  1. What is your ckey?
  2.
  3. CatsinHD — Today at 5:17 PM
  4. williammurdoch
  5.
  6. Mini Moose — Today at 5:17 PM
  7. Are you aware of how this process works?
  8.
  9. CatsinHD — Today at 5:18 PM
  10. Not entirely, no
  11.
  12. Mini Moose — Today at 5:19 PM
  13. Alright, so I will provide you with a few scenarios, then ask you a couple of questions. Each scenario will be different but it will test some sort of attribute. Answer honestly and try to put yourself in the position of a moderator. There are no wrong answers.
  14. Does that make sense?
  15.
  16. CatsinHD — Today at 5:19 PM
  17. It does
  18.
  19. Mini Moose — Today at 5:19 PM
  20. As a moderator, here are the following perms you have:
  21.
  22. - Access to msay. It allows you to speak with other staff members.
  23. - Access to dsay. Self-explanatory, you see the deadchat and can even speak in it.
  24. - Access to in game logs about a lot of things. This include LOOC, dchat, admin actions(like kick, ban, note, warn) and some things to prevent grief. Imagine Urist McUrist open a phoron tank you'll have a message stating it. Same for a fuel tank or a valve of any kind.
  25. - Access the variables of the objects on the server. While you cannot edit them, you can view attack logs on a player, who touched what the last, etc.
  26. - The ability to adminghost, basically will consider you as if you ghosted from the lobby or died. You can aghost again to re-enter your body.
  27. - The ability to Wind people. It freeze them and keep them from interacting with the game.
  28. - The possibility to AdminPM someone, and check all the tickets that have been made on the server.
  29. - The ability to kick, note, warn, ban. More in-depth about this:
  30. Kick = Just boot someone off the server. You can set a custom message. It's not really used often, but still useful to get someone's attention.
  31. Note = It's basically our notepad about players. It's useful for the other staff that will interact with the player, to know their behaviour and if something already happened before.
  32. Warning = Depending the severity of something, it can be directly a warning. This one is visible to the player, and they need to acknowledge it to play on the server again.
  33. Ban = Same thing as kick expect on a larger scale, or even permanently. A ban is often an escalation of warnings.
  34. Every action taken by a staff member is visible on the player's ckey. Only kicks are not shown.
  35. You can ask me about these at any point.
  36. Are you ready?
  37.
  38. CatsinHD — Today at 5:21 PM
  39. Read through all of the perms, I believe I am ready
  40.
  41. Mini Moose — Today at 5:22 PM
  42. Awesome.
  43. First scenario -
  44.
  45. You are alone in the lobby. The round is pretty populated, and majority of players are engaged in some active roleplay. About fifteen minutes into the round, a ticket is opened. "I'd like to report some behavior from Leo Smith"
  46.
  47. CatsinHD — Today at 5:25 PM
  48. I accept the ticket, assuming there are no others, and ask about the behavior that is concerning. While waiting for a response, I would see if I could view the notes for whoever plays Leo Smith to see if there might be previous notes about behavior.
  49.
  50. Mini Moose — Today at 5:27 PM
  51. Leo Smith has a number of notes regarding LRP behavior.
  52. 1. He has thrown punpun down a disposals chute.
  53. 2. He peppersprayed an IPC as a security cadet and called it a dumb 'tin can'
  54. 3. He has a warning for rolling in a wheel chair with a fire extinguisher, to the point that he broke his own skull.
  55. 4. He has a note about throwing food at people and yelling, "FOOD FIGHT"!
  56.
  57. The play says in the ticket - "He keeps slipping me with Soap and won't stop. Security won't do anything because of the antagonists, he's breaking some rules by doing this isn't he?"
  58.
  59. CatsinHD — Today at 5:32 PM
  60. Having the notes and the player's response, I would AdminPM the player of Leo Smith and ask the context and reasoning behind him slipping the other player on soap. If he continues to slip the other player on the soap after the AdminPM, giving a few seconds to see and react to the message, I would wind him.
  61.
  62. Mini Moose — Today at 5:32 PM
  63. The player stops soap slipping and replies with "Hey what's up?" He then starts to walk towards the library. The place this incident was taking was in the Bar.
  64.
  65. CatsinHD — Today at 5:34 PM
  66. I would once again ask what the context was behind slipping the other player's character on the soap. I would also check to see what job his character is currently set to.
  67.
  68. Mini Moose — Today at 5:35 PM
  69. "I don't know, I thought it'd be funny"
  70. He's set to janitor.
  71.
  72. "My RP reasoning is that he was dirty and needed a bath, lol"
  73. He enters the library and gets a book from a shelf.
  74.
  75. CatsinHD — Today at 5:42 PM
  76. I would respond that his reasoning isn't valid for slipping someone on soap, since it can ruin the fun for the other person and doesn't make much IC sense with the amount of showers and sink around and the role of the janitor. Since they have a history of lrp behavior, I would give them a second warning for behavior that isn't suited for the expectations of the server; when making decisions for what to do as a character base it on what the thought process of who your playing and the overall expectations of someone working on this vessel, not what is funny.
  77.
  78. Mini Moose — Today at 5:42 PM
  79. Alright, anything else to add?
  80.
  81. CatsinHD — Today at 5:43 PM
  82. I would also let them know that if that kind of behavior continues, it could lead to a server ban, then let the other player know that it has been dealt with.
  83.
  84. Mini Moose — Today at 5:43 PM
  85. Alrighty. Ticket closed?
  86.
  87. CatsinHD — Today at 5:43 PM
  88. Ticket closed.
  89.
  90. Mini Moose — Today at 5:44 PM
  91. Great, scenario two.
  92. A man is playing a character from New Hai Phong joins with a Korean-descent name. A few minutes later a ticket opens - "Hey, Jin Sook is breaking the lore rule on NHP. He's got it mixed up with Konyang."
  93.
  94. CatsinHD — Today at 5:49 PM
  95. Before I open the ticket, I would check the NHP page on the wiki since the ethnic descent of most human planets is listed at the top. Since NHP is based on descendants from Vietnam, Hong Kong, and South China, I would accept the ticket and open an AdminPM with the player of Jin Sook and ask regarding where his character's name came from.
  96.
  97. Mini Moose — Today at 5:49 PM
  98. "My character is Korean." they reply pretty quickly.
  99.
  100. CatsinHD — Today at 5:49 PM
  101. Is there a lore writer currently on the server during this scenario? A human lore writer, if those distinctions are made.
  102.
  103. Mini Moose — Today at 5:50 PM
  104. There is no lore writer, just you.
  105.
  106. CatsinHD — Today at 5:53 PM
  107. I would respond back to the Jin Sook's player, then, informing him that characters from NHP couldn't be of Korean-descent and that the wiki page for NHP has information on where characters from that planet would be descended from.
  108.
  109. Mini Moose — Today at 5:54 PM
  110. "Well that's whitewashed of you - Who are you to say that? Besides, I've been playing this char for four weeks now!"
  111. They reply after a few moments, then go into OOC.
  112.
  113. "This server is trying to tell me my char can't be Korean!"
  114.
  115. CatsinHD — Today at 5:57 PM
  116. I would respond in AdminPM that I am just ensuring the rules are followed and that you need to read the wiki page before making a character from a planet. If you want to rework the character and make them from Earth, for instance, then that is fine, but as it is they are breaking the rules and lore regarding NHP.
  117.
  118. Mini Moose — Today at 5:58 PM
  119. "Get me your boss, you don't have the right to tell me this!" They continue to go into OOC and spout random things about the staff being racist. It is beginning to disrupt the ic flow of the round.
  120.
  121. CatsinHD — Today at 5:59 PM
  122. Is there a way to mute individual people from OOC or is it just a global thing?
  123.
  124. Mini Moose — Today at 6:00 PM
  125. You can mute them individually
  126. This is a player panel https://gyazo.com/8423f94c2d8e543e4647446a01e20dff
  127. You can use the mute buttons as necessary
  128.
  129. CatsinHD — Today at 6:05 PM
  130. Alright. Considering that their comments are starting to affect the round, I am going to mute them so the round can get back on track. I'll then respond to them telling them that, for now, "You are going to get a warning for the way they are acting both in OOC, the adminPM, and for breaching the rules regarding lore which is listed on the wiki page. If you wish to refute this then you can make a staff complaint on the forums."
  131.
  132. I would put down a note regarding the warning and the way they acted in response to the ticket.
  133.
  134. Mini Moose — Today at 6:07 PM
  135. Alright, anything else to add there? They have no prior notes.
  136.
  137. CatsinHD — Today at 6:10 PM
  138. No. If they hadn't responded the way they did, it would've just been a note and informing them they need to rework their character. But with the comments made in OOC especially, it felt like it should've more than just a note.
  139.
  140. Mini Moose — Today at 6:10 PM
  141. Alrighty. Next scenario
  142. You complete your trial, you've made it, you're a moderator. Your best friend, Tim, congratulates you - then an hour later someone ahelps them for abusing a bug. They're duplicating AR ammunition as a merc. What do you do here?
  143.
  144. CatsinHD — Today at 6:13 PM
  145. I open the ticket and send him an AdminPM informing him that he is abusing a bug, intended or not, and needs to stop.
  146.
  147. I would also check his notes.
  148.
  149. Mini Moose — Today at 6:14 PM
  150. "Oh hey man, good job on the Mod again. This is a bug? Oh, I didn't know...Sorry."
  151.
  152. Tim has no prior notes regarding bug abuse, however he has two other notes.
  153. 1. Explained how to avoid job hopping
  154. 2. Told to watch their conduct in OOC.
  155. The second note was applied a day before this.
  156.
  157. CatsinHD — Today at 6:18 PM
  158. I would respond, it's fine but it's a bug regardless. Stop using it and make a bug report about it. I would also ask him to leave some of the AR ammunition since he wouldn't have it otherwise.
  159.
  160. Mini Moose — Today at 6:18 PM
  161. "Ah dude, it's just me versus all of Security. Come on, you can let it slide? I'll stop but let me use the ammunition please?"
  162.
  163. CatsinHD — Today at 6:19 PM
  164. The point isn't to win against security. You're not supposed to have the extra ammunition so you need to leave it.
  165.
  166. Mini Moose — Today at 6:20 PM
  167. "Nah man, I'm good. We're friends! C'mon. How am I supposed to drive a story if I can't stop myself from being gunned down from security?" Tim replies while beginning to advance towards the holodeck, where conveniently majority of Security and command are at - holding a speech about Corporate unity.
  168.
  169. CatsinHD — Today at 6:23 PM
  170. I am going to wind Tim to avoid starting a confrontation with the ticket open and with bugged ammunition. I once again say, it doesn't matter, a bug is a bug and you're not supposed to have that ammunition. I'm not going to argue on this situation, you need to leave the extra ammunition.
  171.
  172. Mini Moose — Today at 6:23 PM
  173. "I'm not leaving the extra ammunition." He replies after a few minutes.
  174.
  175. CatsinHD — Today at 6:28 PM
  176. I'm giving a warning then. Abusing a bug is against the rules regardless of intention.
  177.
  178. I levy the warning with the stated reason of abusing a bug and refusing to work with staff to fix the issue. A note is added as well about the bug abuse.
  179.
  180. I am unsure, frankly, what would be done in this instance since I assume he is the lone antag.
  181.
  182. Mini Moose — Today at 6:29 PM
  183. Do you think that him being your friend impacts your decision?
  184.
  185. CatsinHD — Today at 6:32 PM
  186. The decision to give a warning would've been the same if everything had been the same except he wasn't my friend. Since he hadn't used the extra ammunition yet and hadn't engaged security yet, there wasn't too much impact to the round so it wouldn't be ban worthy. The mindset seems a little powergamey, but there's not enough between notes and what was said for me to add that. The only thing him being a friend could've impacted is that I told him to leave the extra ammo twice instead of once.
  187.
  188. Mini Moose — Today at 6:33 PM
  189. I see. Anything else you'd like to add to the ticket?
  190.
  191. CatsinHD — Today at 6:34 PM
  192. There's nothing to add to the ticket, but I'm unsure how I would go from there since he is the antag of the round and he has extra ammo.
  193.
  194. Mini Moose — Today at 6:35 PM
  195. He'd give the ammo away and just fight security and die.
  196. Next scenario!
  197. You are approached on discord by a player who is showing screenshots of a character in game being extremely homophobic against a known lgbt character. What do you do?
  198.
  199. CatsinHD — Today at 6:37 PM
  200. I would check if other staff are currently on the server and let the player know that the situation will be handled.
  201.
  202. Mini Moose — Today at 6:38 PM
  203. There is no other staff.
  204. Are you logging on, or delegating?
  205.
  206. CatsinHD — Today at 6:39 PM
  207. Since there's not other staff, I'd log on assuming I have the time to. Is the character in the screenshots a human?
  208.
  209. Mini Moose — Today at 6:40 PM
  210. Yes, they're a simple human character.
  211.
  212. CatsinHD — Today at 6:40 PM
  213. If I didn't have the time to log on I'd likely delegate to another staff member who is free to handle it.
  214. I'd ask the player who approached me the name of the character in the screenshots and see if they are in round.
  215.
  216. Mini Moose — Today at 6:42 PM
  217. "Niko Blazkovich" is the character. They're still in round. By the time you log in, a full blown fight is happening in ooc between two well known players. One is defending their IC actions of being homophobic, and the other is saying that it is intolerable and violating rule 1.
  218.
  219. CatsinHD — Today at 6:46 PM
  220. I would send a message over OOC asking them to both settle down for the time being. I would open Admin PM with the player being accused. I would ask them for the context surrounding the statements I received over discord.
  221.
  222. I would check notes for the accused player. For the second person in the OOC fight, I would AdminPM asking what statements that were being made to see if they matched the ones sent via Discord or if more were made.
  223.
  224. Mini Moose — Today at 6:47 PM
  225. The player replies with "I didn't mean to piss off the resident F-slur's, lol. Can I just get back to my game?" The statements were a variety of really homophobic things. The type you'd hear from someone extremely ignorant.
  226. The notes mention nothing of this behavior. They have a relatively clean record.
  227.
  228. CatsinHD — Today at 6:51 PM
  229. I would respond that we don't accept or allow comments along those lines on the server, both IC and OOC. It is rude and hurtful to players even if it was directed towards a character.
  230.
  231. I would add a note about the comments made, both in character and the slur used over adminPM.
  232.
  233. Mini Moose — Today at 6:52 PM
  234. Alright. Anything else? The ticket doesn't go anywhere else and the other party is satisfied with your resolution.
  235.
  236. CatsinHD — Today at 6:53 PM
  237. None
  238. Well- was the second player also the person who approached via discord?
  239.
  240. Mini Moose — Today at 6:53 PM
  241. Yes
  242.
  243. CatsinHD — Today at 6:54 PM
  244. Alright, nothing else
  245.
  246. Mini Moose — Today at 6:54 PM
  247. You're an antagonist and you end up killing a player by cutting their head off with a fireaxe because they wouldn't comply with you. Another player comes in, a doctor and tries to fight you with a gun they found. You kill them easily because they were unarmored. Both of those players ahelp you. What do you do?
  248.
  249. CatsinHD — Today at 6:55 PM
  250. Am I the lone staff on the server?
  251.
  252. Mini Moose — Today at 6:55 PM
  253. No.
  254.
  255. CatsinHD — Today at 6:56 PM
  256. I would ask if the other staff members could handle at least the ticket from the person I killed. If only one ticket can be taken, I would take the ticket from the doctor.
  257.
  258. Mini Moose — Today at 6:57 PM
  259. Okay, there isn't a need to pursue this scenario, I got the answer necessary.
  260. Ready for a few questions?
  261.
  262. CatsinHD — Today at 6:58 PM
  263. Yes.
  264.
  265. Mini Moose — Today at 6:59 PM
  266. Awesome.
  267. Do you feel that you will be able to remain as transparent as possible? Will you be able to keep any personal bias out of official judgement, regarding political affiliation, sexual orientations, gender and race?
  268.
  269. CatsinHD — Today at 7:01 PM
  270. Yes. The only concern I may have is comments on LGBT, such as from earlier, but I believe that I handle comments like that well and avoid letting it get to me.
  271.
  272. Mini Moose — Today at 7:03 PM
  273. Could you elaborate?
  274.
  275. CatsinHD — Today at 7:10 PM
  276. Demeaning comments on mostly gender have a level of bite or jokes that are quite ignorant in a bad way. It hasn't been an issue as much since with most comments there is a level of separation that let's me ignore or handle it better, especially since most people don't know me.
  277.
  278. I mention it because they are more of a concern to me than politics and race and such. Not enough where I think it would affect my ability to make sound judgements though.
  279.
  280. Mini Moose — Today at 7:10 PM
  281. Okay
  282. Do you think you will be able to adapt to criticism well? Why, or why not? If you cannot, what is your plan to be able to adapt?
  283.
  284. CatsinHD — Today at 7:11 PM
  285. Criticism of decisions I would make as a moderator?
  286.
  287. Mini Moose — Today at 7:11 PM
  288. Sure, or in general. Feedback from peers, and community members.
  289. If someone calls you a shit mod, how will you handle it basically?
  290. And if someone gives you constructive ways to improve, how would you take it? If at all
  291.
  292. CatsinHD — Today at 7:14 PM
  293. Assuming I can talk with someone easily who calls me shit mod I would prefer to ask them what decisions I've made that let them to say that. If it's just an insult or there isn't anything constructive behind it then so be it.
  294.
  295. If it was constructive feedback that doesn't conflict with standards or rules in place then I would accept it willingly. I am only human and I cannot improve without self-reflection and others telling me what I can improve on.
  296. I do try to justify my actions, but they aren't always sound in hindsight. Maybe too soft or too much for the situation. That's the point of community feedback and staff complaints.
  297.
  298. Mini Moose — Today at 7:16 PM
  299. Alright
  300. Anything else to add there?
  301.
  302. CatsinHD — Today at 7:16 PM
  303. Don't believe so
  304.
  305. Mini Moose — Today at 7:17 PM
  306. I am doing two interviews at once rn.
  307.
  308. CatsinHD — Today at 7:17 PM
  309. Oh, rip. Sorry if I took long
  310.
  311. Mini Moose — Today at 7:17 PM
  312. So we've talked about your activity a little bit, right?
  313. We're almost done here dw.
  314. What is a plan you're going to follow regarding your activity? If you get the trial and pass, are you concerned with burnout affecting you at all?
  315.
  316. CatsinHD — Today at 7:18 PM
  317. Yeah, we've talked about my activity before I made the application
  318.
  319. Mini Moose — Today at 7:19 PM
  320. We did, but some other staff members have brought it up and I wanted to speak with you about it now as well so I can include it in the interview for everyone to read.
  321.
  322. CatsinHD — Today at 7:23 PM
  323. Fair. I can't help the time constraints too much. A round or 2 a day is what I can manage on the week days with classes and such. I'm not largely concerned about burnout, though. While I know playing command isn't being a moderator, the current schedule I have with rounds has limited my burnout and still makes me quite happy. I try to get at least one round in a week, but most other days I have time to observe.
  324.
  325. Going forward, I might try to get a lower intensity character into my character list so that I am less looking for a "good" manifest.
  326. Mini Moose — Today at 7:27 PM
  327. Okay. Do you think you'll be most active on the Weekends then?
  328.
  329. CatsinHD — Today at 7:28 PM
  330. Most likely. I have more time obviously, although the times I can play are mostly midday and afternoons rather than the peak times.
  331.
  332. Mini Moose — Today at 7:28 PM
  333. Okay, no worries. I have nothing else to add here my friend, we can conclude this.
  334.
  335. CatsinHD — Today at 7:28 PM
  336. Sounds good
  337.
  338. Mini Moose — Today at 7:29 PM
  339. Do you have anything you'd like to add before I close it up?
  340.
  341. CatsinHD — Today at 7:29 PM
  342. I don't believe so, no.
  343.
  344. Mini Moose — Today at 7:31 PM
  345. Awesome
  346. ------------
