  1. I'm on the fence about it by my reasoning would probably be disregarded.
  2. I thought about it and I don't think that people should receive stat points for story telling. Why should they? Points sure, but giving away stat points when the reality is they didn't actually do anything to earn them just seems silly.
  3. Especially if the plot has nothing to do with the story teller (which they don't)

  5. That was PR's initial concern also. The issue is that storytelling is a common demand while also being a shitty job that no one wants to do - so we want a system to encourage it and make it worth people's time.
  6. The best incentive we have is stats. I think that's fair given how beneficial storytelling can be for the site & other members, and the draining effect it can have on motivation etc.
  7. If there are alternate incentives we can consider that would be great also - but I think stats are what will really appeal to people

  9. So because people are lazy (in a certain sense) and are unwilling to put forth the effort to help others advance their plots, they should be rewarded? What goes around comes around and eventually these same people will be looking for others to handle their plot lines. I still say it should remain at just points.
  10. Story-telling is a process that could help improve one's own writing if they didn't take up the outlook of "this is a shitty job" as you put it valk. That in end of itself is a much better reward than anyone on the site could ask for - you're getting the chance to flesh out your writing and getting paid in points you can spend to do it.
  11. Valkier - Today at 5:59 AM
  12. It's not always laziness. E.g. some people simply doesn't have time to write many topics - so it's entirely reasonable that they don't want to abandon writing their own chars in order to storytell for someone else.
  13. Strategist - Today at 6:00 AM
  14. Story telling is optional. If someone doesn't have the time, they need only not put themselves out there to be a story teller
  15. Valkier - Today at 6:01 AM
  16. Which is what happens now. Lots of people have been asking for one, and no one is willing to do it
  17. In a perfect world yes I agree, it would be great if they all do it for each other
  18. Strategist - Today at 6:01 AM
  19. Speaking for myself, I'd be willing to help anyone in need.
  20. I'm sure there are others as well.

  22. on top of incentives we should make storytellers less of a necessity
  23. like by making companions able to be obtained through means other than pbs
  24. Strategist - Today at 6:04 AM
  25. Plot boards are just a stream line of social threads.
  26. The idea of plotboards was meant to keep track of specific story lines so I'd say that the way it's set up now works fine.
  27. Since that's pretty specific of a topic.
  28. However, dialing back the notch on where a Story-teller might be needed isn't a bad idea for the time being.
  29. I just don't agree with the incentives.
  30. The main reason behind story-tellers (to my understanding) is to prevent writers from just blitzing through chapters with no real resolution
  31. In the case of obtaining companions specifically, the conflict should be handled by a Story-teller, whereas the resolution would be discussed prior to the start of the chapter so that it equates to plot advancement in some way beyond "oh I got this new thing"
  32. It might be good to bring this up at a later time when other admins are present to weigh in though. So for now, I'll rest my case.
  33. Kabu - Today at 6:13 AM
  34. no, a storyteller's main purpose is to make sure that the plot stays in line with the world and to provide a challenge where needed
  35. which is why most high ranking pbs should be storytold
  36. which is why we need a good incentive
  37. Strategist - Today at 6:26 AM
  38. Sounds very minimalist. High ranking story arcs aren't the only plots that may warrant a story teller. You already have a good incentive - you're being paid in points to spend on whatever you like and according to the story-telling guidelines, it's a pretty hefty amount at that.
  39. I might be wrong, but it sounds like the reason for pushing so heavy for "Stats" is because people are too lazy to write out stat trainings (Something I've noticed a lot since I came to Saigen). I still believe you shouldn't be paid more for doing less work. We've already established S.T as optional which means no one HAS to do it. So if you do agree to be a S.T you're agreeing to the guidelines set forth already. Why ask for more?
  40. Valkier - Today at 6:45 AM
  41. No it's because points are a rubbish reward lol. Most people already have way more than they know what to do with, and they're easy to earn. Stats are much more desirable as it equals direct growth of a char
  42. Strategist - Today at 6:52 AM
  43. Stats are much more desirable as it equals direct growth of a char <----The whole point. Why are you being given stat points for a character that is not involved in any way, shape or form with the plot being narrated? Points are enough. You can spend the points gained on a wide plethora of things and if you have too much points - donate them to someone who could use them.
  44. Still not sold on the incentive change.
  45. Hayate - Today at 6:54 AM
  46. Alright.
  47. You should never be rewarded in stats, the prime measurement for character development on our board, for something that DOES NOT develop your character.
  48. If you want a story teller, you should story tell for someone else.
  49. Trading is good.
  50. Yes, it would motivate people to Story Tell.
  51. But that's not the point. You guys are completely missing the rationale of game development/design in how rewards should be given.
  52. You don't want to ever have rewards for behaviour you DON'T want
  53. I.E. You don't want people to just story tell and do things w/o their character.
  54. We want people to play their characters, that's the No. 1 goal. And we want them to do it with other characters.
  55. Whenever you put a reward on something outside of that, you're reinforcing that bad behaviour.
  56. Same reason why this lonely shit is fucking ridiculous
  57. This all stems from a group of players being unhappy about leveling speed.
  58. And since those original arguements, all I've seen is more ways to easily gain stats being discussed.
  59. We narrowed down that this current system is a little bit slower than the last. That's fine. Rather than adding more, easier ways that reinforce bad behaviour we should just... address the system.
  60. Finding people to RP with on an RP forum is just part of being on a multi-player, RP forum.
  61. 💯1
  62. Hayate - Today at 7:01 AM
  63. By the way, this also effectively lowers that amount of work by a lot.
