[18:29] <!Emilybroshoujo> Many of the creatures in Granda Lessil could be called beasts, but in this context the term refers to a specific group.
[18:30] <!Emilybroshoujo> The beasts in question are mostly mammal like showing features in common with everyday creatures.
[18:30] <!Emilybroshoujo> Hounds, bears, cats... but in Granda Lessil such mundane creatures could never survive.
[18:31] <!Emilybroshoujo> The beasts of Granda Lessil are split into several categories described below, this information is strictly for categorical purposes and we have no way of knowing if the creatures in question share a biological link.
[18:32] <!Emilybroshoujo> *PRIMAL BEASTS
[18:32] <!Emilybroshoujo> As though they're one with nature itself the primal beasts seem to exhibit traits similar to those of beings from other planes known as Elementals.
[18:33] <!Emilybroshoujo> Though in truth this elemental connection may be more incline with that of dragons, as the beasts themselves appear to still be flesh and bone... mostly.
[18:34] <!Emilybroshoujo> Among the primal beasts the example that first springs to mind is a creature dubbed by it's discoverer as "The King of the Mountain"
[18:34] <!Emilybroshoujo> The collossal lion-like monster is one of a kind as far as we've been able to prove.
[18:35] <!Emilybroshoujo> It's body is a shimmering silver and it's "mane" appears to be made from gemstones, though no one has survived attempting to bring a sample back for study.
[18:36] <!Emilybroshoujo> The 40ft creature dwells in a as of yet un-named stretch of mountain where it's been seen leaping from peak to peak, distances of several miles.
[18:36] <!Emilybroshoujo> It's roar has been determined to be the cause of numerous earthquakes and avalanches in the areas beneath these mountains.
[18:37] <!Emilybroshoujo> The King of the Mountain hunts the cloud drakes that inhabit the mountains in much the way a house cat might hunt pigeons.
[18:39] <!Emilybroshoujo> This hunting habit has been observed only once on record, the explorer who recorded his observations insists that the King of the Mountain must be capable of magical flight, for no living being could survive the acceleration required to propel such mass to such heights without the use of magic.
[18:41] <!Emilybroshoujo> *BEAST DRAKES
[18:42] <!Emilybroshoujo> Our research indicates that many of the Dragons of Granda Lessil are capable of reproducing with nearly any creature, research supported by the existence of the beast drakes.
[18:43] <!Emilybroshoujo> Dragon-like animals with wings or scales... but also fur and distinctly mammalian features.
[18:44] <!Emilybroshoujo> Beast drakes are more common than most species of dragons, but less common than ordinary drakes.
[18:45] <!Emilybroshoujo> It seems to be the case however that each beast drake is a unique creature, rather than a sub-species in it's own right.
[18:45] <!Emilybroshoujo> Common theory is that beast drakes are the abandoned offspring of dragons and "lesser" creatures.
[18:46] <!Emilybroshoujo> The beast drakes are as varied in their nature as dragons themselves, some even possessing the elemental nature of their draconic parent.
[18:47] <!Emilybroshoujo> One such creature encountered by researchers is the Stormhoof Drake, a creature appearing to be the brood of a blue dragon and an unknown horse like creature.
[18:48] <!Emilybroshoujo> It's elegant sapphire fur crackles with lightning and it's golden mane stands on end with the constant charge of elemental power.
[18:48] <!Emilybroshoujo> It has a horn, reminiscent of the unicorns of legends with which it directs it's thunderous fury.
[18:51] <!Emilybroshoujo> It's mighty hooves are capable of carrying it at alarming speeds, though this pales in comparison to the power of it's tremendous draconic wings capable of flight and aerial thrust using the beasts powerful equine chest muscles for thrust.
[18:53] <!Emilybroshoujo> The creature has taken residence in the wasteland outside a small mining colony, though it's presence is terrifying it seems docile and has yet to be known to prey on humans, though there is no record of it's eating habits.
[18:55] <!Emilybroshoujo> There has been some debate about including the beast drakes in the beastiary for Beasts or Dragons, obviously we have chosen the former, as the Dragons are the most varied creatures in the land already.
[19:01] <!Emilybroshoujo> *ARCANE BEASTS
[19:02] <!Emilybroshoujo> There is no other word to describe them.
[19:02] <!Emilybroshoujo> Animal-like creatures that exhibit unique magical qualities.
[19:03] <!Emilybroshoujo> The closest commonly known creature would be the Blink Dog, but in Granda Lessil such an animal is the norm.
[19:06] <!Emilybroshoujo> It is worth noting that the entries in this series of tomes are for the purposes of would be trappers and hunters, normal harmless wild life is not worthy of note.
[19:07] <!Emilybroshoujo> It is also worthy of note that what is "normal harmless wildlife" is quite relative.
[19:08] <!Emilybroshoujo> One of these magical beasts that does NOT fall into that category is the so called Gunwulf.
[19:09] <!Emilybroshoujo> Thsi creature is a wolf like beast, though much larger than a normal wolf.
[19:10] <!Emilybroshoujo> It's fur is a silver metallic sheen, it's eyes glow crimson red.
[19:10] <!Emilybroshoujo> The teeth and claws of the beast are a dull red further lending to it's hellish appearance.
[19:11] <!Emilybroshoujo> However the name of the creature comes from it's ability to unleash rapid fire blasts of flame from it's mouth nearly identical to a "Fireball" spell.
[19:11] <!Emilybroshoujo> So much so that mages have demonstrated the ability to counterspell it, thus classifying the Gunwulf as an Arcane Beast.
[19:14] <!Emilybroshoujo> Should one be encountered in the wild extreme caution must be used as the fury of an angry Gunwulf is quite something to behold.
[19:16] <!Emilybroshoujo> The rampage of the creature has been described as being on the wrong end of an artillery batallian.
[19:17] <!Emilybroshoujo> *ANCIENT BEASTS
[19:21] <!Emilybroshoujo> The Dire Beasts of more explored lands are almost common in Granda Lessil, but there is something far more terrifying.
[19:21] <!Emilybroshoujo> It is known that something about Granda Lessil sometimes causes power to surge within an otherwise ordinary creature.
[19:22] <!Emilybroshoujo> This power often manifests itself as a very very long life... the Ancient Beasts are unique creatures of immense power that have lived very long lives, growing in size and power all the while.
[19:22] <!Emilybroshoujo> There are seven of them known to exist.
[19:25] <!Emilybroshoujo> The one we will be detailing for you in this summary is known as Kingfin.
[19:26] <!Emilybroshoujo> The so called Greatsword Fish that are common on the coast of Granda Lessil are a pain for sailors and have been since the land was discovered.
[19:27] <!Emilybroshoujo> The fish can grow to be ten meters in length and their "swords" can cleanly pierce an iron hull.
[19:27] <!Emilybroshoujo> Kingfin is another problem entirely.
[19:28] <!Emilybroshoujo> A Greatsword Fish so ancient and massive that he cannot be called a fish at all.
[19:28] <!Emilybroshoujo> Kingfin is the size of a large warship, his might razor sharp fin has been seen to slice boats cleanly in half.
[19:31] <!Emilybroshoujo> His mighty "sword" is in itself the length of a fishing boat and even sea dragons have succumb to it.
[19:33] <!Emilybroshoujo> Each of the seven Ancient Beasts seems to be intelligent, though in the case of Kingfin he is either too large to notice us, or too ancient and powerful to care.
[19:34] <!Emilybroshoujo> Besides these four sub-types there are many other beasts that don't quite fall into any of these categories.
[19:37] <!Emilybroshoujo> Other categories may be added in the future when we better understand these powerful and varied animal-like creatures.
