In the tradition of other cop shows like "Miami Vice" and "Car 54, Where Are You?", this series is no exception. The viewer follows the exploits of T.J. Hooker and Vince Romano as police officers, as they track criminals and enforce the law.
T.J. Hooker is a veteran cop, who rose to the rank of detective but when his partner dies in his arms, Hooker decides to give up being a detective to be a patrolman again. He starts a program wherein rookies are given practical training and the rookie he is assigned is Vince Romano, a cocky kid. And they always butted heads with detectives who don't appreciate Hooker's interference. They answer to Captain Sheridan. During the show's next season, Sheridan's daughter, Stacy joins the department and works at the desk. During the third season, Captain Sheridan was seen less frequently and Stacy began working in the streets under the eye of Officer Jim Corrigan.
Let&#39;s make this real brief.<br/><br/>An ageing cop called hooker....you know it makes sense. I watched this when i was a too young to know better back in the 80&#39;s,i saw an episode or two on sky a little while ago..ewwww<br/><br/>First rate drivel with William shatner lurching about, out running younger criminals,being an all round hero and all while over acting in his normal manner! Not to mention the fact he has skinned a poodle and seems to be wearing it on his head.<br/><br/>Every opening sequence we are treated to the cheesy music and a good shot of the gut as &quot;Hooker&quot; sprints into action.<br/><br/>Avoid this like a car with no brakes.
This series was shown on Sunday evenings in the UK in the early eighties. Being a fan of the original Star Trek and William Shatner in general (we&#39;ll forget Horror at 37000 feet !!) and a lover of cop shows I sat down relaxed with my cup of coffee looking forward to being entertained. How wrong could I have been ? The acting was wooden not helped by the scripts and there was this really oily feel good feeling that the production team were trying impress on the audience. In common with all sorts of cop shows no one ever seems to get promoted however many cases they crack. As for William Shatner ...... I got divorced because the job is more important. What sort of an attitude is that ? And as for that wig he wore ..... his hair looked like it had been professionally coiffured each week and all on a sergeants salary. James Darren, Helen Lockyer - you are worth more than this rubbish.
