  1. That evening, Fannah and I returned home with the day’s haul. I took the vegetables to the kitchen and had a change of clothes as she tended to the toys. When all was said and done, she tried to keep Fanar’s bear, but at threat of sitting in the corner with Mara, she relinquished it. Unphased by the loss of but one toy, her merriment carried on through the night.

  3. Snake sat at the small fireplace in his chair, having a smoke and a read. I greeted him warmly, a kiss atop his head. Then on to the living room in search of Fanar. In our absence, he had fashioned himself a comfy fort in front of the fireplace proper. He lounged about, the king of the living room. Somehow, he had not noticed our return. He sat in his comforts, transfixed by the dancing flames. Perhaps lost in thought. He had no doubt enjoyed his day free of Fannah’s torments, but his day would grow brighter still.
