A full setup of a diesel generator + supporting infrastructure is twice (+400 ingots) as expensive in terms of iron/steel as a Railcraft boiler producing almost 1.5 times as much RF/t (1440RF/t vs ~960RF/t after powering the fermenter, squeezer and refinery). The refinery provides a surplus of fuel, but not enough to power a second generator (it uses 8/15 of the fuel produced) - lowest common denominator is 6 fermenters, 6 squeezers, 8 refineries and 15 generators.
