- 0:09 This would be a lesson in how to assess a fight before you actually go in. You can't see the cart so there's no way to tell visually how many enemies there are around the corner and how big the threat is. But you can hear them pretty clearly. You can hear plenty of enemy activity where the cart is, seconds before you turn that corner. Use that as your first big clue. Another clue is noticing with the player outlines that none of your teammates are near the cart. So you're approaching a cart that has lots of enemies and you have no teammates to help you. If I were you, I would just poke my head out to see what's on the cart, and then immediately back up. You were very lucky not to get burned by the Blu pyro or that more players didn't shoot you.
- 0:19 At this point, you should be leaving this area. You saw the number of players on the cart, and you're now fighting a 2v1 against the demo and pyro. And you're at half HP. Even if you wanted to continue fighting, you shot your last scattergun shot while the pyro was flying overhead. Your gun is now empty, you have 73 HP, and a pyro has just landed in your face. Know the limits of scout, know when a pyro v scout matchup is unfavorable, and know when to leave a fight.
- 0:50 Not much you could've done here, but you really need to notice the Blu demo's stickies on the floor. He plants two sneakier stickies on the floor (near the corpse of your soldier), but there is a very obvious sticky on the wooden walkway in front of you. You even point your crosshair at it. And then you see 3 Blu players on the cart and run forward. This is a fight that you're never going to win. You also should not be the first person to charge at an enemy group while playing as scout. Again, know your limits as scout, the class with the smallest health pool.
- 1:23 Reminder that there's a shortcut to get to this area of the map from your spawn so you don't have to go the long way around. Walk up the right-most spawn door and follow your right side wall. There's a dropdown area that puts you into the small house.
- 1:31 You're standing in front of a cart of Blu players and doing 10 damage chip shots. First, you're effectively dealing no damage because the cart is healing these players the whole time. Second, you're letting yourself take damage for no reason here. You don't have a medic to heal you up, so you're just forcing yourself to waste time finding a medkit.
- 1:34 Absolutely should not be going for a big flank play here at 54 HP with no backup. It's a miracle you actually got as far as the sewer area.
- 2:16 Not the most obvious thing to notice, but you can see the Blu heavy's minigun tracers turning bright blue, indicating he's shooting random crits. If you're observant and quick, you'd stop yourself from running into those bullets.
- 2:23 You can very clearly hear your engie get backstabbed where his sentry was. You should immediately be turning around so you don't get stabbed yourself. If you're playing with headphones then you should absolutely be hearing this. The other spy you're shooting at from 20ft away is not the focus here.
- 2:34 Unlucky, but there's room for you to play further away from the spy to minimize your risk of getting trickstabbed. You can still deal plenty of damage with your scattergun at medium range. You don't necessarily have to land in-your-face meatshots on the spy to fight him.
- 3:00 I would be doing a double take at the Blu spy you just saw get bonesaw'd here. You never know if he's using dead ringer and might come back to stab you. As it turns out, you can see from the top of your screen that his death indicator disappears at 3:02, proving he was using dead ringer and he's just popped up somewhere near you.
- 3:10 Ignoring the fact that you got blasted off the cart, you're putting yourself in a disadvantage fighting the Blu pyro on the cart. You're not at full health and you're trying to fight a pyro in a limited space who's getting healed by the cart. You're losing this fight unless you land two lucky meatshots and the pyro doesn't react. There's no need to go for a desperate attack to stop the cart right now. You're also completely alone in this area of the map as you saw when you ran down the tracks. So even if you get that pyro kill, you're gonna have a rough time afterwards. You have a tendency to jump right into the first fight you see without considering the circumstances.
- 3:48 Good idea to back up here, knowing you're outnumbered and outmatched against that pyro. You back up to your heavy and support him. I'd like to see more teamwork like this from you as scout instead of Hail Mary solo plays.
- 4:12 You got out of there alive, but you're not noticing that you're at 66 HP. At this point you need to grab health and come back later. You have no medic nearby to help you, so taking just a little damage means you'd be in the danger zone.
- 5:01 Stop and look at this situation right now. It's a 3v1 and there's a medic possibly giving overheal to his teammates. There's no reason you should be attempting to take on a possibly overhealed soldier right now. Fighting that soldier alone would be ballsy, but again there are 3 of them. This is another fight that is absolutely not necessary.
- 6:11 I would be very very cautious about coming back around this corner to fight the enemies on the cart right here. You already know there's at least 3 Blu players, including a pyro who could potentially airblast you into the pit or just WM1 you and burn you up in a second. I will say I like the initiative to push with your ubered soldier combo and follow up on his damage. This is where scout works the best. But I don't know why you choose to run away through the hallway instead of continuing your fight outdoors. If you were looking to flank those retreating Blu players, then again it would've been way too risky with at least 3 of them and only 1 of you.
- 6:53 If you're going to build a sentry on Upward last, you need to place it right outside your spawn door and upgrade it there, then haul it in place once it's lvl 3. Building it where you built it is a bad idea for two reasons. One, it's right next to the cart with no cover where basically any class can shoot it down. And two, you don't have enough metal to upgrade to lvl 2, so you're going to have to run back to spawn for more metal. It's going to take way longer to upgrade your sentry this way, and you're leaving your sentry exposed while you run back for metal.
- 7:18 FYI you can't jump over the elevated railing, but you can jump on the railing facing the pit, and then jump over the left railing to get over it.
- 7:42 Now you see why no engineer ever puts a sentry in this spot. It's inviting anybody on Blu to shoot at it, where they have cover to keep shooting it but you do not. And it wasn't even fully upgraded yet, so I don't know why you were so quick to put it in this spot.
- 8:03 Nothing to say here except you really cannot be repeating the exact same mistake twice.
- 8:30 Good play to hunt down the medic, but again you're charging into battle with only a little HP. You have a hud that centers your health and ammo, and your health number is turning red when it's low. Please pay attention to this detail. It feels like you're playing with no hud sometimes.
- 9:01 Your aim for the most part is decent, but there's no excuse for missing these shots on the demo who's walking in a straight line. I see a lot of new scouts making way too much movement with either their mouse or keyboard, or both, causing them to miss easy shots. It might help for you to practice on tr_walkway bots walking in a straight line so you never miss this kind of target.
- 9:35 You're fighting a 1v3 and your uber's gone. Please run back.
- 10:01 I like the idea to run past the ubered players and going for the isolated demo. It's a bit unlucky that he piped you. But something you can work on is switching to your pistol the second your scattergun is empty, to maximize your damage output. Pay attention to your ammo counter.
- 10:27 Again, you're fighting a demo and a heavy by yourself. Instead of running away, you run towards them. How many more of these fights do you need to lose before you realize you can't keep doing this?
- 11:03 Brother you cannot keep doing this.
- 11:33 This is a very dangerous area for you to be lurking around by yourself. Even if you killed both the spy and the engie, you're surely not getting out of this alive.
- 12:15 Please.
- 12:42 This part is understandable and actually a good play by you to stop the cart.
- 12:53 You are hanging around this area way too long when you are outnumbered and more spawners are coming this way. You also don't notice the Red sentry got destroyed behind you, so you're all alone. You back up at 12:56, but then you run forward for reasons I cannot explain. Surely you cannot be this greedy to get that sniper kill.
- 13:28 At this point you should know what I'm going to say about this.
- OVERALL: The biggest problem is I'm seeing the same thing happening over and over again with no changes. You notice a group of enemies and your first instinct is to run at them and fight them head on. Even if your health goes dangerously low, you continue strafing in circles until you eventually die. You need to program this mindset out of your brain. You need to realize why scout cannot take on multiple classes by himself. You also need to realize advantages and disadvantages during a fight (and ideally before a fight). Start to notice signs of when to retreat instead of going forward. Realize when you should make a desperation play and when it's not needed. Take a second to notice when you have teammates with you and when you're completely alone.
