Link, a specialized network-enabled version, and Hamachi.
  9.
  10. Q: Hey guys, do you use MyBOY!?
  11. A: While we don't discourage trying to find people to netbattle with via mobile, bear in mind that the N1 Grand Prix community at-large strictly uses VBA Link and Hamachi and finding someone to netbattle with on Android will likely prove difficult (but not impossible!).
  12.
  13. Q: Have you tried Parsec/NVidia Shadowplay for other MMBN titles?
  14. A: Using services like NVidia Shadowplay and Parsec is possible, but unexplored largely at this time due to its reliance on a stable connection for both parties. Additionally, to netbattle, you'd effectively have to have two instances of MGBA or VBA Link, dual monitors, and turn your other monitor off to prevent screencheating. We are currently awaiting mGBA's network capabilities to do this more reliably.
  15.
  16. Q: Have you tried [Evolve/ZeroTier One/A Custom hosted VPN/Other VPN Provider]?
  17. A: Yes. We've tried the whole gauntlet. EVOLVE unfortunately is incredibly unstable with very poor networking and imposed latency on VPN Connections (Simplified, it makes connections slow even in perfect enviornments) and ZeroTier One requires nothing short of an engineering degree to use. You can't remove it completely as it installs a service that starts with your machine, effectively leaving a wide open backdoor to your computer, and does not uninstall that service when ZTO is uninstalled. It's also incredibly user unfriendly and our current setups and requirements to get started are complex enough as it is. A custom hosted VPN poses a security risk as a single entity or person is essentially entrusted with access to participant's machines and - by association - their networks.
  18.
  19. TL;DR: Hamachi is the most secure and stable provider we've been able to use globally and we are not inclined to shift to another VPN Service.
  20.
  21. Q: How do you play BN6 Online?
  22. A: Join the N1 Grand Prix Discord server and do the !welcome command. We use VBA Link, a specially modified version of VBA, and Hamachi.
  23.
  24. Q: Can you play other BN games online?
  25. A: Using an Android Emulator, NOX, and a paid version of the emulator MyBoy!, legacy PVP is possible. Check the pins in #legacy-pvp.
  26.
  27. Q: Is anyone up to play BN6 or EXE6?
  28. A: Our Discord Bot, ColonelBot, has a feature that allows you to mark yourself as Available to Battle in the user list. Using !available/atb to mark yourself available or !unavailable/!unav to remove yourself will let the community know you're up for a match. You can ping @Available to Battle as well.
  29.
  30. Q: What's the best folder/NaviCust Setup/ModCard Set?
  31. A: There is no "best folder." Do not trust the old "Renowned Folder FAQs" on GameFAQs, they're out of date and horribly maintained. You can do !victors in chat to get the previous event winners' decklists, but we heavily encourage you to dig through the chip library and create a playstyle that fits to you and is versatile.
