  1. Kith Name: Divir (Deh-VEER)
  2. Nicknames: Crawlers, Web-weavers, Lore-Junkies
  3.
  4. Quote: "Yes, I can tell you about them. No, I won't tell anyone you came asking. I appreciate my clients and treat their business with discretion, so long as they return the favor."
  5.
  6. Description: The Divir were originally drawn from the dreams of ambitious seekers of secret knowledge, spymasters and lorekeepers. Their webs bind the knowledge of ages together, or so they would have you believe. Knowledge is the true power in the world, and those who recognize and covet it appropriately will always hold power, no matter how society may change throughout the ages.
  7.
  8. In the academic pursuits, there are two kinds of scholars. Those who pursue knowledge to further a goal, and those who seek it for its own sake, simply to know they have collected a tidbit that others haven't, assembled a piece of a grander puzzle. The Divir fall into the former camp more often than not, as their knowledge is often one of their best survival traits. Many fae, before and after the Shattering, have been repulsed by their bestial nature. Only their skill at seeking information (And a distinct penchant for courtesy) has kept them alive.
  9.
  10. While never commonplace before the Shattering, only a handful were able to secure passage to Arcadia with their Sidhe handlers. Of great interest to the rest of their kind is the fact that when the various Sidhe houses returned, not a single Divir accompanied them. For now at least, the Sidhe aren't saying anything on the topic.
  11.
  12. Divir had a mild surge in their population during the Cold War, but since then, their numbers have remained small and stable. They will never be one of the major, well-known kiths, and for that they are thankful. After all, if everyone knew what they were, they'd never be able to get any work done.
  13.
  14. Appearance: Divir in their fae mien have the lower body of a furred tarantula, the colorations of which vary from dull browns and grays to matte black or vibrant blues and greens. Their upper body, from around the waist upwards, is distinctly humanoid, typically slender and graceful. Their ears have the so-called 'elf' points, and their hair tends to be long and straight, often with a glamorous, silken gleam. In the fae realm, their upper body is often attired in a voile of a more uniform nature. Often the service industries, sometimes that of a military adjutant, but always immaculate and neat.
  15.
  16. In their mortal guise, they tend to dress in drab outfits, designed to turn attention away from themselves, at least under normal circumstances. Their mortal bodies are almost never what one would call 'heavy', they tend towards the tall, lightweight physiques.
  17.
  18. Lifestyles: Divir can be found anywhere information flows or is sought. Librarians, scholars, archeologists, even hackers and informants. They prefer to remain in one city for an extended period of time, to best become familiar with events there. However, if they do decide to switch to a new city, they will often seek out other Divir (If any happen to live there) and compare notes. While no self-respecting Divir will simply hand over their most sensitive information (At least, not for a reasonable price...) they'll usually help get a new Divir situated and help them find a (non-competing) position in the city hierarchy.
  19.
  20. Divir tend to live in as comfortable an abode as they can afford, and prefer fewer people around if possible, unless their work or duties demand otherwise. In the Dreaming, their homes become filled with webs and chimerical spiders, which bothers them not at all.
  21.
  22. Childlings: A Divir Childling is driven by insatiable curiousity, and at this tender age, that curiousity will often outweigh all other desires, and cause them to forget the value of prudence and caution. They tend to focus on personally investigating whatever attracts their interest, scuttling all over the city or town they call home until they've found the juicy secrets they so crave.
  23.
  24. Wilders: By the time a Divir reaches the Wildling stage, it's often after several nearly terminal encounters brought on by their earlier excursions. By now, they've either learned to be skilled enough at their trade to not be in significant danger when exploring alone, or else they embed themselves in an active motley and take careful notes of all they encounter, attempting to gently guide the motley to investigate the things they find most worthwhile in the city. They may also seek political advancement in various Houses, to be on the inside track.
  25.
  26. Grumps: As a Grump, a Divir rarely travels or adventures except under duress. They prefer to enjoy the fruits of their labors, lounging in opulent webs and plucking at strings across the city to watch other kiths scatter or rally whenever the Divir lets just the right bit of news circulate through the masses. A Divir at this age tends to experience something of a plateau of ambition, seeking only to keep themselves a few steps ahead of the competition.
  27.
  28. Affinity: Fae
  29.
  30. Revelry: Divir garner Glamour from those who seek out and piece together knowledge. This can range from historians, genealogists and archeologists to more modern conspiracy theorists or journalists, to name a few possibilities. As the Dreamer tries to put the various pieces together, the Divir feasts.
  31.
  32. Unleashing: Divir Unleash with the speed of a predator, and their aura is downright oppressive and paralyzing. A Seelie Divir might simply exude a quiet menace, but the Unseelie cause webs to manifest out of pure Glamour, filling their environment with a thick, cloying air.
  33.
  34. Birthrights:
  35. (Arachnid Grace): Divir begin the game with one additional dot of Dexterity, even if this brings the attribute above 5. Their Dexterity has a natural capacity of 6, and can be trained to this maximum later with experience. Divir are also able to scale walls and ceilings much as a spider would, thouh they move at half speed.
  36. (Web-Weaver): Divir are able to spin webs much like their smaller cousins, though these remain chimerical unless the Divir activates their Wyrd. Their webs have a strength rating(of 2) and an armor rating (of 2) for every three dots of permanent Glamour possessed by the Divir. Webs must be used with a Dexterity+Athletics roll unless they are placed in advance.
  37.
  38. Frailty: The Divir that remained in the Autumn World have become staunch supporters of the establishment, such as it is. Though they like to maintain the image of being aloof and indifferent to the demands of others, they suffer a +2 difficulty penalty to resist the command of any Sidhe of higher rank than themselves. Divir with significant title are rare, so this tends to be a significant hindrance.
  39.
  40. Stereotypes:
  41. (Boggan): "Such good hosts. They try so hard to make it seem like they're -not- inviting us to get the latest gossip...it's sweet, really."
  42. (Clurichaun): "Braggarts and rabble-rousers. You don't need to be a genius to know where they go, trouble will surely follow."
  43. (Eshu): "The 'information' you get from them is often old and seemingly irrelevant, but a discerning ear knows better."
  44. (Merfolk): "Webs don't weave well underwater, and they remain a rare sight on the surface. We don't cross paths much."
  45. (Nocker): "Great at making whatever you need, and then complaining about how it won't meet expectations. Usually, they're wrong. ...Usually."
  46. (Piskie): "For some reason, whenever I invite them into my parlor for tea, they turn ghost-white and start babbling excuses."
  47. (Pooka): "I'm reminded of a saying. 'Even a broken clock is right twice a day'. In the case of the Pooka, don't believe it."
  48. (Redcap): "Their appetite is as intense as ours, just not as clearly focused. Best not to aggravate them."
  49. (Satyr): "Their parties are usually a bit too loud for my tastes, but I can enjoy the free-flowing gossip that follows in the wake of their loosened inhibitions."
  50. (Selkie): "Their secrets are costly, one way or another. It's often not worth the effort."
  51. (Arcadian Sidhe): "Our long-awaited masters have returned to show us the error of our ways...lovely. I'll be standing over here while you lot sharpen those knives..."
  52. (Autumn Sidhe): "House Liam and Scathatch are among our best clients, and at least a few Divir have entered their ranks in recent years."
  53. (Sluagh): "Ah, our pallid, raven-haired cousins. We do enjoy having a quiet spot of tea with them. Polite, respectable...what more could you ask for?"
  54. (Troll): "There's one in every crowd...someone who thinks they know everything and won't hear otherwise. Let them have their delusions."
