You started a new job- one where of you have a number of mamono co-workers. During the first few weeks, you struck up a friendship with an Arachne named Hama who- pardon the expression- showed you the ropes. She seems to have no ulterior motives, either, since one afternoon she confided in you her fondness for an assistant manager named Caleb.

During a lunch break one day, you can see Hama talking with Caleb in the breakroom. You can't help but eavesdrop, noticing they seem to be getting along pretty well. Neither you nor Hama expected what happens next as Caleb suddenly asks if Hama would be willing to make an arachne silk garment on his behalf.

Hama's eyes light up for pure joy upon hearing this, but she's immediately crestfallen as Caleb continues, explaining that he and the Sphinx from accounting have a weekend getaway planned and he had something along the lines of a French Maid or schoolgirl outfit in mind.

Hama absently murmurs that she'll consider it as Caleb thanks her on his way out. However, as soon as he's gone tears begin to flow freely from her eyes as she stifles a choked sob. Just then, she turns and notices you have been there the whole time.

What do you do?

I go out and hug her. I knew then that it was wrong of me to have eavesdropped, but if I hadn't I wouldn't have been able to comfort her like I am now. She soon whips away her tears and we get back to work. Over the next few months, I began to hang out a lot more with Hama, volunteering to help her at her house for a few things, and such things as just to keep her company.We would laugh and poke fun of each other sometimes too, I woulds tease her about her granny-style crocheting, she would tease me about my grampa pose while doing a crossword puzzle, and together we would laugh and talk about the many things we would do before we would reach that age.

One day, Hama's birthday had arrived and I hadn't known anything about it until the day of. Rushing off during my lunch hour, I arrived back with a neatly wrapped gift of new crochet needles and fabric colorant with a small pair of bifocals to be funny. However, she found me in the break room and shyly poked a red papered box my way, saying it was a gift. I explain that, it should be her that gets a gift on her birthday, but she insisted I open it, saying that depending on how I would react to the gift, it would be the greatest gift she ever got. I open it up to see that it is a pair of Arachne silk mittens and a small crossword puzzle book, my name stenciled to them.

I look at her in utter bafflement, knowing fully well what a gift of arachne silk signified, but as I was about to speak, I was struck by her sudden but bashful kiss, almost knocking the wind from my lungs. There she asked me if I wouldn't mind going out and try to be a couple, to which I replied that I would be honored to and that I would do more than just try for her.

To this very day, with her dusting around the house and sitting in her chair, crochet needles in hand, and a yearning look in her eyes, I am happy that I got the chance to have Hama all to myself.
