  1. Corsola
  2.
  3. Today I’ll… cute coral… and how much stronger it is now in generation 7
  4.
  5. If you like please consider giving a thumbs up to support the channel. If not, that’s fine too!
  6.
  7. First off we’ll look at how Corsola performed in battle before gen 7
  8.
  9. Water/Rock from Gen 2. VERY slow, it’s coral, makes sense. Low offenses but kinda decent bulk. Issue is the common weaknesses granted by Water Rock (Ground, Fighting, Electric and Grass)
  10.
  11. Where the news is a little better is in its movepool. It has access to great utility moves like Stealth Rock, Scald and the very important Recover, giving it reliable healing.
  12.
  13. In generation 5 it was granted a great boon in the ability Regenerator, which makes this Pokemon a decent pivot, especially with its useful resistances to normal, flying, ice, poison and fire type attacks.
  14.
  15. That’s all I will say on Corsola for now. Its lacklustre stats relegated Corsola to be virtually unused, as the bulky sets usually weren’t quite bulky enough.
  16.
  17. And now we get to the buffs.
  18.
  19. 1. Stats
  20. Impressive buffs to its bulk which will improve virtually all of Corsola’s potentially sets. +10 to HP, defense and SpD, making it an all round much more reliable pivot and utility Pokemon! The best way to celebrate this stat buff is on a utility set:
  21.
  22. good gREEF (Corsola) (F) @ Leftovers
  23. Ability: Regenerator
  24. Level: 50
  25. EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpD
  26. Bold Nature
  27. IVs: 0 Atk
  28. - Scald
  29. - Toxic
  30. - Stealth Rock
  31. - Recover
  32.
  33. 2. Liquidaton
  34. This one may initially seem strange because I have not yet talked about Corsola’s other ability, Hustle. Corsola’s attack stat is an abysmal 55, but Hustle gives the attack stat a 1.5 x boost AFTER EVs are applied, making the attack stat equivalent to around ~110, though this does come at cost of reducing the accuracy of all attacks to 80% of their usual accuracy. It has had very powerful (if unreliable) Rock STAB in Head Smash since gen 6, and this can OHKO many pokemon. But it had NO Water STAB and no more accurate STAB. Liquidation fixes this as a powerful, more accurate move., making an offensive Corsola more viable than ever before! To make the most of this power, a bulky Choice Band set can be used. You’ll need some luck to hit your moves, but One Hit Kos are possible!
  35.
  36. Coralcoholic (Corsola) (F) @ Choice Band
  37. Ability: Hustle
  38. Level: 50
  39. EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe
  40. Adamant Nature
  41. - Head Smash
  42. - Liquidation
  43. - Earthquake
  44. - Sucker Punch
  45.
  46. 3. Z-Moves
  47. As all Pokemon got access to Z-Moves, I usually only talk about Z-Moves as a buff when they give a POkemon a way to boost stats that it never had before, or a completely new role, but I will make an exception this time, because Corsola’s offensive Z-Moves have so much going for them! Specifically Continental Crush on a Hustle set based on Head Smash. The usual accuracy of an incredibly powerful Hustle boosted Head Smash is only slightly better than Hypnosis at 64%, but Z-Moves always hit, so this negates the shaky accuracy of Head Smash AND the negative effects of Hustle! Combined with this Continental Crush capping out at 200 power, that is one really cool Z-Move. And why not try to go all out with the gimmicks by sweeping with a Rock Polish set? Corsola will outspeed base 105s at +2 with a neutral nature!
  48.
  49. Need4Seaweed (Corsola) (F) @ Rockium Z
  50. Ability: Hustle
  51. Level: 50
  52. EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
  53. Adamant Nature
  54. - Head Smash
  55. - Liquidation
  56. - Earthquake
  57. - Rock Polish
  58.
  59. 4. Whirlpool
  60. OK so this last one is a personal favourite. You’ve seen me talking about trapping sets previously, particularly with Chimecho. Well, Corsola also now has a much better trapping set at its disposal. Thanks to the virtual console transfer, Corsola can now have Whirlpool alongside its Regenerator ability, the much more beneficial ability for this set! The damage over time from Whirlpool, combined with a Toxic, can take out a Pokemon in under 5 turns! It’s important to note that you need to trap asap and Toxic asap otherwise the trap will run out before the Pokemon is KO’d. Entry hazards like Stealth Rock and especially Toxic Spikes make this set a lot more potent. Binding Band is very important for getting the KO. This set is another more gimmicky set, but Whirlpool can be helpful on the regular utility set as the residual damage is great chip for a Pokemon with low offenses, and trapping means you have to make fewer predictions.
  61.
  62. Killer Coral (Corsola) (M) @ Binding Band
  63. Ability: Regenerator
  64. EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
  65. Calm Nature
  66. IVs: 0 Atk
  67. - Whirlpool
  68. - Toxic
  69. - Refresh / Protect
  70. - Recover
  71.
  72. And there you have it! My take on Corsola, a lot of new ways to use it. The stat buff makes it overall a lot more viable, but all the other additions make it a much more versatile prospect too. Whether you want to try a more reliable standard set, or fire off those gung-ho Hustle Head Smashes, Corsola is bound to be fun to use.
