- There is no knowledge unworthy of archival. Would that we had infinite paper and infinite time, I would endeavor to record every speck of dust. We must have priorities, though, right? There is no patient unworthy of treatment, but triage still must be done.
- There are a thousand gaps in the system. Endless fractals of nooks and crannies into which information may slip and never be seen again. A letter is handed to a courier, and ends up soaked by the rain by accident; the recipient never receives it and thinks nothing of it. An ancient book in archival sits three years deep in a queue to be transcribed among countless other such records, and in the intervening time a small fire commits the knowledge to ash. An errant strike of the archaeologist's chisel irreparably destroys a valuable sample. It is more common than you may think for information to slip through our fingers.
