  1. DSP Timeline of events:
  2.
  3. Pre-July 1998, possibly going as far as SF2’s original release (Feb. 1991):
  4. Unknown.
  5.
  6. FGC Saga begins here
  7. 1998:
  8. July 8th: Phil’s 1st known internet post. Earliest known evidence of him posting online https://groups.google.com/forum/#!search/whoamoses%7Csort:relevance/alt.games.sf2/kWIoFO7ZeP8/WNokBt_3jokJ (there might be earlier posts than this)
  9.
  10. 1999:
  11. January 22nd: Phil apologizes for insulting Valle during that same month. First known incident of him shit talking a respected individual (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/alt.games.sf2/Sc134PdD3ag) (as well as a FGC member)
  12.
  13. 2000:
  14. September 1st: DSP attends Fairfield University’s Dolan School of Business. His major course of study was finance. (The degree title being bachelor of science) (https://kiwifarms.net/threads/darksydephil-theycallmedsp-phil-burnell.975/page-1507#post-2559976)
  15.
  16. Late 2001: earliest known pictures of DSP are taken, possibly around this time (NEEDS TO BE CHECKED) he signs up on SRK forums, and would wind up starting up fights in the future with several FGC players including but not limited to Justin Wong, Jaha, among others. He would also consistenly blame programmers for glitches in games (like the CVS2 random select bug) as well as blame anyone but himself for his problems, (For example, despite winning a minor SSF2T tourney in 2002, he would end up criticizing the controls of the arcade machine. Notable because not only did he win, he was the only one to bitch about the controls) exhibiting traits that would show up again in later years, even to this very day.
  17.
  18. 2002:
  19. August: EVO 2002 happens. DSP participates in it’s SSF2T and MVC2 tournaments but ends up empty handed. After shittalking Jaha so much on SRK, Jaha wanted to beat the crap out of Phil at EVO. To the surprise of no one, Phil ran away and cried.
  20.
  21. 2003:
  22. 1st half of July (or possibly earlier): Top-Haters is launched, DSP’s 1st website ever. (https://web.archive.org/web/20041009164646fw_/http://www.top-haters.com:80/main.htm) At this point, the forums hadn’t been launched yet.
  23. Top-Haters Saga begins
  24.
  25. July 13th: The forums of Top-Haters are launched. This is DSP’s first website forum, and while different from future forums he made (namely, he didn’t end up banning everyone who disagreed with him) it still showcases him shittalking at least 1 FGC member (Ricky Ortiz) , dissing on GG games, as well as shitting on people he thought loved Japan. He would also host his webcomic called Broken Joystick. This would also mark the very first time he ever accepted cash donations, a trait that would utterly consume him by 2015.
  26. September: Phil would try his hand at making a big tournament to rival EVO, called Impact. Phil however, would end up failing in this endeavor, seemingly out of lack of interest from the community. It’s unknown if the proposed Impact 2004 tournament actually happened as no evidence of it having ever happened exists. Or any future Impact tourneys for that matter. Whatever the case, while it’s not 100% clear if Phil thought up of Impact on his own, it is known that he was involved in the creation of it.
  27.
  28. October 26th: last known Phil posts, mostly him bitching about not being able to get some combo footage from a few FGC members.
  29.
  30. December 7th: By this point, the forums were dead as this was the date for the final posts from users prior to 2010. (New members would show up in 2010 and later, but were fans of DSP who seemingly sought this out of curiosity.) Phil would quietly abandon the forums before this point and return to the SRK forums (Most likely by November 2003)
  31.
  32. 2004:
  33. Last known Broken Joystick strips are released. Phil reacted to negative criticism by saying people complained about the formula used being the same as Penny Arcade, never once realizing the flaw with his comics that people were pointing out are that the jokes he made were simply not funny. He ended up stopping these webcomics in response to the criticism and/or lack of inspiration or motivation to work on them.
  34.
  35. April 24th : Phil abandoned the main Top-Haters site, leaving his final editorial there.
  36. TOP-HATERS SAGA ENDS HERE
  37.
  38. May 1st, he finished his attendance at Fairfield University, and he would receive his degree on May 23rd, 2004. (Academic Honors: Honors Program)
  39.
  40. 2005: One of the most notorious moments in DSPistory happened in this year:
  41.
  42. August: Evo 2005 took place. Phil signed up for the SSF2T tourney: a controversial tournament due to its usage of the PS1 port of SSF2T, a port which suffered from some porting inaccuracies as well as some bugs, ultimately being decried by a good chunk of top SSF2T players. Phil would end up getting credit card debt just to go to this tournament held in Las Vegas.
  43. He wound up placing 4th with Claw (known as Vega in USA and Balrog in Japan), proclaiming he was the best USA Super Turbo player ever (the top 3 places were occupied by Japanese players)
  44. Phil ended up getting mocked relentlessly on SRK for his continued bragging of his 4th place win. To further add insult to injury, he was challenged shortly afterwards the tournament ended by Valle, Watson and others. He wound end up losing to all of them, excusing his losses as him being tired from having participated in the tournament.
  45. The importance of this moment to Phil is extremely high: even TODAY he continues to brag he was a Pro level SF2 player, continuously bringing up this win as proof of it (along with 2 other wins that’ll be discussed below) To Phil, this was one of the greatest moments of his life.
  46.
  47. 2006: Phil would participate in the HSF2 Evo East 2006 tournament, on August 2006.
  48. To the surprise of everyone, Phil ended up winning this tournament, beating Justin Wong’s ST Ryu, using ST Boxer (M. Bison in Japan/Balrog in USA)
  49. Funnily enough, this might arguably be a far more genuine and legit win in comparison to his 2005 win, but he keeps bringing up the EVO 2005 win first. (Most likely, because that was an international tournament, which equals higher levels of opposition, not to mention, players who are far more skilled than what one would find in a regional only tournament)
  50. Supposedly, he shout out “I’M COMING FOR DAIGO NEXT!” after beating Wong. DSP and Daigo have never fought in a match as of this date.
  51. He participated in the international Evo 2006 HSF2 tourney, but (by his own admission) would end up losing to Tokido in a mirror CE Dictator match. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6y6L9N_9qoY)
  52.
  53. 2007: His last known tournament win. He participated on the Evo East 2007 SSF2T tournament, beating out Seth Killian with Dee Jay.
  54. As stated before, this win, along with this 2006 win and in particular, his 2005 4th place win are extremely important moments for Phil. He would use this as proof he was a pro SF2 player.
  55. It’s unknown if Phil participated in the international SSF2T EVO 2007 tournament.
  56. He opened up his first youtube channel darksydephil on March 3rd.
  57. Youtube Saga begins here
  58.
  59. 2008:
  60. June 23rd: he uploaded the very first video to his YT channel (Midwest moment 4 – Day 1 Setup) He would start playing other games outside of SF and putting these playthroughs up to youtube by October 2008 (earliest non SF game to be posted was SW TFU on Oct. 2)
  61. He ended up playing whatever new release was out, quickly becoming known as one of the earliest Youtube Let’s players, thanks to spamming the shit out of Youtube with multiple videos each day.
  62. He participated in at least 1 SSF2T HD Remix tournament, eliminating J. Wong with Akuma on the NEC9 Single Eliminatory. (To DSP’s defense, HDR Akuma wasn’t known to be broken at first. Damdai, a FGC player would prove everyone wrong on this regard)
  63. Hilariously, he held up a SF4 tournament, getting his ass DQ’d for doing so and ended up raging hard.
  64.
  65. 2009: He continued to make playthroughs on youtube, and moved out of his parents’ house to a condo in Connecticut.
  66.
  67. 2010: Arguably the peak of Phil’s career as a Youtuber.
  68.
  69. April 15th: He would wind up creating another account, DSPGaming (his current account) due to a strike he received in his old account.
  70. DSP started work on a webseries called Project 7. At this point, only a short prologue was done, and he wouldn’t return to the series until 2012.
  71.
  72. September 30th: Phil was fired from his job (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMfHyyIfq4o) (helicopter support company, a job that many suspect his father recommended him for)
  73.
  74. October 2nd: DSP decides to become a full time youtuber, a decision that would doom him in the following years. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jMmzSFunHg)
  75.
  76. October 17th: Thekingofhate.com goes live (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x37xT0I-sc)
  77.
  78. December 11th: DSP gets his Google Adsense account suspended, as a result, he moves to blip.tv (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5vfJvc6zDI)
  79.
  80. Blip.tv Saga starts here
  81. Arguably his most well known playthrough (in terms of positive reception, not negative) happened in this year: Heavy Rain.
  82.
  83. 2011:
  84. January 12th: DSP got banned from blip.tv for his controversial racist jokes during his Dead Space 2 demo playthrough, where he joked that the necromorphs were Jews and that he/Isaac was the last Nazi. Predictably, he bitched about this, uploading a vlog on this day and on the 16th and 19th of January.
  85. Blip.tv saga ends here
  86.
  87. January 28th: DSP got partnered with Machinima. Reportedly, he was making 6 figures per month (Approx. 120K dollars) during this year. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMH9q91C5A0)
  88.
  89. March: Phil attended his last two tournaments: Winter Brawl 5 and Final Round 14.
  90. Apart from a few incidents (such as mocking the victims of Japan’s tsunami, as well as the commentator incident in Winter Brawl) Nothing much happened of note.
  91. He signed up for MVC3 in Winter Brawl, and for SSF2T in Final Round. He ended up losing both.
  92. Phil would never participate in another tournament again (and seemingly, the SRK forums), bringing an end to the FGC saga.
  93. FGC SAGA ENDS HERE
  94.
  95. 2012: One of Phil’s most infamous years, the events of this year would end up being the catalyst for the TIHYDP saga, and thus, Phil as the lolcow we know today.
  96.
  97. February 14th: DSP would announce to the world that PandaLee was his GF. His fanbase ended up despising PandaLee during this time, mostly because (at this point) PandaLee proved to be an incredibly annoying immature brat for ANY coop playthrough that involved her.
  98. Pandalee Saga begins here
  99.
  100. Remainder of 2012: Phil wound up doing the most notorious of his playthroughs ever: Black Mesa, Spider-Man 2000, GTA 3D trilogy, and of course, his infamous MGS2 and MGS3 playthroughs.
  101. (NEED DATES FOR THESE)
  102. It’s worth pointing out these playthroughs as they were heavily criticized by his fanbase.
  103. DSP’s response was to outright ignore and ban his critics, claiming he got positive feedback from at least his MGS2 playthrough, not bothering to make any improvements whatsoever.
  104.
  105. His fanbase also complained to Phil about his then current method of recording (Just using a camera to film the TV), wanting him to switch to a capture card. He would, again, ignore them but wound up yielding to them in the following year.
  106. Finally, while DSP always had detractors, this is the year they heavily increased in number (several of them were ex dsp fans, most notably, EvilAJ) thanks to these key reasons. Outside of his playthroughs and Pandalee shit, he would finally return to the Project 7 series, but unfortunately, it was short lived: DSP would end up (with the help from Respect the Pact and his friends) releasing 4 episodes before calling it quits.
  107.
  108. 2013: This is the year DSP was exposed by the internet, ultimately becoming one of internet’s most infamous lolcows of all time.
  109. February 17th: a former DSP fan known as EvilAJ would end up releasing the very first TIHYDP video ever: MGS2. The video went viral, garnering (as of this date) well over half a million views. From this point on, detractors/trolls would become a major part of Phil’s life.
  110.
  111. This is how you DON’T play Saga begins here
  112.
  113. March 2nd: DSP would FINALLY switch over to using a capture card. Otherwise, there was no noticeable change in gameplay and commentary quality. He also started streaming on Twitch at this time, streaming the end of Bully. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlY2Uh07gVA) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dJvVbAEi3g)
  114.
  115. Twitch Saga begins here
  116.
  117. April 7th:It would see the release of the second TIHYDP video ever: MGS3, done again, by EvilAJ. This is by far the most well known of all the TIHYDP montages, and widely agreed to be one of Phil’s worst playthroughs ever (if not, the absolute worst) Much like the MGS2 video, it went viral, becoming the most watched TIHYDP ever (as of this date, it has well over a million views)
  118. The rest of 2013 would feature many more TIHYDPs, this time, coming from several other users. TIHYDP would end up being a major thorn in Phil’s side: to this very day, he has to explain that these are “hate filled montages” and that detractors are “mentally ill sociopaths” (Like CWC with the ED page) while banning any talk of TIHYDPs and detractors on his stream chat and youtube comments.
  119. 2013 would also see some other notable events, such as DSP’s response to detractors (including claiming that EvilAJ was sick in the head), the Tobuscus drama, and PandaLee acting like a dick to Kingdom Hearts fans, leading Phil to banning the people who criticized her for being a troll in the infamous Kingdom Hearts 1 playthrough. The decline in viewership would also begin in this year, (shortly after the first TIHYDP came out) specifically March 2013.
  120.
  121. 2014: A fan would donate to Phil a PC he made himself…only for Phil to bitch about it as it couldn’t game and stream at 1080p at the same time.
  122.
  123. April 3rd: Sons of Kojima is formed.
  124. Sons of Kojima Saga begins here
  125. He would end up moving to Renton, an extremely unwise move given his declining finances.
  126. On November 2014, a Twitch admin would tell Phil to lower his stream bitrate, as it was unusually high for Twitch standards. Phil overreacted to this, and ultimately, Pandalee would shut the channel down.
  127. Twitch Saga ends temporarily.
  128.
  129. 2015: The Patreon Saga begins.
  130. Phil at some point in the year would READ HIS PRIVATE PMs with Rambo, thus leading to Rambo and Howard cutting off ties with DSP and uploading an audio file exposing DSP.
  131. He would also scam his fans by promising a reboot of Project 7, which ultimately never happened. First notable Patreon scam from Phil.
  132.
  133. June 24th : DSP was swatted during a livestream of Batman Arkham Knight. No one was injured in the incident. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9_j4HlPTm8)
  134.
  135. June 26th: Phil got DDoSed. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJBI4iTTHqk)
  136.
  137. August 17th: DSP would receive copyright strikes because of his illegal monetization of fanart provided by Jackie Chin (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7QQmjyy6jE)
  138.
  139. August 19th: Phil would receive yet again some more copyright strikes (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6JTbEQmbE8), this time thanks to the SoK (refer to the Fred Fuchs thread on Kiwi Farms for the leak. The member involved was BeAwesomeOne)
  140. Thanks to these copyright strikes, he was forced to remove dozens of videos off his channel as well as private his Nintendo 3DS playthroughs causing him to lose a good amount of ad revenue.
  141.
  142. October 9th: Copyright strikes again (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bEEQKhjphw) this ended up taking away his ability to stream for a short while.
  143.
  144. 2016:
  145.
  146. January: Phil creates another account, KOGaming, uploading edited reviews there.
  147. May 1st: The infamous “fappening” video. Phil didn’t realize, prior to streaming the Nioh alpha that the camera was turned on, leading into a session of him jerking off live. It’s one of DSP’s most infamous moments in his entire life.
  148.
  149. May 17th: His Homefront 2 review goes viral, attaining a million views. Worth noting he never finished Homefront 2.
  150.
  151. August 1st: The scandalous Persona 3 ragequit, notable for being the 2nd time he’s scammed his fans, and the first time he has ever ragequitted a patreon paid playthrough.
  152.
  153. November 2nd : return to Twitch, after years of bitching about twitch, he ended up returning to the site.
  154. Twitch Saga starts again.
  155.
  156. 2017:
  157.
  158. January: he would accept fan edited versions of TIHYDPs to be submitted to KOGaming. (called the KOCC program, short for KO Community Creation. No, this is not a joke) Ultimately it wound end up being rather unpopular and died off quickly.
  159.
  160. March 2nd: DSP reveals he was laid off from Machinima
  161.
  162. April: Phil proposes to Leanna and she accepts, however, they would not end up marrying.
  163.
  164. Early May: Leanna has a severe panic attack. Phil, in one of most heinous moments, would PUBLICALLY DESCRIBE WHAT HAPPENED, not giving a damn about his then fiancee’s privacy.
  165.
  166. Mid May, possibly earlier: As a result, or possibly before the attack, PandaLee would end up dumping DSP.
  167.
  168. July: Phil would get his ass fucked with copyright strikes for his Persona 5 playthrough, leading to him quitting it.
  169. He would later receive ANOTHER copyright strike, this time from Rockstar Games. He was able to take the copyright strikes down, but the sheer overreaction from DSP is still one of the funniest moments of this year.
  170.
  171. August 19th: Phil would end up revealing that WhoaMoses was his old AOL account. Subsequent digging around for this account name would spring up his Punish3r account from his FGC days, thus subsequently leading into an info dump and the discovery of his Top-Haters site, more of his FGC antics and his Broken Joystick webcomics.
  172.
  173. August 21st: Phil would end up hacked and doxxed by kiwi connecticuckoldry, leading to him posting a few of Phil’s bills, internet info, his dox, etc.
  174.
  175. Phil curiously would end up sweeping under the rug these major events rather than exploiting them for their worth.
  176. September 8th: The SoK would disband in response to the SoK leaks from late July and the month of August. Fred would be ousted from his position, and it ultimately proved to be a cautionary tale: what happens when you take making fun of a gout riddled manchild too seriously.
  177.
  178. Sons of Kojima Saga ends here
  179. The leaks not only revealed the SoK were behind one of the 2015 copyright strikes, but also proved Phil right as to the nature of his detractors, that of mentally ill sociopathic stalkers.
  180. Super Mario Sunshine controversy goes here
  181. Enigmatic vlog goes here.
  182.
