  1. knock knock knock
  2. >Lincoln groaned. Was it time for school already?
  3. >No, yesterday (today?) was friday.
  4. >Whatever. It was late and this boy needed whatever rest he could get.
  5. knock knock knockity knock
  6. >Lincoln sat up on his elbows and squinted at his door.
  7. >"Yeah?"
  8. >The door creaked open slightly, and a pair of thick coke-bottle glasses peeked into the room, holding a pillow tightly.
  9. >"May I schleep with you tonight, Lincoln."
  10. >"Yeah, yeah, Lisa"
  11. >"Thank you, fraternal unit"
  12. >This was the third or fourth time this week that Lisa had asked to sleep with Lincoln.
  13. >Lincoln didn't mind much.
  14. >It was better than when his roommate was Lynn, at the very least.
  15. >Lincoln felt the bed jolt slightly as Lisa plopped herself down beside him.
  16. >Soon, the heartrate of Lincoln calmed back down, and Lisa knew he was asleep.
  17. >What a nice brother he was.
  18. >For all the ethically dubious experiments she performed on him,
  19. >For all the times she and her sisters tormented him with endless sibling rivalry,
  20. >Lincoln always met her back with a smile.
  21. >It was enough to infatuate the child, barely out of her toddler years.
  22. >All the stress of being the world's smartest four-year-old had taken a toll on her recently.
  23. >She had to be more stoic, more intelligent, more objective, more adult than anyone else.
  24. >But at night, all she had to do was go to sleep,
  25. >An action that proved to be an impossibility.
  26. >Lisa was too young for the dozens of insomnia solutions out there.
  27. >Not to mention her own disdain at the superstitious and unscientific suggestions the internet had thrown her way.
  28. >But at the very least, Lisa's only brother understood her plight, and was there for her.
  29. >Even if only in this insignificant way.
  30. >Lisa placed her head on Lincoln's chest, and felt it rise softly with each breath.
  31. >"I love you, big brother."
  32. >And Lisa drifted away, a smile on her face as she lay next to her favorite person in the world
