  2. Arumi will drive her way back out the next day, after a long polishing and grinding session, meticulously re-creating the original lens. With MoGui's help of course.
  3.
  4. Mo is doing upkeep of the hangar. Pushbroom in hand, he's keeping the space clean and neat. The aetherzeppelin rests unmolested since the last time Arumi was here, a great old dormant ghost, waiting to be brought back to life. If Mr. Fu is around, he must be either napping, or unseen, as he's nowhere in immediate sight. Perhaps he was on the ship?
  5. Arumi knows how to get on. So she pulls the car right on in, and around to the side of the ship with the ramp. She climbs on, then goes out to the edge to call out to MoGui "I'm going to re-install the engine core, and then restart the engine." She will then go down below to do step one, putting on some gloves and carefully sliding the polished, shiny lens into place.
  6.
  7. Its in the ship's engine room that Arumi will find Mr. Fu, somewhere on between keeping an eye on the engine while it awaited Arumi's key component. He'll stir slightly when she arrives, stretching out and rising up to greet her. "Welcome back, Doctor," greets the little otherdimensional beast.
  8.
  9. Arumi giggles as she walks by Mr. Fu, climbing up into place to start installing the thing. "Hi Mr. Fu" she smiles softly, as she starts the careful, gloved work. "Were you here the whole time I Was working on making this?"
  10.
  11. Mr. Fu stifles a tiny yawn "Here and There, keeping an eye on things. In case of an emergency." His eldritch gaze goes towards the replacement lens that Arumi had so very carefully and exactingly crafted. "It looks like you've done some very good and precise work," offered the little beast. I wasn't sure if the passing of time would make such a thing, easier, or more difficult. Or both." He watches as she sets the thing in place. "Shall I inform Thomas that the systems will need to be re-started?"
  12.
  13. Arumi bites her lip as she gets it just so, then slides a couple of sliders to secure the lens in place. "Yeah, go ahead" she says, hoping off and coming around back to the dragon. "Once this is back up, then I'll take stock of what lenses need replaced in the optical difference engine."
  14.
  15. And just like that, the little dragon is perked up and fully awake, moving with preternatural alacrity after Arumi gives the signal. It was clear that he cared for this ship a great deal, and was thankful for all the aid that the Doctor was providing. She'll hear him calling for MoGui - "Thomas! The Doctor has given the all clear for powering the systems back up!"
  16.
  17. Mo will set the pushbroom aside, then rush up the ramp and onto the ship, to head for the ship's bridge. Once there, he leap into action and assist Mr. Fu in toggling the switches and bringing the ship's core systems back online. Arumi will bear witness to the success of her work as the ship's systems come to life around here in the engine room!
  18.
  19. Arumi lowers her goggles and starts scanning the systems as soon as Fu gives the order. She's watching, making absolutely sure nothing is overheating, or leaking, or anything that looks weird. Assuming all is well, she gives a thumbs up to Fu, then starts walking out. "Good work Thomas," she calls out. "Now I'm going to check every lens in the difference engine."
  20.
  21. At that, she looks again to Fu. "Come on. So, I have a question for you. What can you tell me about a person named Emrick?"
  22.
  23. Mr. Fu is delighted at Arumi's handiwork. It /almost/ feels like old times once the low quiet hum of the optical engine coming online fills the room. But then Arumi is signaling for him to join her, so he does, making his way with her towards the bridge. "He helped me and Thomas on our recovery of the ship. He's got a small bit of magic to him - a maker, and some innate talent with machinery."
  24.
  25. On the bridge, Mo looks over. "Emrick is a magic maker - handy with things, that sorta stuff. I met him in in The Basement, and we're pals."
  26.
  27. Arumi naturally gets a whiff of the "spiritual" or extradimensional nature of Fu every time she looks at him with the goggles active of course. So she lifts those back off to have an ordinary conversation.
  28.
  29. "Prospect Roasters basement? Ah ok. My understanding is that he was helping Thomas with the ship's structure and hull. I'll have to ask him where he was with that." Getting into the difference engine room again, she takes off her bag, pulls out a small but powerful flashlight, and crawls underneath the contraption to start investigating.
  30.
  31. Mo nods, "Yeah, I found a lead on some of the original materials used in the ship's construction. Em was gonna inspect and fortify. His magics not like mine, nor yours, but he seems really good at doing his thing. Making things stronger, durable, resistant - like the best version of themselves."
  32.
  33. Fu gives Arumi a nod, "What Thomas said. He appears to be some sort of enchanter."
  34.
  35. Arumi nods, slipping the flashlight into her mouth for a moment, as she adjusts her goggles, and then pulls it back out, tucking the light into the goggles, to give her a head lamp. "Could you give me his phone number please?"
  36.
  37. She goes into her bag again now, pulling out a roll of masking tape and a market. She starts labeling things, numbering the mounts where lenses are found. "Mr. Fu, do you expect this ship will need functioning armaments in the days to come?"
  38.
  39. Mr. Fu considers, "Do we /have/ a phone number? We usually send a raven," offers the little dragon before his attention is drawn to other matters. "I suppose it all depends If we're going to Hollow Earth, it wouldn't hurt to get all the systems up and running. While we have friends there, the environment is still a wild one, with the danger such wildness brings."
  40.
  41. YMo looks to Arumi, "I think his shop is in the phone book, or online on the Google Maps. But I can also see if I have a card or something somewhere?"
  42.
  43. Arumi nods, biting her lip as she uses her fat sharpie to label positions one by one, writing on tape. "I meant a personal phone number to contact him directly. But if you don't have that, cool, I'll just... go to his shop and try to find him directly. If I give him you guys's names, that should... open things up right?"
  44.
  45. "Mr. Fu, we need to talk more sometime. I have a lot of questions, as the ship is getting into a much better position. And Thomas, did you operate any of this ship's weapons, back in the day?"
  46.
  47. Mo goes to a station, over by where he had set down his messenger bag, and begins rummaging, looking for a business card to Emrick's shop. "Yeah, the Captain taught me how to operate the ship's defense systems back in the day. We weren't necessarily built for dogfights, but we weren't helpless, either," he says with a bittersweet smile. "Aha! I found a card for the shop!" He produces the card and then takes it over to Arumi.
  48.
  49. Mr. Fu watches as Thomas rummages, then looks back to the Doctor. "We are perhaps a little overly predisposed to the personal touch in our communications, yes. And the occasional raven. Emrick is acquainted with both our names, but we haven't been to his shop in a while, due to being busy with keeping an eye on things here."
  50.
  51. Arumi pops the end of her marker into her mouth this time, so that she can put a hand up from underneath the optical difference engine. "Thank you," she murmurs, taking the card and shoving it into her bag, before resuming her labels. "I need to make absolutely sure that I know exactly where everything goes in this, so when I recreate every single lens here, I can swap them in perfectly. That's going to take a week, at least, to do all of these lenses.
  52.
  53. Mo smiles at Arumi as he hands the card over, "His pal, Wick, also helped. Though I don't think he has any magic to him, or at least none that he demonstrated when we salvaged the ship. Just the equipment EM made for him. But both of'em are true blue pals, and helped me in the important task for retrieving this piece of the Captain's legacy." Then he listens to the Doctor's prescription as she lays out the plan for dealing with the next phase of the ship's restoration. "Thank you, Doc," he murmurs. "Sometimes, I feel extraordinarily fortunate, even though I know my luck runs that way as a matter o' course."
  54.
  55. Arumi laughs. "Well, people who work hard make their own luck, Thomas," she asserts, ignoring all the talk of 'magic' as it's all inexplicable anyway. "So yeah, this is going to take a week, to try to recreate these lenses as well as I can. At least. In the meantime, over the next week or so, we need to reach out to those two, Emrick and Wick, and discuss the hull and skeleton of the ship. Find out what they need."
  56.
  57. Mo nods, taking note of the tasks as the Doc breaks them down. "Got it," he nods. "It'll be great if we get access to the Captain's old logs. I mean, I sorta remember my way around Hollow Earth, but - it was a while back, and the navlogs would be super helpful."
  58.
  59. Arumi snickers. "The Hollow Earth was a very early theory in interdimensional travel. Mostly... moved on from these days. But I'm sure we can still get there." She was prepared or this, after the last trip. She then starts one by one, taking out the lenses, labeling THEM with masking tape, and putting them into small containers she pulls out of, and slips back into, her bag. "No danger of these getting damaged in transit."
  60.
  61. Mo watches as Arumi carefully removes, labels, and stores all the various lenses for recreation. But then a timepiece Mo carries will alert. He reaches down and removes a pocketwatch and peers down at it before looking back up to Arumi, "I gotta go and work on lunch for Mr. Fu. Things ok for a bit?"
  62.
  63. Arumi nods. " Yeah, Thomas. You take care of Mr. Fu. I'll drive these back to my lab, and start figuring out how my schedule for the week. Take care of each other."
