  1. The following morning you awake to the sun shining on your face, the intensity burning holes through your skin. You try to wiggle away from the persistent beam, but to no avail. Begrudgingly, you open your eyes. In the brief second that you open your eyes and have to close them again due to the brightness, you spot a nurse pony at the bed next to yours.
  2. "Could you please do something about that light in my eyes" you ask in the general direction of the nurse, somehow sounding slightly less tired than you actually were.
  3. The nurse just replied by going to the window that the sunlight was coming through, and closed the blinds just enough to shield your face from the sun's onslaught.
  4. At this point, as luck would have it, the doctor noticed that you were (somewhat) awake, and so she trotted over to your bedside.
  5. "Good morning, Mr Anonymous, are you feeling better today?" the doctor asked.
  6. And so just like that you weren't going to get any more sleep. Typical, all you wanted was a couple more hours.
  7. "I'm alright, I guess," you answer, keeping your eyes shut. "At least my headaches gone, mostly. Could do with some water though". You decide not to say anything about you being really not alright due to being in (what you could only guess) another world or dimension.
  8. "Of course." She called for the nearest nurse to fetch a glass of water for you. "now, if you are feeling well enough, the Princess asked me to let her know when you are awake. She has quite a few questions to ask you. Nothing bad, I assure you".
  9. Well, at least she may be able to answer quite a few of my questions.
  10. "Could you at least give me a while longer to rest?" you ask, hoping for just a bit more shut-eye.
  11. "I'll send for the Princess to get down here for ten-thirty. That will give you fifteen more minutes". And with that, the doctor walked away, leaving you alone for what will probably be the longest fifteen minutes of your life. You reach for the glass of water that the nurse had just put on your bedside table, took a quick sip, then laid your head back down to rest.
  12. Man, half ten? I must have slept for quite a while, but then again I have no idea what time it was when they brought me into this place, the time doesn’t seem synched with the time on earth, hell there's no guarantee that they still have the same time frame as on earth. Well, on the bright side they all seem to speak English, imagine how much more awkward this would be if they all spoke a foreign language?
  13. For the next 10 minutes or so, you just continued to think about this place and the differences between them, and of course, how the fuck you got here in the first place. Your thoughts were slightly interrupted when you heard the main door open, and the slightly heavier hoofsteps of (who you assume to be) the Princess approaching your bed. Before they come to a stop, you turn yourself around, and shift yourself up on the bed so that you are in a sitting position, with your back against your pillows. You gaze up at the regal pony, who is also staring down at yourself. You are still fully clothed (thankfully), so it doest matter that your blanket only reaches your waist.
  14. "Good morning, Princess," you greet her.
  15. "Good morning to you too, Mr Anonymous," she replies. "How are you feeling this morning?"
  16. "Better than last night, at least my headaches mostly gone now so I can think straight."
  17. "That is good to hear." She pauses for a moment "I have quite a few questions for you, Anonymous. I am highly interested in how you came to be in my garden, and more so of who and what you are." She takes little time to get straight to the point, although to be honest you would rather it be that way, as you also had burning questions for her.
  18. "but first," she continued, "Are you feeling well enough to have a walk around? I find it helps a lot to allow somepony to loosen up and relieve some tension. I gather that you are more so tense than I about this whole situation."
  19. She had a point, and after laying in this bed for god knows how long, and feeling physically much better than last night, you think it would be a good idea, so you just nodded after a moments thought, then made a move to get out of the bed.
  20. Well, at least I can also get to see more of this place. You also thought, as you began to stand up. After fully standing up, the first thing you noticed was that you towered above everyone in the room, even Celestia, who was about a head shorter than yourself. You were used to feeling tall around people, being six foot two, but this was ridiculous! You began to wonder whether you would fit through doors, as this place was obviously not made for humans.
  21. Celestia began to walk towards the main door, beckoning you to follow her with a hoof, so you took a spot by her side, and walked out of the door (barely missing the door frame with your head).
  22. As soon as you both made it outside, Celestia turned to you, her eyebrow raised (which looked somewhat strange, seeing as her eyes were so big), and said; "So, Mr Anonymous"
  23. "You can just call me Anon," you said back, causing her to slightly nod her head
  24. "So, Anon, where are you from?"
  25. Expecting this, you already had a reply in mind. "I'm a human, from somewhere called Earth. More specifically the United States of America, if you want to know." You decided to say earth based on the fact that these miniature horses are obviously not from Earth, and so wouldn’t have a clue what you were on about if you just said the USA, even though your 99% sure they wouldn’t have a clue what Earth is either.
  26. "I see." She simply said, obviously thinking of her next question, but was interrupted when you asked her one of your own;
  27. "where is it that we are now, then, Princess?" Not the best wording ever, but it gets the point across.
  28. "We are currently in Canterlot castle, which is the capital city of Equestria."
  29. You couldn’t help but think that the name Canterlot sounded quite a bit like Camelot, from the legend of king Arthur and the nights of the round table. That thought was quickly pushed out of your mind when another question came to mind:
  30. "Princess, if you are the ruler of Equestria, and this is (you guessed) your castle, then why are you trusting me so much to allow me to walk around with you without a guard or anything?"
  31. The Princess replied with a slight giggle, saying; "Anon, the first time I saw you, you passed out, and had to be taken into the hospital wing. In addition, as ruler of Equestria, I posses some of the most powerful magic known to ponykind, meaning I could easily apprehend you if I thought you were a significant threat."
  32. You just stared at her blankly after she had finished. Did she just say 'magic'?
  33. After staring at her like this for a good few seconds, you finally blurt out; "Magic???"
  34. She must have quickly realised that you didn’t know about magic, because after a second or two, she did something that made you jump back a bit: her horn suddenly started to glow with a goldish tint, and just a couple of feet away, a chair, also enveloped in the gold glow, rose up into the air. You stared wide-eyed at both her and the chair, even after she put the chair down after a few seconds.
  35. Celestia lightly giggled again, turning back to face you and your face of amazement. "That was magic. It was only a simple levitation spell, but it gets the point across. I assume that you do not have magic where you come from, Anon."
  36. You shook your head, breaking yourself out of your reverie. "Well, I wouldn’t say that we don’t, however the magic where I come from is just a load of tricks to make you thing it's magic, like pulling a rabbit out of a top hat. It's just an act for entertainment."
  37. The Princess looked somewhat amused, asking: "Why would anypony put a rabbit in a top hat? It seems like a silly and somewhat cruel thing to do."
  38. "Yea, I agree, but hay, it's entertainment, people like anything out of the ordinary."
  39. Celestia looks at you funny as you say 'people'.
  40. "What are 'people'?" She asks, causing you to realise that she wont know due to obvious cultural differences.
  41. "'people' is just a general term used to describe my race." She nods understandingly. "Hey, that just made me think. What exactly are you? I know you keep saying everypony, so I can only guess that you rule a race of ponies, but ponies don’t have a horn."
  42. Although the question may have sounded slightly insulting, Celestia answered it as normally as she had answered any question. "I am what is called an alicorn. I am, for want of a better analogy, a cross between all the other types of pony in Equestria, those being unicorns," she points to her horn, "pegasi," she unfurls her wings, which, until just now, you hadn't noticed, "and earth ponies. There are only three alicorns in Equestria, two of those being myself and my sister Luna, and the third being my niece Princess Cadence, who is ruler over the crystal empire to the north."
  43. You just walk along, taking in all of the information that is being said, thinking how similar these creatures sound to ancient mythological creatures from legends back on Earth.
  44. For the first time on your walk, you notice other ponies, and realise that every single one you see is staring at you with expressions conveying a mix of confusion, interest, and another expression that you cant quite place. The majority of ponies that you see appear to be wearing armor modified to fit a pony, and excluding the arm and leg sections. Man, this place is weird, and for some reason a lot of this looks familiar, or is in some way relatable to something from Earth.
  45.
  46. About an hour later
  47.
  48. After a very long but interesting conversation, and an equally as interesting walk, you and Celestia arrive at what looks like a large dining room, with a large round table and at least 10 chairs in the centre of the room. The walls were lined with windows, allowing a large portion of the mid-day sun to shine in the room. There was also a very large chandelier hanging over the table, and a fair few doors other than the main door you just walked through were dotted around the room's walls below the windows.
  49. After walking over to what looked like the main seat at the table, Celestia offers you a chair next to her, indicating to it with a wave of her head. "Would you like some lunch, Anon? You must be quite hungry after such a long night, and waking up late. You never even had breakfast."
  50. "Yea, some lunch does sound nice, thanks. And anyway, we know that I didn’t have breakfast because you had no idea what I ate." Your first comment was punctuated with a rumble coming from your stomach as you took your seat next to Celestia.
  51. "Does a simple sandwich sound alright to you, Anon? I'm just going to have a daffodil and daisy sandwich myself." She didn’t offer you a flower in a sandwich because she knows that you generally don’t eat everyday flowers.
  52. "Sounds fine, I guess ill just have a cheese sandwich, if that’s alright Princess." You still weren't sure if these ponies had cheese or not so you decided to be as polite in asking as possible.
  53. "Of course, Anon, I'll just get the chefs to whip us up those then." She turned around to the (yet again, what you assumed to be) waitress pony standing next to a door off to the right of the room, and told the mare what we wanted.
  54. As Celestia turned back round to me, she said; "Oh and Anon, you don’t need to keep referring to me as Princess, Celestia is perfectly fine."
  55. You nodded, as you heard another door open on the left side of the room, and in walked a tall (not quite as tall as Celestia), dark blue pony, who was wearing black regalia as opposed to Celestia who was wearing gold, and who also had a flowing blue mane, similar to Celestia's. Judging by what Celestia had told you, this must be Princess Luna.
  56. With her head slightly down and her eyes focused on the floor, the pony failed to notice you sitting at the table next to her sister, so she just trotted slowly over to the chair the opposite side of Celestia, and sat down upon it.
  57. After she did sit down, she finally looked up, and nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw you sitting there staring at her. In some ways it was adorable, as her reaction made her kind of look like a cat, as she leaped out of her chair, standing in a defensive pose on the floor next to it, with her wings fully spread out, and her back somewhat arched.
  58. "Sister, what is that?!"
  59. That was certainly the funniest reaction you have gotten out of someone since you arrived here, and it caused you to slightly giggle.
  60. Celestia, looking a little annoyed at Luna's reaction, said to her sister; "This is Anonymous, he is a human from a place called Earth. He is our guest."
  61. After a couple of seconds, Luna regained her composure, and her wings folded back against her sides. "we art sorry, Anonymous, we were not aware that our sister was entertaining a guest." She turned to Celestia. "Shall we leave to allow you two to discuss your business in peace?"
  62. Celestia simply smiled. "Nonsense, Luna, you are quite welcome to join us for lunch, even though it wont exactly be lunch for you." Celestia then frowned. "Speaking of which, why are you up at this time? It's the middle of the 'night' for you, you should be resting for tonight."
  63. Luna just sighed as she sat back down. "We were finishing an excess amount of paperwork regarding our night court. It has been very busy of late, and we have been struggling to get all of the paperwork completed on time."
  64. Celestia nodded her agreement, stating "Indeed, sister, the court has been busy as of late, I had a very busy day myself yesterday, so, for that reason, and Anonymous here, I decided to take today off. They can manage without me for one day."
  65. It was at this point that Luna turns to face you. "Ah, yes, we forgot to introduce ourself, although we art sure that Tia has told thee of us. We are Princess Luna, ruler of the night, though thou can call us Luna if thou prefer. We art pleased to meet thee."
  66. "I'm pleased to meet you to, Luna." You say, another question coming to mind; "can I just ask; why do you speak in old English like you're from Shakespeare's time? Also, why do you use 'we' instead of 'I'?"
  67. Luna's face somewhat contorted into a frown. "It is a long story, Anonymous. We just have not yet got used to the modern way of speaking. Also, who is Shakespeare?"
  68. Somewhat unsatisfied with her answer, but unwilling to push the matter further, you just decide to answer her question. "He's a very old play writer from Earth. Back in those days, the majority of people who lived in England spoke similarly to how you do, just without the 'we'."
  69. Luna just nodded in acknowledgement, clearly not wanting to continue with this line of conversation. Celestia broke the silence after a few moments. "Luna, do you wish to order any food? I'm sure the chefs can whip you up something light to come out when our food does."
  70. "we may as well, we are pretty hungry after doing all of this paperwork for hours on end." With that, Luna got up and slowly made her way towards the door with the waitress outside (she had returned to her spot after going through the door to place your and Celestia's food orders), and she just told the waitress what she wanted.
  71. While she was doing that, you turn to Celestia, a slightly nervous look on your face. "is she okay? It seems like something's bothering her…"
  72. "she's fine, she has been working awfully hard as of late, and she isn't the best at talking to ponies face to face, especially strangers, and with someone such as yourself just 'appearing', she is probably just a little confused how to act. She'll be fine when she realises that you are quite a nice 'person'."
  73. You just nodded at the complement and Celestia's explanation, but something still told you that she was bothered by something else other than yourself. But, either way, you decide to push the thought to the back of your mind as Luna gets back to the table and takes her seat again.
  74. After another minute or so of awkward silence between the three of you, Celestia, yet again, breaks it. "I bet my student twilight would love to meet you, Anon, she could learn so much from you. She would keep you up all night every night for a month just asking you questions, and writing down every piece of information you give." She says, trying to lighten the mood, and letting out a light chuckle.
  75. You reply by giving her an inquisitive look, wondering who Twilight is, and then look to Luna, who was also sporting a slight smile.
  76. "Those series of notes would make for an interesting read." Luna finally says, letting lose a little giggle.
  77. Well, even though I have no clue what they're on about, at least it seemed to make Luna happier. You thought, suddenly wondering why you were so interested in Luna being happy, when you yourself had much greater problems to deal with. Yet again, you just decide to shove that thought from your mind, not really wanting to think about Earth and how you got here now.
  78. Think of this like a holiday, a very weird holiday that has talking pastel colored ponies, with an end that is as of yet undetermined. With that thought in mind, you return your attention back to the two princesses, with a slight smile on your face.
  79. After making meaningless small talk for five or so minutes, the waitress comes over, with a tray of food balanced on one hoof as she walks on the other three. How does she do that? Wouldn’t she fall over?
  80. The waitress puts our correct food in front of each of us, then moves back over to the door, sliding the tray through a gap in the door, then closes said door.
  81. Celestia, taking a bite out of her sandwich, hums in delight, as Luna simply picks up part of her salad in her magic. After somewhat cautiously eyeing your sandwich, you pick it up and take a bite out of it. The taste was almost exactly as you expected, although you may have expected different, as these ponies may have a different idea of what a cheese sandwich is compared to humans, as we weren't exactly on Earth.
  82. For the better part of another five minutes, the three of you just sat and ate, not really paying much attention to eachother. Luna finished before yourself and Celestia, as she only had a small salad compared to the two sandwiches each that you two had. As you both continued to eat Luna just sat there. She looked tired, and it looked like she was going to fall asleep at the table.
  83. After swallowing the last bit of her sandwich, Celestia spoke up. "Luna, you should really go to bed, you look awfully tired. Maybe even have a lay in tomorrow, take the day off. You have been working awfully hard these last few days."
  84. Luna looked over to Celestia, with a slightly thankful look on her face.
  85. "We thank thee, sister, we shall rest up, and enjoy a night off." With that, Luna slowly got up out of her chair, and then turned towards you. "It was a pleasure meeting thee, Anonymous, we look forward to seeing you again soon."
  86. With that, Luna turned tail, and trotted slowly out of the room, back through the door she originally came through.
  87. After a few moments of awkward silence, Celestia turned back to you after Luna was gone. "I think she likes you, Anon." Was all she said.
  88. "how can you tell, we barely spoke." Was your simple reply.
  89. Celestia just smiled at you. "Luna is my younger sister, I have known her since she was just a little filly. I can tell when she likes or dislikes somepony, even if they aren't a pony. And I think that is why she likes you; she can somewhat relate to you, as you are the only one of your kind now here in Equestria."
  90. That, somehow made sense to you, despite not knowing a great deal about her. You were going to say something about how you hoped to be out of this place as soon as possible, but thought better of it.
  91. So, after finishing up in the dining room, you and Celestia make your exit out the door you both came through, just as Luna did. After having that very long, and sometimes deep conversation with Celestia, the air around you two was no longer as tense, and the mood was somewhat lighter.
  92. "So, what now?" you decide to ask after a minute or so of wandering in a still unknown to you direction.
  93. "Well, I'm afraid that, even though it is my day off, I do still have a couple of things to attend to, so we are going to make our way back to the hospital wing, so the good doctor can make a more thorough examination of yourself." You try not show the faintest bit of sadness, but it seems Celestia is all too good at reading people's (or ponies) feelings (after being alive for thousands of years, you would tend to develop that kind of ability). After seeing said look, Celestia just smiled. "Do not worry, this will only take a couple of hours. I shall be back to check up on you after. If you wish, we could continue your tour of the castle as well."
  94. For some reason, the idea of being shown around more of this castle excited you more than it should have. It may have just been the fact that you wanted to spend as little time in the hospital as possible. You’ve never really liked them, even back on earth. But, you guess for now you will have to put up with this very odd hospital, hoping that the time will pass quickly.
  95.
  96. Meanwhile, in Princess Luna's bedchambers
  97.
  98. Princess Luna paced her bedroom, nearly wearing a hole in the floor. She had been simply too confused over the past hour or so, and ever since she arrived back at her bedroom, she had been pacing the room, thinking to herself, and trying to make sense of this situation she was now in.
  99. Who and what is that creature, in relation to ponykind? Even though sister told us that he was a 'human', that still makes no sense to us. How does he know the equestrian language? Why did we act so weird when we first saw him? We've seen stranger creatures before.
  100. All of these questions and many more were pouring through Luna's head. She needed to find out more information.
  101. We have the day off tomorrow, maybe we should use it to find out more about this 'Anonymous', and possibly make sense of this whole thing. Yes, that is what we shall do. We shall find Anonymous tomorrow, and find out everything about him.
  102. Despite Luna's plans for the following day, she still wasn’t completely at ease. She didn’t know why, but for some reason she liked Anonymous, even though she knew next to nothing about him, or what he was.
  103. She finally decided to halt the pacing (a good thing too, otherwise the room may have been an inch taller), and head to bed.
  104. Yes. We shall find out more tomorrow. We will need to make sure to get up closer to the time when he will so we can go and see him.
  105. And with that last thought, she took off her regalia, put her crown on her bedside table, and got into bed.
  106. We shall freshen up in the morning, we are just too tired at the moment.
  107.
  108. Back in the hospital wing, a few hours later
  109.
  110. You laid there in the hospital bed, in a significantly worse mood than when you entered a few hours previously. Your arm was numb, your headache was starting to return, and you had a nurse pony standing at your bedside holding a thermometer in your mouth.
  111. This was by far not what you had expected when the Princess said about a 'more thorough examination'. These ponies seemed to have very similar medical practises to earth (although maybe a few years older than current practices), and unfortunately that meant needles. Within the last two hours, in excess of 6 needles must have been jabbed into your arm, causing it to sting like hell, and now eventually go numb. They had even taken a sample of your blood for analysis. Normally you were fine with needles, but when you have 6 or more being jabbed into your arm within the space of a couple of hours, your hate for them increases tenfold.
  112. So, it's no surprise to you that when the main doors opened, revealing a reasonably happy-looking Celestia, you near jumped for joy, as it meant a reprieve from these persistent doctor and nurse ponies.
  113. "Hello again, Anon, how is the examination coming along?"
  114. You give Celestia a look that just conveyed 'seriously?'. "I cant feel my arm anymore, thanks to the doctor" you give the doctor who was examining a clipboard at the foot of your bed an annoyed look, "jabbing fuck knows how many needles in my arm, and taking what feels like a gallon of blood for analysis."
  115. Celestia looked unfazed by your little rant, simply continuing to smile. "Well, it sounds like you had lots of fun. Would you like to continue with our tour then? There is something I would like to show you."
  116. You practically rip the thermometer out of your mouth, getting an annoyed look from the nurse, and jump out the side of your bed.
  117. "I thought you'd never ask. I've had enough of this weird-ass hospital place." You say as you then start walking as fast as you can towards the door.
  118. Shaking her head a little, but smiling nonetheless, Celestia follows you towards the door, at a slightly slower pace. She turns back to the doctor just before she reaches the door, saying: "Inform me if you find anything, okay?"
  119. "Of course, Princess" was the doctors reply. Ever the polite ones are doctors.
  120. As you two make your way out the door, you turn to Celestia, asking "So, Princess, what are you going to show me now?" perhaps you have a bit too much enthusiasm right now, but you may as well make the best of the situation with as much of a positive attitude as possible. That wasn’t too hard, as you were generally a positive guy.
  121. "Well, I think first I should show you the main thing I wanted to show you."
  122. "What is it then?" you ask with genuine curiosity.
  123. "You'll see."
  124. You’ve always hated surprises, and to be honest this surprise was killing you more than any you’ve had back on earth. For the next five minutes, Celestia's and your walk was filled with you asking questions constantly about where you were heading.
  125. After ten minutes of walking, after you had gotten fed up of getting no answers, you arrive at what looks like a very large tower, possibly one of the main towers in the castle. Celestia opens the main door into the tower (which was outside), and you both step inside. You give her a confused look, and the smile that has been on her face the whole time only widens.
  126. "Seeing as you wont be going back home any time soon, and as you appear to be a genuinely decent 'person', and being my guest now, I have decided to give you temporary living quarters in the castle. I'm sure this would be more suitable than spending your whole time in the hospital, and especially seeing as you are not exactly injured."
  127. Even after only being here for just over a day, you must have made such a good impression for the Princess to do this for you in this short of a time. Either that or this race of ponies was simply that generous and trusting. But either way, you were extremely happy about this. At least you wouldn’t now be spending the rest of your time here in a hospital bed being prodded, poked and jabbed with needles. Despite your happiness about the situation, all you could say to Celestia was a simple "Thanks a lot", with the most genuine smile you’ve had since you got here.
  128. "You're welcome, Anon. feel free to have a look around, this is your room now."
  129. The room itself was a large circular room with a four-poster bed on one side, a door on the opposite side which looked like it led to a bathroom, and a very large window on the opposite side to the front door. You decide to approach the window, taking a look outside. You could see a good portion of the castle, and what looked like a town beyond the castle walls. The sun was getting low over the horizon, creating a brilliant red glow, and indicating night was fast approaching.
  130. You couldn’t resist asking Celestia the main question on the forefront of your mind; "Why are you giving me such an amazing place to stay? I've been here a day, and you're willingly giving me what must be the equivalent to a five-star hotel room?"
  131. Celestia, probably already knowing that you were going to ask that, replied quickly; "we ponies are a generous race, and we value friendship above almost anything else. Where you came from may be different, but we have survived much living how we do, and we are very happy about it. You are also a guest here, and I can sympathise with your situation, and can tell that you are in need, and in need of a friend to help you in your time of need. I am offering to be that friend, and as ruler of Equestria, I can possibly help you the most. I also do like you, Anon. I wouldn’t be so willing if I didn’t."
  132. You took a few moments to drink in all of what Celestia had said. It somehow baffled you, but made sense at the same time. She considered you a friend. Just that thought made dealing with being here a million times easier, even though after understanding a little bit of the culture you found that this place was essentially an ideal version of earth, where peace reigned, and war and hatred and all the things that made earth horrible were almost non-existent. This was the perfect world, just with ponies instead of humans.
  133. "I… I cant thank you enough, Celestia. If it means anything, and I can only assume it does, I would consider you a friend as well." You never realised you could be this sappy. You couldn’t even understand how those words came out of your mouth so easily. Perhaps Celestia was having more of an effect on you than you realised, but despite thinking that, you felt that you weren't going to be judged on what you said, only considered a much better person.
  134. "You are most welcome, yet again, Anon. it means a lot to me that you consider me a friend as well."
  135. The two of you just stood there in silence for a couple of minutes, each thinking over what was just said. Finally, you decide to say; "Would it be okay if we postponed my your for another day, I am awfully tired, and would also like to take a nice long shower. I haven't had one since I got here." You laugh sheepishly,
  136. "Of course. If you need anything, just come and ask, and if you don’t know where I am just ask any one of the castle staff and they will point you in the right direction. I shall inform my whole staff about you so they wont get any surprises when they see you. Have a good night."
  137. "You too, Celestia, ill see you tomorrow."
  138. And with that she walks out the door, closing it behind her, leaving you alone in what was now your tower to explore, have a shower, and have a much needed normal nights sleep, regardless of the fact it was only around 7 o'clock in the evening.
