↠personality; Lively, fun-loving, and overall very 4D. Growing up with no family, being left to his own devices, he never had to deal with any restrictions of his actions, therefore making him very reckless. Although he is outgoing, he follows the rules extremely well, and finds himself hesitant to break them. If forced to go against authority or break a major rule, he will act oddly, seemingly very nervous, and will be startled easily. (Reasons why will be listed in background). He can't keep secrets, so he will warn others not to tell him anything they wouldn't be fine with their friends hearing. He also tends to assume others will be the same, therefore he will not tell them personal information unless he trusts them as much as he trusts himself. He will act very optimistic, as he has learned to embrace life for all it is and not to take your privileges for granted.


↠background; He was born in Pukchang Concentration Camp, also known as Camp 18, in the South Pyongan province of North Korea: his birth name being Ri Yun Jin. Being born in a labor camp in North Korea, his childhood wasn't pretty. He was beaten daily, harassed by guards and classmates, tortured, and starved. He was reminded everyday that he was worthless, his sin being that he was his parents' son. He was not educated in any subject besides reading and writing, and his life only revolved around a few rules:

1: Do not trust anyone. Your family is your enemy. Your classmates are your enemy. Report everything that everyone tells you. If it is found that you are withholding information, you will be shot.

2: Guards are to be obeyed no matter what. You are not to look a guard directly in the eye, or confront them directly. Any attempt to disobey a guard will result in your execution. You will not complain when beaten by a guard.

3: You are worth nothing. You have sinned by being of bad blood. You must fill more than your daily work quota, regardless of injury or illness. If you are stabbed, if a limb is cut off, if you get frostbite, you must not complain and keep working regardless. If another prisoner is killed, bury the body and return to work.

He, as well as the other children in the camp, had these basic laws pounded into their brains. He became adept at stealing and sneaking food, as he would have starved from the meager food provisions given to him each day, but always feared being told on by someone and being executed. In order to survive, he reported every mistake, crime, or secret being said to guards in order to get on their good side- he now has difficulty keeping secrets because of this reason. At nine years old, he witnessed his older brother being shot to death by guards after he was caught stealing a few grains of rice. His mother, after the death of her firstborn son, conspired with a prison guard who was loyal to South Korea, and plotted to have her younger son smuggled out of the camp. On a winter night, he was taken out of the camp by motor vehicle and driven to Dandong, China, a city bordering North Korea. Upon arriving in Dandong, he was taken in by the community of Koreans there and given the name Yunhwa.


↠how did you join the gang and why?;
HOW: He was looking to start a life in South Korea, after having lived in Dandong for a few years and learning modern Korean there. He discovered the gang's existence and felt as if he had found somewhere he could belong.
WHY: There are North Korean spies actively searching for him. He will be asassinated by them if he is discovered, as he knows about what is really happening in the prison camps. He has almost been murdered once before, after he bumped into a spy soon after entering South Korea and was unable to provide an ID.

↠likes (and why);

-Sweets, junk food, soda. (He treasures food, after growing up eating the same food item every single day for nine years)

-Rom coms. (They may be cheesy, but they give him a sense of happiness and family that he enjoys)

-Puppies (He's always wanted one since he discovered their existence in Dandong)

-Chinese food (first food he tried after escaping the North)

- Taking long baths (like, REALLY long. As in, two hours minimum. With candles and everything.)

-Shades of blue (they remind him of the ocean: something he always dreamed of seeing)

-Reading novels and webtoons (he likes the plot and adventure contained. Heck, he probably even has a Wattpad account or something. Maybe he writes his own stories.)

-Messing around with instruments (he didn't even know music existed until he lived in Dandong, and he instantly fell for it)


↠dislikes (and why) ;

-Dark, enclosed spaces (they remind him of his childhood)

-Pessimists (he thinks they should cheer up, as their lives are extremely pleasant compared to what they could've been)

-The color red (again childhood trauma)

-Pointy objects and fire (they bring back memories of torture as a child)

-Cats (a neighborhood cat attacked him while living in Dandong)

-Seeing siblings playing together (he's fine with children, but seeing two siblings together makes him sad as he remembers his big brother)

-Corn (after eating it every day of his life for nine years, even the sight of it repulses him)

-His members getting hurt or feeling sad (he wants to care for his older friends, as he doesn't want them to feel any of the same emotions that he has in his life. He thinks they deserve better.)


↠trivia ; [ min. 10 ]

-When asked, he will tell people that he was born in Guri, South Korea and given to an orphanage (to explain lack of parents)

-He has a tendency to do favors that weren't even asked of him

-He will insist to sleep with a nightlight on

-Ghost stories don't affect him in any way. He'll comfort the other members by saying "This can't be true! After all, the real horror is..." and then proceed to describe his childhood. As you could guess, this really doesn't help anyone.

-He has some problems with remembering details, as his proper education only started really at the age of ten in Dandong

-He actively encourages people to not go on diets, as food is good and food is a blessing.

-He will try to stop his fellow members from fighting, not caring if he gets hurt in the process

-If you look in his computer browser history, you will find a strangely odd amount of google searches that start with "What would happen if..."

-He tends to lose things a lot- but only important things. He will casually forget his iPhone at a random location, but still be holding on to a pebble he found two weeks ago.

-He will stop to smell every flower that he comes across, regardless of whether he's with someone or not


↠skills/talents;

-He is amazing at gathering and scavenging for food and materials. If you ask him to get materials for a fire, in five minutes he will be back with everything needed and know how to get it started.

-He has quiet footsteps, making him able to sneak around easily and unnoticed.

↠what your character thinks about being an idol?; He is excited at the prospect of indulging in music and eating lots of food, at least. Though he is wondering what it will be like to be famous.

↠weapon of choice ; the Haladie (Google it if you don't know what it is :D)

↠ roles your character usually partake in missions; He will help with managing their resources and sometimes help with taking care of injuries. He will often be sent out to find something that the group needs. Example: a member has been stabbed in the leg, and the member who is nursing him needs some sort of hard object for a tourniquet. Yunhwa will go searching and come back almost instantly with not just one, but multiple options that could work.

If you REALLY want him to have some sort of relationship with someone, you could change his sexuality and get him together with another member or something, just I'd prefer him to stay a little single pringle haha.

-One of the members accidentally says something that brings back the worst memories of his childhood. He gets upset (possibly starts crying?) and the others are shocked at how this normally happy boy suddenly broke.

-An Anti-fan spreads a rumor that records in Guri, his supposed hometown, do not support him saying that he's from there, causing many to question if he's even from South Korea.

-He is caught attending a protest against some sort of social issue

-He walks in on one of the other members doing some intimate stuff (making out, or possibly even... doing it) with someone (another member or their love interest). Yunhwa resolves to make it the best kept secret he's ever had

-Lights (as in contrast to black out),

-FATE (the Hangul spelling for Blackout would be something like 브라크아오트, I'd assume. The consonants in that word are ㅂㄹㅋㅇㅇㅌ. The ㅋ could be changed  to a backwards F, and the ㅇㅇ could be equivalent to a sideways 8. The pronunciation of F8 is Fate, so... I put too much thought into this haha...

-Flames (Again, based off of the Hangul spellings. You could potentially spell it 불아크아오트, making the first syllable "Bul" (불) which means Fire, therefore... flames. Yeah...)

Hellooo you wonderful person! I really love the concept of this applyfic, I'm going to read it regardless of whether I'm picked or not haha. This is probably the longest I've spent filling out a form, but it was totally worth it. I just wanted to comment that every detail about my character's background is completely based on fact, and that many situations like his exist.
