HEALTHY ORG QUESTIONS

* Post mortems / What's the problem to be solved?
	-- What examples of bad decisions? Be specific. Why were they bad?
	-- What are the 2-3 things that need fixing during Week #1?
	-- What are the 2-3 things that are annoyances, but can wait?
	-- What is it about XX/YY interaction that isn't working?
	-- Why would I be an improvement over the current situation?
	-- Is this an "organizational tuneup", or a "replace XX and everything else is gold"?
	-- XX works 50% in $remote_location. This sounds like a problem. Is it?

* Communication:
	-- 1:1 with remote teams, ICs, supervisors: how often? formal/informal?
	-- SHARED goals, vision, results, mea culpas -- how are they done?
	-- Skype? F2F? email? Text? Cellphone?

* Culture:
	-- If this job isn't "a 10", what would make it so?
	-- What do you like about working here?
	-- Do remote teams have their own core purpose? Mercenaries or Loyalists?
	-- Can I speak to an HR person in confidence? (turnover? open complaints?) # DOUBTFUL
	-- Can I speak to any other member of the team in confidence? (mgmt <=> dev comms)
	-- Any previous layoffs? Rationale?

* How to measure success:
	-- How would I be evaluated in this role? KPIs? What's the job description?
	-- Feedback: formal? informal? how often? 360? topdown only?

* Business model health:
	-- What are "must-have" team KPIs? #design wins? backlog? %delivery?
	-- List the project backlog. Tech stacks, customers, risks/issues, importance
	-- How are budgets set/revised?

* Knowing what to build:
	-- Does product roadmap exist?
	-- How do requirements get captured?

* Tools & Technology stack:
	-- List the tools in use. Good/bad/brittle, costs, users, alternatives
	-- Any make-vs-buy-vs-license decision process?
	-- PC/Mac/Linux envt? Roll-your-own IT?

* Talent pool:
	-- Draw an org chart. People, titles, tenure, skillset, strong/weak
	-- Why not promote from within?
	-- Name the rock stars in the organization. Why are they rock stars?
	-- Yearly training expectations? Budget?
	-- How are projects assigned to teams? New vs Maintenance?

* Quality & Test coverage metrics:
	-- bug list - how tracked? growing/shrinking? disposition process?
	-- who does verification?
	-- Rev control: tools? (Git?)

* Delivery metrics / project mgmt:
	- on-time%? checklists? design review process?
	- project "gates"? Risk mgmt tools? Customer delivery mechanisms?
	- Can I speak to a customer in confidence? (customer satisfaction?)

* Physical site:
	-- Open seating, or offices?
    -- Clean facilities? Bathrooms, kitchen, break rooms?
    -- How long in current site? Leased or owned?
