- ## Bikeshare
- - New Haven has a bikeshare called Bike New Haven
- - You have to have an Android/iOS phone to use it, as of 7/2019
- - Bikes can be found at stations
- - There is poor coverage in Westville, the Hill, Newhallville, Beaver Hills, and the East Shore, as of 7/2019. The map of coverage is [here](https://www.bikenewhavenct.com/copy-of-stations)
- - You can temporarily lock the bike at a place with no station (like a grocery store), as long as you eventually return it to a station
- ## Getting a bike
- - Bradley Street Bike Co-Op, in East Rock, can be a great place to find a refurbished used bike for a fair price
- - BSBC also donates bikes to the following organizations, and you may be able to get a free bike if you are affiliated with one of them
- - IRIS
- - CMHC
- - Columbus House
- - Farnam Center
- - VA Errera Community Care Center
- - Wilbur Cross High School
- - The Devil's Gear Bike Shop also sells refurbished bikes
- - Craigslist can be used to find bicycles. Learn how to assess bike quality before buying one! BSBC can teach you this.
- ## CT Bike Laws
- - Conecticut has expanded protections for cyclists over the last few years
- - Cyclists generally have the same rights as motorists, as well as additional rights that allow them to use bike lanes
- - Information about bike safety can be found on the website of the [National Highway Traffic Safety Administration](https://www.nhtsa.gov/road-safety/bicycle-safety), and a pamphlet on Connecticut's cycling laws exists on East Hartford's [website](https://www.easthartfordct.gov/sites/easthartfordct/files/uploads/cyclist_pamphlet_bb.pdf)
- - Rules that people are often unaware of
- - Cyclists must be given three feet of room by cars when a car is passing them
- - Cyclists can ride as far from the right side of the road as they deem neccessary to be safe
- - Cyclists must dismount if they wish to cross an intersection while the pedestrian walk sign is on
- - Cyclists are not required to wear a helmet in Connecticut if they are over 16 years of age
- # Organization
- - A to B
- - Ex: Small distances, medium distances, long distances
- - Pros:
- - Allows direct comparison of different modes of transit
- - Allows discussion of combining modes of transit
- - Cons:
- - Difficult to explain the pros and cons of a form of transit
- - Focuses on "How to get there" rather than factors like disability,
- lack of license, etc.
- - Mode-wise
- - Ex: Train, bus, bike
- - Pros:
- - More depth about a particular mode
- - Lets the reader decide how to fit that mode into their life
- - Cons:
- - Similar to A to B, the "how to get there" focus
