      Good afternoon chairman, honorable adjudicators, dear opponents, ladies and gentlemen. Today’s motion for our debate is ‘Single-sex schools are better than mixed sex schools.’ Before we begin, please allow us to define the motion. ‘Single-sex schools’ means schools with only male or female students attending it while ‘mixed sex schools’ means schools with male or female students educated together. Our team believes that single-sex schools are better than mixed sex schools due to the following reasons below:
      1. Firstly, single-sex schools can break down gender stereotypes. Boys are often good at logical thinking, while girls are good at language and literature. For example, girls can have less pressure to compete with boys in male-dominated subjects (like Maths).
      2. Secondly, students in mixed sex schools might have crushes on classmates of the opposite gender, especially in puberty. That can easily affect their studies and academic results, since they would spend more time for love affairs and use less time in studying. Most of all, the students’ emotions would be easily affected when the couples break up.It is  unhealthy for them. Single-sex schools can prevent this from happening and make students focus on their studies.
      Due to these reasons, our team thinks that today’s motion should stand. Thank you.
