  95. ok listen:
  96. when you rebase onto master, that's great
  97. but if someone pushes a new commit to master, your feature branch is now *not up to date*
  98. you *keep it up to date* by continually rebasing onto master whenever new commits are added
  99. you cannot just rebase once and expect it to work. you must be rebased onto *the latest version of master*
  100. Sakib
  101. ohhhhh
  102.
  103. Kyle
  104. the -ff-only flag is just protection in case someone (i.e. jungsoo) has pushed something to master
  105. that process i showed you should be done EVERY TIME you try to add your stuff to master
  106. like it must be done exactly in sequence
  107. you cannot just rebase once 10 commits ago and expect it to work
  108. so let's revise it to be this
  109. 1. $ git checkout master
  110. 2. $ git pull origin master
  111. 3. $ git checkout feature
  112. 4. $ git rebase --interactive master
  113. 5. $ git checkout master
  114. 6. $ git merge feature
  115. the -ff-only flag is technically not needed because it should be a fast-forward if done correctly
  116. jungsoo seems to think that he only has to rebase once and it's forever ok
  117. except his feature branches like copy-to-clipboard are like 2349823094823 commits behind
