  10. The shitty thing about Renta's business model is that if an otherwise great manga has a terrible first chapter people are very unlikely to read on. And 24 Hour Kiss has a terrible first chapter, which is paced too fast, slightly confusing, and ends in dubcon. But the next ten chapters are a much better manga, because our formerly straight manager Tokura and his gay designer underling Ryo develop such good chemistry and rapport. The vibe this manga produces reminds me of Totempole and Koshino's work, which are low-key and character focused. Tokura and Ryo aren't anime stereotypes, and they have ambitions in life beyond getting in each other's pants. The manga is set at a makeup company, and the mangaka breathes life into their world with plenty of office dilemmas and charming co-workers. And as the plot moves along you can see why they might genuinely fall in love with each other, which is probably the most you can ask for from BL.

  15. This is a gay teen sex comedy, which is personally my favorite sub-sub genre of BL. Seiei is a handsome and masculine basketball star at an all-boys school, but dreams of being taken anally by a dom top. There's a token love triangle between him, his "straight" roommate, and a troublemaking transfer student, but the real appeal here is how funny Seiei's extremely horny thoughts are. The author nails being how a desperate bottom in high school felt like, which is being extremely frustrated, naive and self-pitying all at once. The art is below average, but the censoring is the best kind, with filled-in outlines of dicks with no bars.

  20. Good news for poorfags: someone leaked the Renta translation on myreadingmanga so you don't have to pay for it anymore. Frankly, though, it's worth your fujobux to support a mangaka whose doing something really different. First, it's set in America, and in a rare achievement in Japanese manga, manages to get the setting mostly right. But more importantly, it's unusual for a BL manga because it's hard to tell what will happen from one chapter to the next, or even whether or not the main couple will get together or not. The manga starts off with a cliche set-up: a straight redheaded cherry boy realizes his best friend is gay, and what's more, only sleeps with red-headed men with a similar build to his own. Does that mean .... and what is this feeling in his heart?? Luckily, this plot lasts for all of one chapter before it gets mercilessly subverted and we descend into a sharp melodrama with lots of hate fucking. And it works, somehow, mostly because a) the dialogue is funny and b) Daniel, the gay friend, is a well-rounded portrait of a self-sabotaging, self-hating homosexual having a nervous breakdown. Daniel is so well-rounded that's he's making the 14 year old fujos S E E T H E in the comments because he's such an asshole, but I feel like angsty small town gays would get why he's so self-destructive.

  29. This is basically a gay version of straight wish fulfillment manga like Oh My Goddess!! Your perfect boyfriend falls from the sky, and takes your side as you face off against a bully and build up the courage to come out. The seme is a celestial hottie with childlike naiveté for earthling behavior, which is a classic manga archetype that works here as well as it does anywhere else.
  30. If you're a closeted lonely twenty-something like our uke here you'll probably find this manga hearty like comfort food. In other words, if you're in the mood for a lightweight Yamamoto Kotetsuko manga, you'd like this. The stakes are minimal and there's no melodrama. Because the plot is so thin, there are a ton of sex scenes to fill in blank space, though, which are surprisingly romantic, 100% consensual, and even a little hot. There's not very explicit, but there's some charm in how the mangaka draws the uke with a bit of cute body fat.

  35. You might be tempted to read this one because of the excellent, funny, and sexy first chapter. Unfortunately, the pacing slows down, and we go into typical yaoiland misunderstanding antics. The one bright side is that the main couple are charming, and there are just enough good gags to sustain your interest.
  36. A bisexual playboy is madly in love with his childhood best friend, but the best friend is a innocent perma-virgin who is appears oblivious to this. But one day, the perma-virgin is hard up for cash and decides to sell his body to his old rich buddy. No, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but the plot has a zany energy that keeps everything rolling. It's never insultingly stupid, so it makes a decent read if you want something bubbly.

  41. This is beat-by-beat Heaven in the Hell or
  42. Shucchou Host NYU Boy with less humor and hotter art. Also, the seme isn't a gigalo this time, he's one of those Japanese Rent-A-Family "Big Brothers." Only recommended if you like the gap moe between tough looks and shy, cuddly behavior. I can't emphasize enough how good the art is though, it almost fools your brain into thinking this is a better manga.

  45. >Unexpected Attraction
  46. This is an gay guy x gay guy romance, none of that gay-for-you or turned-gay nonsense, which is unique enough that it makes up for it's formulaic plot and wonky romance. The uke has a great personality, proud and out, but the seme is kind of an antisocial shithead for no reason. He likes to lock the uke up in chains and collars and then dom him, so his sadism kind of ruins their chemistry, and their romance doesn't feel believable. But if you want shlock but hate straight guy cliches, this is worth a try.

  51. It's yankee x ex-yankee, and it's porn with barebones plot, and it has a few fights (no he's a yankee but loves kittens kind of thing here). It's a solid if generic yankee romance.

  56. It's a twist on the usual slutty neighbor thin walls type story. Usually it's the slutty neighbor coming onto the inexperienced prude, but here it's the reverse: the prude turns out to be a brutal seme who turns the slutty neighbor onto taking cocks up his ass. I like blonde bi playboy ukes, but the mangaka kind of forgets to make the characters develop and begin to love each other.

  66. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned this in the thread yet, since going off the charts it's the most popular BL manga Renta has ever put out, beating even straight-bait gender-bender shit. I was wondering if this would be popular and good like Doushitemo Furetakunai, or popular and bad like Elektel Delusion. It turns out its just popular and alright. The plot is that the uke has the power to see people's "horny meters," and realizes that his best friend is always incredibly, dangerously horny. You see, if you're horny meter overflows, you lose your reason and turn into a molester. So the uke takes it upon himself to be a good bro and get his bros off. Decent comedy with some average sex scenes.

  71. This is an absolutely insane melodrama about going from an open relationship to a closed one. Ex-delinquent Tora (seme) is dating Masami (uke), a suave middle-aged businessman who is also openly dating four other men. Manami realizes that Tora wants to be exclusive though, and the rest of the manga is preoccupied with flashbacks and Masami's jealous and crazy exes. I've never read anything else like it, but if asian soap operas are not for you, this is probably a hard pass.
