  1. ==== READ THIS FIRST ====
  2.
  3. As always, there are risks associated with hacking your console. I don't take
  4. any responsibility if anything goes wrong.
  5.
  6. Do NOT update your Vita past 3.60 if you want to use hacks! Anything past that
  7. has almost nothing (see section) and there is no known downgrade method. But,
  8. on 3.60 there are some other restrictions:
  9. - Inability to play games requiring a newer firmware version. As a rough guide,
  10. avoid games released after October 2016.
  11. - PSN may be inaccessible on the Vita. At time of writing (April 2017) HENkaku
  12. version spoof is working. If PSN cannot be accessed on the Vita there are
  13. still a couple of options, check the PSN section.
  14.
  15. To avoid unwanted updates, keep it in flight mode where possible, make sure any
  16. Internet connections have DNS set to 212.47.229.76, turn off automatic update
  17. downloading (settings->system->auto-start settings), and make sure to choose no
  18. if an update nag appears. Be careful about letting other people play on it too.
  19.
  20. TODO: Clarify which ones are safe to buy, basically new ones, from the West if
  21. possible but apparently Japanese ones are also safe depending on the colour.
  22.
  23. ==== HENKAKU ====
  24.
  25. This is what allows everything else to work. To set it up, make sure you're on
  26. 3.60, open up your browser, and go to the following site.
  27.
  28. http://go.henkaku.xyz/
  29.
  30. It may take a few tries.
  31.
  32. HENkaku will need to be set up again if you power off your Vita, keep it in
  33. sleep mode to avoid this. You'll also want to set up the offline installer so
  34. you don't need Internet to do it.
  35.
  36. ==== UPDATING TO 3.60 FOR HENKAKU ====
  37.
  38. Do NOT update in the standard way, it will take you to latest firmware! Use the
  39. following guide.
  40.
  41. http://wololo.net/2016/08/09/manually-update-ps-vita-firmware-3-60/
  42.
  43. ==== UTILITIES ====
  44.
  45. molecularShell comes with HENkaku, it's a basic file browser, VPK installer and
  46. FTP server. You will also use it to enable/disable unsafe homebrew as needed.
  47.
  48. MaiDumpTool (Vita pirating), Adrenaline (PSP/PSX pirating) and CTManager
  49. (custom themes) have their own section. Other homebrew:
  50.
  51. - VitaShell
  52. https://github.com/TheOfficialFloW/VitaShell/releases
  53. Just an improved molecularShell, notably allows you to access the SD card via
  54. USB. Recommended to use instead. Requires unsafe homebrew for some functions.
  55.
  56. - HENkaku offline installer
  57. https://github.com/henkaku/offline-installer/releases
  58. Sets up the E-mail program as an offline entrypoint for HENkaku. Make sure to
  59. re-run the installer whenever it updates. Requires unsafe homebrew enabled to
  60. run.
  61.
  62. - RetroArch
  63. http://buildbot.libretro.com/nightly/playstation/vita/
  64. GO AWAY SQUAREPUSHER but in all seriousness it's the best emulator on Vita.
  65. Install the full VPK instead of individual cores. Don't expect all of them to
  66. perform well though.
  67.
  68. - vitaQuake
  69. http://rinnegatamante.it/site/psv_hbs.php
  70. It's Quake. What more to say? Supports the expansions, mods, and multiplayer.
  71. Some framerate issues for now. Mod selector only in the 2.0 version for some
  72. reason.
  73.
  74. - Another Metroid 2 Remake
  75. https://nicoblog.org/psvita/another-metroid-2-remake-return-of-samus-region-free-vitamin-2-0-ps-vita-vpk/
  76. https://my.mixtape.moe/whtatk.vpk (alt download link)
  77. The fan remake of Metroid II Return of Samus. Absolutely heretical.
  78.
  79. TODO: What else?
  80.
  81. ==== PSN ====
  82.
  83. I repeat: Do NOT update under any circumstance! You are hosed if you do.
  84.
  85. As mentioned, PSN may or may not work. But you can create and link an account
  86. and will need to do this to set up Adrenaline. With a PS3 it is also possible
  87. to use as a middleman for the PS Store if you want digital copies of games and
  88. PSN is blocked on the Vita.
  89.
  90. https://hackinformer.com/PlayStationGuide/PSV/olderfirmwareguide.html
  91.
  92. Be aware being able to access PSN does not allow you to bypass game firmware
  93. requirements or PSN regional lockout.
  94.
  95. ==== PIRATING ====
  96.
  97. Install MaiDumpTool, this allows for installing pirated games/DLC, and also
  98. dumping your own. Make sure unsafe homebrew is enabled when using this tool.
  99.
  100. https://github.com/LioMajor/MaiDumpToolEN/releases
  101.
  102. Look up "Mai Torrent" to find a game collection. I'd be hazed for linking it.
  103.
  104. To install a game, extract the ZIP, then copy the GAMEID folder and any _patch
  105. and _addc folders to ux0:/mai then in MaiDumpTool install the game, then patch
  106. and DLC if applicable. If a game has DLC you will also need to switch the game
  107. loading method to 5 or 6, which is needed depends on the game.
  108.
  109. TODO: Document Vitamin for the few games that require it. I have no experience
  110. with the tool.
  111.
  112. ==== ADRENALINE ====
  113.
  114. Before starting, make sure you have a PSN account set up on your Vita, refer to
  115. PSN section. Also make sure unsafe homebrew is enabled as the installer tools
  116. require it (Adrenaline itself doesn't).
  117.
  118. Next, use this tool to activate your Vita if necessary, and obtain a PSP demo
  119. to inject Adrenaline into.
  120.
  121. http://gekihen.customprotocol.com/en/project/ePSP-Bubble-Installer
  122.
  123. Then run the actual Adrenaline installer on it.
  124.
  125. https://github.com/Freakler/vita-AdrenalineEasyInstaller/releases
  126.
  127. Finally, run through the initial PSP setup. PSP ISOs need to be copied into
  128. ux0:/pspemu/ISO and in Adrenaline will show up under Game -> Memory Stick™. As
  129. of Adrenaline 3 you can also run Playstation games provided they're converted
  130. to PSP eBoot.
  131.
  132. https://nicoblog.org/guides/psx2psp-v1-4-2-how-to-convert-games-to/
  133.
  134. Note: I had to do a partial Vita activation before the bubble downloader would
  135. be able to activate it properly. Only had to do "Games" and "Video" activation.
  136. "System" wanted me to update the system first.
  137.
  138. ==== CUSTOM THEMING ====
  139.
  140. Themes, link to the installer program, and also how to make your own. Pretty
  141. simple stuff. The theme installer requires unsafe homebrew.
  142.
  143. http://psv.altervista.org/
  144.
  145. ==== MULTI-ACCOUNTING ====
  146.
  147. I haven't tried this but it might be helpful for people wanting to bypass the
  148. PSN region lockout.

  151.
  152. ==== 3.61 AND OVER ====
  153.
  154. Don't bother for serious hacking but in future it may open up some interesting
  155. options, notably multiple PSN accounts, and removal of the PSTV blacklist.
