  1. EXTREME BUDGET ASTROGRAPH
  2. Here I outline a hypothetical procedure for constructing an extremely cheap astrograph for imaging objects like the Moon or the satellites of Jupiter.
  3.
  4. The Telescope:
  5. -dollar tree magnifying glass objective. This is a non-achromat lens, likely made of glass but possibly made of plastic.
  6. -single color filter (green for monochrome photos, red blue and green if you wish to attempt color photos) to get around chromatic aberration.
  7. -postal tube OR can of pringles, depending upon which fits the objective lens.
  8.
  9. The Camera:
  10. -the cheapest webcam you can get. An existing smartphone camera will not work.
  11.
  12. Procedure:
  13. -find the focal length of the magnifying glass. cut the tube to just shy of this. mount the magnifying glass into the tube. Cover the front of the tube with green filter.
  14. -take the lens out of the webcam. if your webcam is so cheap it only has a pinhole as a lens, remove the pinhole somehow. you want to expose the entire sensor chip. the ir filter can stay on unless you want to make an ir telescope.
  15. -mount the camera in the tube, using the cap from the tube and some glue.
  16.
  17. you now have an extremely cheap astrograph now go try to photograph the moon with it you nerd.
