  1. And when Thorgeir set to rowing again, the oars were so worn out that Grettir shattered them to pieces on the gun-wales. Thormod said that it was better to row less than to break things. Grettir grabbed two planks, which were there in the ship, and, punching holes through the ship's side, he rowed so strongly that every timber in the boat groaned. Because it was a good ship and the men somewhat fit, they finally reached Hvalshausholm.
