  21. Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Unwise?
  22.
  23. I thought not. It's not a story the Sith would tell you.
  24.
  25. You see, there once was a force user, a Sith Lord, who was so skilled in misdirection and trickery that he convinced his apprentice he had unimaginable power. Even being able to save those he cared about from death. Of course, he failed to mention to his apprentice that he did not truly care about anyone, only craving power above all, putting into motion a plan to help destroy the Republic from within. A plan that his Apprentice, a genius in his own right, was able to shape and turn into something functional rather than a vague notion, something that could subvert the Republic and corrupt it for centuries to come. And, of course, all know the history behind that.
  26.
  27. But you see, there were certain... problems with Darth Plagueis. One was that he assumed - wrongly, of course - that he and his apprentice were the only Sith in the galaxy. Banenite heretics, you understand, who would only have a single master and single apprentice at a time. They were wrong, of course - there were thousands of dark side cults in all shapes and sizes, a handful of master-apprentice pairs who were likewise Banenite heretics.
  28.
  29. And then of course, there is the matter of Crux. The Last Sith, the recluse, who forewent the title of dark lord due to being the endling of his species. The supposed immortal, of whom there are records dating back to before the Ruusan reformation. Nothing had been heard of him since the New Sith Wars, but Darth Plagueis unwisely drew his attention.
  30.
  31. And so the Terminarch emerged from hiding, travelling the galaxy. Taking students under his wing, disregarding the nonsensical Rule of Two, only to be remarkably unimpressed at how quickly his students would choose to stab him in the last - at times literally - for some short term gain or perceived advantage. And yet he continued, with the seeming goal of making his title of the Last Sith a truth. He had a habit of throwing spanners in the works, you see, at the most inconvenient times.
  32.
  33. Though he did not touch Darth Plagueis himself directly, he did ensure to cause him a great deal of trouble. Demask Holdings used to be a trillion-credit conglomeration, you understand, one of the biggest parts of the Trade Federation. In the end it was reduced to nearly no value, with Darth Plagueis reduced to blackmail and threats of naked force to get what he desired.
  34.
  35. Or did you think the poor quality of the Trade Federation's droids was simply unintended design flaws?
  36.
  37. But no, no. The true tragedy of Darth Plagueis was his apprentice. A man who could put a stopper in death, killed in his sleep after a celebratory feast. By a student who was enraged that half of the teachings he learned were useless fabrications, sleight of hand at best. Who thought that the Chosen One of the Sith was conceived of the Force itself, rather than at the hands of his hated red-skinned enemy, who himself used techniques to ensure that the child looked completely human.
  38.
  39. After all, what better way is there to end a nascent Sith empire... than putting your own son in a position to end the last Sith Master?
