  34. Mothered in Athens by a desirable noblewoman, Korinna's birth would have been considered fortunate by many. In many ways, this was true: she had access to wealth and resources that someone with a poorer origin may not. However, there was one critically important fact that would determine her ultimate fate: her father was not another noble, nor even a particularly dashing soldier or artisan, but the Lord of Olympus himself, Zeus.
  35.
  36. Aware of the jealous nature of Hera, Korinna's heritage was never revealed to anyone - including her, at first. Revealing such would put her and her entire family in grave peril, as many a tale cautioned. This became a black cloud hanging over Korinna for the rest of her life; as children of the gods were often prized, the fact that her father was unknown was a mark of shame. She could not be the product of a noble union, after all; even the most scandalous of those would be known. Was he lowborn? The unusual strength she displayed only made the rumors worse. Was she the product of an unnatural union of human and monster? Still, despite it all, her mother did her best to care for her and weather the talk. . . and her father remained silent high above.
  37.
  38. Korinna discovered her heritage eventually, of course. Her uncommon gifts of strength, both physical and magical, had to come from somewhere, after all, even if they had been honed by the education, training, and competition she had as she aged. After having particular success on the plateaus, she sought out an oracle alongside a group of companions to determine the secrets behind it. After learning the truth, she set off immediately for Mount Olympus, a rage that had been building within finally set alight.
  39.
  40. However, there is nothing truly secret in this world. Somehow, Hera had learned of the Oracle's words, confirming what she had suspected about this unusual mortal the whole time. She hatched a simple plan to deal with yet another instance of her husband's illegitimate spawn. When Korinna reached the Gates of Heaven after a harrowing journey up Mt. Olympus, she demanded to be let through, claiming her birthright as a daughter of Zeus.
  41.
  42. A birthright which was soon denied her. Hera had ensured that one particular individual heard that there was a mortal falsely claiming to be a demigod that would soon try to gain passage to the Realm of the Gods, one who held nothing but malice and poison, both figurative and literal. So, the one to answer her demand was none other than the mighty Herakles himself.
  43.
  44. The contest was short. Korinna was powerful, but Herakles was a legend, and Korinna was battered after a long journey besides. She was cut down and cast from the heavens without landing a single meaningful blow, cursing her father's name with her last breath as she fell into hell.
