Axel Foley, while investigating a car theft ring, comes across something much bigger than that: the same men who shot his boss are running a counterfeit money ring out of a theme park in Los Angeles.
One night in Detroit, during a shoot-out at a chop shop, Detroit cop Axel Foley sees his boss, Inspector Douglas Todd, getting killed by a well dressed man. Using his last breath, Inspector Todd tells Axel to get the man who shot him, and Axel says that he will do that. Axel does some looking around, and finds the killer's vehicle at Wonder World, a theme park in Beverly Hills, California. In Beverly Hills, Axel is reunited with his friend Billy Rosewood, who tells Axel that John Taggart is now retired and living in Arizona. Billy is now the deputy director of operations for joint systems interdepartmental operational command (JSIOC). Billy also has a new partner named Jon Flint. Axel checks out Wonder World, which is owned by Dave "Uncle Dave" Thornton. At Wonder World, Axel rescues two kids who are stuck on a ride that broke down, and after this, Axel is taken to see the park's head of security, Ellis DeWald, and Axel recognizes DeWald as Inspector Todd's killer. Jon refuses to believe this, because DeWald is one of Jon's friends. Ellis runs a counterfeiting ring that uses the theme park as a front. Axel is also falling in love with Janice Perkins, who works at the park. When Dave gets shot by DeWald's men, Axel is accused of being the man who shot Dave. With the help of Billy and Jon, Axel sets out to prove his innocence and get revenge on DeWald.
I saw BEVERLY HILLS COP 3 one night on Cinemax and I had high hopes for the movie during the opening scene, but then my hopes died down. The premise is the same as the first two BEVERLY HILLS COP movies which is one of my problems with this movie. I mean can't the writers think of a new premise? The first BEVERLY HILLS COP movie was hilarious, the second one had its moments, and this one just isn't funny. I admire Eddie Murphy for revisiting the franchise and if there's a BEVERLY HILLS COP 4 then I'll see it as long as the Eddie Murphy returns and the writers can think of a new premise for the series.
1. Terrible scripting. Choppy editing (I could do better with a VHS MACHINE). This made the acting seem 2-dimensional and uninspired. That said, the script and screenplay were a mess, with stilted dialogue and humor-intended situations where they all but used a laugh track on punchline. <br/><br/>It was NOT funny. Really- not funny at all. Not believable. For example, if a cop SEES someone murder a person, and the murderer later even openly confesses to that cop - why would the cop then have to prove it? What&#39;s left to prove?? THE COP IS AN EYEWITNESS. AN EYEWITNESS!! (2) machine guns are useless in this movie; WHO COULD MISS WITH A MACHINE GUN?!? Yet everyone does- CONSTANTLY. People do things in this movie that defy logic, reality, or both. Bad guys shoot people in public (in the open) but they use a suppressor, so nobody notices (SERIOUSLY?!?). A cop is attacked, it&#39;s filmed; but when they play it back its been terribly edited and minutes removed; yet still this proves nobody attacked him ? A guy turns a carnival ride off and on, which sends it into meltdown, cables break, and it falls apart. Ummm. No. <br/><br/>I loved Bev Cop I (I rated it 9/10). This was not just disappointing, it was pathetic. Not worth the electricity to watch it free on TV. (Oh, and it was not funny.).
There's a fundamental lack of human feeling in Beverly Hills Cop III that makes you want to avert your eyes from the people around you when the lights come up. Attending this movie makes you feel like an accomplice to the corruption. [25 May 1994, p.1]
