- Harvest Moon: Save the Homeland
- NG+ All Endings Notes (Chicken spam, TH1 first)

- THEORY
- - The idea behind this route is that by using the mad dog strat (sacrificing dog affection for no sickness), we can get the dog to Summer and save a trip to the Sacred Land. If we did HR first, then using animal abuse strats would lower his affection too much, and you'd have to open the Sacred Land early the next year before his affection got too low.
- - It also means we can ride the horse to and from the Sacred Land and use our Animal Medicine to get him through the Summer rainy season (with a little bit of Fall YOLO).
- - It synergizes well with CC and GD, since they can save time from the horse, but the previous route put them much later in the run when the horse was already dead.
- - Since there is some weather YOLO at the end of GD anyway, we can take advantage of that to hopefully kill the horse, and we can use EW as a buffer in the next slot to ensure the horse dies, since we can sleep spam at the beginning of EW before we start spamming Gwen, since the calendar matters very little in EW.
- - The only potential inconsistency is if we can't reliably get the Bob heal cutscene with the dog during the initial TH1 sleep spam. That's why I note to feed the dog on the first 3 days of TH1 (days we are going outside anyway), so we can clear the first two Tim cutscenes. It feels like the Bob heal CS is reliable when overlapped with the 1- and 2-heart horse cutscenes, which we automatically trigger by spamming Bob while having the horse.
- - Even if there is some YOLO or inconsistency to the strat, by putting TH1 first, you could at least in theory reset for the right outcome if you wanted to, if it was reliable enough.
- - Using the horse for TH2 might sound attractive, but because Dia's version of the Sacred Land CS is a farm cutscene, you can't take the horse there or back on your first trip, so it makes more sense to get rid of the horse first and put TH2 later.
- - It also helps BB because we can put it after AS, and you don't have to monkey around with whether you have a surviving chicken at the start of BB.
- - You do lose time for buying extra Animal Medicines, but you can combine it a couple times with selling the chicken, which is faster than chicken death anyway, so it seems to even out in favor of this route.
- - Putting FS this late in the run is scary, but you just have to get lucky.
- - You might think that chicken spam is a great opportunity to take advantage of villagers' birthdays, but there's actually very few that work because their birthdays are always on the same day of the week, and if they are indoors on that day, then it's a no-go. Currently the only birthdays the route uses are Bob's (Summer 1, TH2) and Lyla's (Spring 27, AS). I tested Louis's birthday (Fall 2) for BB, but his birthday textbox is just too slow, and with the extra sleeping, it's almost a minute slower than just spamming him the full 80 times early in the year.
- DOG NOTES
- - The dog gets -2 every day you don't feed him if he's not sick. If he is sick, not feeding has no penalty.
- - There are two possible cutscenes when you fail to take care of the dog. One where Gwen says the dog has ruined Ronald's crops, and one where Bob comes too. In the former, the dog is not healed, while he is healed in the latter.
- - Both cutscenes require you to own the doghouse.
- - In the Bob heal cutscene, Bob gets -8 and the dog gets +10 (might depend on which dog you have?).
- - Which neglect cutscene you get seems to depend on the dog's affection, not Bob or Gwen's affection.
- - The dog usually seems to be able to survive about 10 days without healing.
- - The healing cutscene definitely can't stop dog death, but it can protect the dog temporarily. However, you do need to exit the house to trigger it, of course.
- - For some reason I can't reliably trigger the healing cutscene, but when it does work, it seems to work from high affection (235+?). It also seems to have something to do with the HR cutscenes, or Bob, or something, because it only feels consistent when overlapping with the 1-heart and 2-heart cutscenes (not the first two Tim cutscenes or GD1).
- - Actually, the heal cutscene isn't even consistent with the HR cutscenes. I have no idea why it sometimes triggers, sometimes doesn't, or why the dog sometimes gets sick, sometimes doesn't. Need to test his whole "mood" system.
- - In AS, I'm pretty sure it's faster to gift Kurt first, rather than spamming Lyla and taking the chicken back to the farm (9 loads rather than 10 loads, but might be worth timing). It could be used as a safer strat (more leeway on the CoTF to reach Lyla), but it seems like the chicken may not die if left outside as a chick, which makes it unpredictable.
