- Frequently Asked Questions
- Q: What is the world record?
- A: I hold the record for all three categories.
- - Any% in 48:55 (http://www.twitch.tv/jumpyluff/c/3576418)
- - All Gadgets in 1:20:17 (http://www.twitch.tv/jumpyluff/c/5774591)
- - 100% in 2:27:50 (http://www.twitch.tv/jumpyluff/c/5770227)
- Q: What console is this on?
- A: I play this PS1 game on a PS2 with slow disk speed. Fast disk speed crashes the game at some parts.
- Q: What is the objective of this game? Can you provide a summary for the game?
- A: You start out in Mt. Crumpit: The Grinch's home. You go through a tutorial and quickly learn everything you need to know. There are only four levels in this game, but they are big levels. The first level, Whoville, starts out unlocked. To open Who Forest, you need to complete three of the missions in Whoville. To unlock The Dump, you need to complete three of the missions in Who Forest. To unlock Who Lake, you need to complete three of the missions in The Dump. After completing three of the missions in Who Lake, the Sleigh Parts missions are unlocked. This means that you must backtrack to each of the previous levels and collect a part of the sleigh. When all sleigh parts are collected, you can go to the sleigh stored in Mt. Crumpit and chase/defeat Santa. Throughout the levels, you will see collectables: rotten eggs, nitro eggs, blueprints, and gifts. Rotten eggs are replaceable. They are the ammo used to power each of The Grinch's gadgets. The nitro eggs, only seen in The Dump, are a temporary upgrade to the Rotten Egg Launcher. They are able to break robots. The blueprints are scattered throughout each level. When all blueprints are collected for a single gadget, you can go back to Mt. Crumpit to assemble the gadget. There are 3000 gifts in the game. Similar to gems in the Spyro series, gifts have a range of how valuable they are (1,3,5,10).
- Q: What are all of the categories?
- A: In this game, timing starts from gaining control of The Grinch in Mt. Crumpit and ends when losing control after neutralizing Santa.
- - Any% means "beat the game, no restrictions".
- - All Gadgets means "beat the game, while assembling all of the gadgets in the game". There are seven gadgets in total: Binoculars, Rotten Egg Launcher, Rocket Spring, Slime Shooter, Octopus Climbing Device, Marine Mobile, and Grinch Copter.
- - 100% means "beat the game, while obtaining 100% of what the game has to offer". This means completing every mission in each level. The most notable difference is the addition of a couple extra missions in each level, and squashing each and every gift in the game. Also, there are four "heart-of-stone"s to collect in the game, one from each level. They increase maximum health.
- Q: Why don't you get the Slime Shooter in Any%?
- A: I found a trick that I call Slime Shooter Skip. Not a fancy name by any means, but it does the trick. Basically, if you want to beat the game, the developers intended for it to only be absolutely necessary in one part of the game: the minefield in The Dump. How it works is as soon as you enter the area, you place Max underneath where the first mattress would fall. When you shoot down the mattress, Max will zip up to the top of it and the mattress, for some reason, will be in a state of constantly bouncing. This makes the spinning robot completely harmless. Normally, to complete this area, you need to use the Slime Shooter on the robot and it will stop attacking. This bypasses the need to collect the Slime Shooter blueprints throughout seven of the ten houses in Who Forest.
- Q: What do the gadgets do?
- A: Here is a summary of each gadget:
- - [B] Binoculars: gives The Grinch the ability to zoom in and out while in first person view
- - [REL] Rotten Egg Launcher: shoots eggs (or nitro eggs) to kill enemies, break gifts, hit switches, etc.
- - [RS] Rocket Spring: gives The Grinch the ability to spring up way higher than without it
- - [SS] Slime Shooter: shoots slime (costs 5 eggs) to stun enemies/objects, get gifts out of cops, etc.
- - [OCD] Octopus Climbing Device: gives The Grinch the ability to climb SPECIFIC flat walls
- - [MM] Marine Mobile: allows accessibility to the Submarine World at the start of Who Lake
- - [GC] Grinch Copter: gives The Grinch the ability to fly; it can also pop gifts
- Q: Where are the blueprints located?
- A: Here is a list of locations for each blueprint:
- - Binoculars: 4/4 in Whoville
- - Rotten Egg Launcher: 4/4 in Whoville
- - Rocket Spring: 9/9 in Who Forest
- - Slime Shooter: 9/9 in Who Forest
- - Octopus Climbing Device: 9/9 in The Dump
- - Marine Mobile: 16/16 in Who Lake
- - Grinch Copter: 4/16 in Whoville, 4/16 in Who Forest, 4/16 in The Dump, 4/16 in Who Lake (all in sub-areas)
- Q: How are you moving Max without pressing Select?
- A: At (almost) any time, you can move Max by simply moving the right analog stick.
- This FAQ is a work in progress. If I commonly get questions, I will add to this. - Jumpyluff
