Instructions for DIAL-UP (LAND-LINE) Internet connection

Contact via dial-up to volunteers provider of Internet access
Note: These instructions are for the user to connect to the Internet

Step 1: Get your equipment together
You will need:
A computer with a 56K modem
In most cases, there is already a modem in your computer. If you want to check on the Windows right-click-click My Computer, choose Manage> Device Manager> Modems. If something is listed under modems, is what you need. You may need to update the driver by clicking the right mouse button and choose to update the modem driver.
A landline phone service (the old fashioned telephone line with a cord to the wall)
You do not need to have a dial-up Internet account presented at all - will volunteer Internet provider (see below) ISP (Internet Service Provider).
Telephone line with small connectors that look like a LAN connection, only smaller, connect your computer to the telephone box.

Step 2: Follow the instructions in the http://www.dialup4less.com/dialupsupport.html
Look for your operating system and select the tutorial.
    Note: Be sure to locate and copy all of these instructions and lessons before embarking on the action! You will not be able to get them when the internet goes down, so print them and put them in a safe place!
It should follow the instructions in the tutorial exactly with the exception of:
ISP Name is whatever you want (for example Telecomix to the Internet via the phone)
Telephone number will be chosen from the list of available numbers
Will be one user name listed with the number you are using
The one password listed with the number you are using

    Note: These lists will be too difficult or impossible to access without the Internet, so keep an updated version available if you turn off the Internet in your area.

Step 3: Use the Internet as you normally do
Avoid using Internet Explorer! Use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome instead.
We expect pages to load much more slowly than usual, or not at all in some cases. You will probably not be able to see the video or news channels due to a slow connection. You should be able to see able to see the other pages, but will not take minutes instead of seconds to load up.

Use your cell phone as a modem

Step 1: What You Need
Device you want to be able to go online with (any laptop or PDA)
Cell phone is capable of data (ie, cell phone should be able to go online on their own).
Phone data plan from your wireless provider.
Either any restrictions in your contract to use your phone as a modem, or a separate additional data plan allows connectivity
Data cable to attach the phone to the computer

Step 2: rope your computer using the application

Step 1: Materials
