The Dragon and The Hummingbird

Prologue:

	Michael and Sally were just ordinary kids until the day their parents were killed by an invisible monster and they found out they were anything but ordinary. It all started when Michael saw Sally transform into a hummingbird without warning. Their parents witnessed it too and acted like they knew something, but weren't telling what they knew. Spying on them later that night, Michael heard his mother on the phone. He didn't know who she was talking to, but she mentioned "Ymbryne", a word Michael had never heard before. The next day, Michael's father asked him if he'd ever done anything weird, like how his sister had transformed into a hummingbird. Before Michael could answer, an invisible force grabbed his father and dragged him away. Michael and Sally chased after him and saw their mother grabbed up by the same invisible creature. As the creature dragged their parents outside into their front yard, Michael realized he could see the invisible creature's shadow, but not the creature itself. He sees the creature toss his parents' bodies down in the yard. Guessing as to where the creature's head was, Michael grabbed one of his dad's rifles and shot at the creature. Moments later, he heard the creature drop dead. Michael and Sally rushed over to their parents. Their mother told them to "seek the Ymbrynes". Both of their parents go silent, and the siblings realize they are now orphans. Hearing what sounds like more of the invisible creatures nearby, the two of them hop on their bikes and ride away as fast as they can, unaware that their neighbors' son, Jacob, was watching the whole scene.


Michael's POV

	My main thought as we biked away from our house was to protect my sister. Even though she's 16 years old and I'm 18, I still felt the need to protect her. There could be more of those invisible whatsits out there waiting to attack for all we know. as we biked through town, I heard a screech above me and looked up to see a large bird, a peregrine falcon, hovering above us.

	"Sis, you know how you can transform into a hummingbird? I think that falcon up there might be someone like you who is here to help us.", I told Sally.

	"What makes you think that?", she responds back.

	"I overheard our mother on the phone. she was talking to someone about you and used the term "Ymbryne". I think it refers to anyone who can turn into a bird. Falcons are quite rare in this area, so this one is likely an Ymbryne. I think we should follow it", I explain. The falcon turns to look at me as I mention it being an Ymbryne, as if to acknowledge that I'm right.


Sally's POV

	Normally, I would think my brother is crazy for wanting to follow a bird because he thinks its here to help us, but I want answers to quite a few questions, so I decide to go along with him. We follow the bird and soon end up at a dock near the beach. Our family's yacht is anchored here, and I find it odd that the falcon led us to this specific spot.

	"I think it wants us to set sail", I suggest, realizing my brother is likely right about the falcon.

	"Get on the yacht, I'll untie it from the dock", Michael tells me. I do as he says and soon we head out across the ocean.


Miss Peregrine's POV

	Once I see that Michael and Sally are on their way to the island, I fly back to find Jacob. When he found out I was journeying to America find two new Peculiars, who happened to be his parents' neighbors' kids, Jacob decided to come along and get some stuff from his parents' house. As I arrive at Jacob's parents' house, I see him loading some bags into a car. He looks up and sees me flying down towards him. Jacob opens the passenger side door and I land inside the car, changing back to my human form.


Jacob's POV

	After I make sure Miss Peregrine has her seat belt buckled, I climb in the driver seat and we head down the road.

	"I saw a dead Hollow in the neighbors' yard. Are Michael and Sally okay? If I'd have known they were Peculiars, I'd have brought them along when me and dad first went to Cairnholm", I ask.

	"I led them to the docks, where they set sail aboard a yacht. The boy, Michael, said he overhead his mother talking to me on the phone. He quickly deduced what an Ymbryne is and that both his sister and myself are Ymbrynes. I didn't show my human self to them because I was in a hurry to get back to you", Miss Peregrine explains.

	"You should probably know that Saladora, or "Sally" as she prefers to be called, has a bit of a crush on me. She might start trying to flirt with me when we meet up with her and her brother. As much fun as it would be to date an Ymbryne, I'm too attached to Emma to even think about dating Sally", I explain to Miss Peregrine.

	"I'm pretty sure Emma's love for you is strong enough that she won't let Saladora come between you two", Miss Peregrine assures me.

	I hurry to the docks and board a second yacht. Miss Peregrine turns back into a falcon and flies ahead to catch up to Michael and Sally.


Michael's POV

	As Sally and I traverse the waves, I notice the falcon has disappeared.

	"We lost the falcon", I tell Sally.

	"What do we do now?", She asks. A screech answers her questions as the falcon flies up from behind us. It lands on the yacht right in front of us and transforms into a woman in a black dress.

	"I am Miss Alma Lefay Peregrine", the woman explains, "I came to find you at your mother's behest".

	"Our parents were killed by an invisible monster. I managed to shoot and kill it with dad's rifle and then we fled for our lives", I explain.

	"I'm aware of that and I'm sorry for your loss. The creature that killed them is called a Hollowgast. Only certain Peculiars, like my ward Jacob, can see them. Here he comes now", Miss Peregrine explains.

	A second yacht pulls up beside ours and I recognize the person steering it: our neighbors' son Jacob. Miss Peregrine turns back into a falcon, flies over to Jacob's yacht, and turns back into a woman.

	I notice Sally eyeing Jacob the way she always did when she was about to flirt with him. I quickly nudge her, snapping her out of it.

	"Follow me and Jacob", Miss Peregrine yells at us. Jacob guns his yacht and it takes off. I return to the wheel of our yacht and follow after them.


Sally's POV

	So my brother was right about the falcon being a person in another form. Needing a few more answers, I transform into a hummingbird and fly over to Jacob's boat. Landing on the deck, I change back to human form.

	"So you're an Ymbryne, Sally?" Jacob asks.

	"I think so. Bro said he heard mom talking about an Ymbryne and it refers to anyone who can turn into a bird", I explain. I walk towards Jacob.

	"So what kinda powers do you have?", I ask him.

	"I can see the Hollows. Sally, please don't start flirting with me like you used to. I have a girlfriend now and I don't need you pestering me", Jacob demands. I blush and back away from him. I turn into a hummingbird and start to fly back to my brother's yacht, when Jacob stops me and points towards it.

	"There's a Hollow on board your brother's boat", Jacob points out. I see my brother fighting with something I can't see. Then, I see a shoreline in the distance. Looking up I see something strange: a girl in a sky-blue dress seemingly suspended above the water.


Emma's POV

	Miss Peregrine had said to wait for her and Jacob to return even though I really wanted to go with them. Hours pass and they still haven't returned so I leave the loop and walk down to the shore to look for them. After standing on the beach for a while and not seeing any sign of them, I decide to tie myself to a nearby pole and float up to look across the ocean for them. I see the two yachts approaching moments later. As they got closer, I notice a boy fighting something invisible on one yacht. Jacob and Miss Peregrine are on the other yacht seemingly yelling at the boy. I realize Jacob is trying to tell the boy where to attack the Hollow. I try to yell at them and then I notice a hummingbird flying above the boats. It lands on the boat with the Hollow and transforms into a girl about my age. She has blonde hair, just like the boy fighting the Hollow. Miss Peregrine had said she was going to meet up with two Peculiars who are brother and sister. The sister, she'd told me, is a young Ymbryne. She didn't know what the brother's Peculiarity is, but would worry about that after she found the two of them. I begin yelling to get their attention.


Michael's POV

	Shortly after Sally flies over to Jacob's yacht, I hear the creature come up onto the deck. Instinctively, I grab an oar and bat it at the invisible creature. A few times, I feel it connect with something. Then, a tentacle grabs me around the leg, causing me to fall down. I smack the tentacle with the oar as hard as I could and feel it let go of me. Sally lands on the deck and points to something up ahead. Its then that I notice the girl hovering above the water. She's looking towards us and yelling out. Looking closer I can see a rope around her chest. The other end of the rope is tied to a pole on the beach. Miss Peregrine, in falcon form, lands beside me and transforms back to human form.

	"We need to kill this monster and save that girl", I tell Miss Peregrine, "which should we do first?". The Hollow grabs Sally's leg, but she turns into a hummingbird and slips away from it. I retrieve dad's rifle, which I had brought with me in case we got attacked, but before I can get off a single shot, the creature smacks me and the rifle flies overboard and sinks below the ocean. The Hollow rips the steering wheel off its platform and throws it overboard. The yacht begins careening out of control. Jacob steers his yacht next to mine and I jump over to his. My sister and Miss Peregrine transform to their bird forms and fly over to join us. Moments later, our yacht strikes a rock, hurtling the Hollow far out to sea. The yacht sinks as the Hollow disappears from sight.

	"We need to save Emma", Jacob yells. I realize he's talking about the hovering girl. As I focus on the girl, I get a strange feeling and shut my eyes. When I open them, I'm face-to-face with Emma. Then I realize she's still hovering above the water. I notice a dragon reflected in the water under us, and realize the dragon is me. I lower Emma down to the ground and she straps on a pair of shoes that were at the foot of the pole she'd tied herself to. I realize they are weighted to keep her from floating away.


Sally's POV

	It really caught me off-guard when my brother transformed into a dragon. As a dragon, he has reddish-brown skin and scales, black wings, and a blonde colored head and horns. He is able to lower the hovering girl back down to the ground. We reach the shoreline a few moments later. Jacob runs up to the girl and hugs her. My brother transforms back to his human form. Miss Peregrine walks up to him.

	"You're a Dragonian", I hear her tell my brother, "a Peculiar who can turn into a dragon".

	"Does that make me like a Super-Ymbryne or something?" He asks her. I can't help laughing. I rush up to them.

	"No. only women are Ymbrynes", Miss Peregrine explains, "Ymbrynes have other powers besides just shape-shifting. I'll explain more once we get home". Miss Peregrine pulls Emma aside.

	"I told you to wait for us in the loop. Coming out here and tying yourself to that pole was foolish", Miss Peregrine scolds her.

	"Sorry. I got worried because you and Jacob were taking so long", Emma responds. While Emma is distracted, I decide to try and flirt with Jacob again.

	"You know Jacob, Maybe the two of us could go somewhere else and let Miss Peregrine and Emma have some time alone", I suggest. A big red tail slaps me from out of nowhere. My brother managed to manifest his dragon tail without fully transforming.

	"Leave Jacob alone. He isn't gonna go out with you, so stop asking", Michael yells. Overhearing this, Emma turns around so she's facing me and blasts me with a big gust of wind.

	"Jacob is my boyfriend. I don't care if you are an Ymbryne, leave him alone", Emma yells. I promptly transform into my hummingbird form and proceed to glide on Emma's wind gust, to tease her a little bit.

	"You two girls knock it off", Miss Peregrine yells. Emma ends her gust and I transform back to human form.

 	Miss Perergine leads us to the other side of the island, which is called Cairnholm. I notice a run-down, abandoned mansion before Miss Peregrine leads us to a cave, or cairn, as it is called. When we enter the cave, I get a weird feeling. We exit the cave and I see the same mansion, but now it looks brand-new.

	"Did we just cross into another universe or something? I saw that same mansion before we entered the cairn and it looked run-down and abandoned", I ask.

	"We entered my loop", Miss Peregrine explains, "We've gone back in time to 1944".


Bronwyn's POV

	I see a strange blonde girl come out of the cairn and immediately rush up and punch her. Miss Peregrine told us to always remain vigilant in case a Wight found our Loop. The girl transforms into a hummingbird and dodges my punch. Then, she starts pecking me on the head. Miss Peregrine emerges from the cairn.

	"Saladora stop that", Miss Peregrine yells and the hummingbird swiftly transforms back to human form. Emma, Jacob, and another boy emerge from the cairn behind Miss Peregrine. The boy rushes up to me and his head suddenly transforms into that of a dragon. He lets out a roar, startling me to the point that I stumble backwards.

	"Michael, what was that for?", Miss Peregrine asks. The boy's head returns to normal.

	"I saw that girl throw a punch. I was protecting my sister", Michael answers. Miss Peregrine walks over to me.

	"This is Bronwyn. Her Peculiarity is superstrength", she introduces, "Bronwyn, this is Michael and Saladora Humming. He's a Dragonian and she's a young Ymbryne.

	"Please call me Sally", the hummingbird girl requests, "I hate being called Saladora. Only my parents called me by my full first name and they are dead now, thanks to that invisible whatsit". I apologize for trying to punch Sally, and Michael apologizes for roaring in my face.

	"Let's go find the others", Miss Peregrine suggests, and she leads Michael and Sally away from me.


Michael's POV

	I notice Jacob and Emma hanging back while Miss Peregrine ushers me and Sally along. We are introduced to Claire, who has a second mouth on the back of her head. Millard, an invisible boy, approaches us next. I realize he is naked and try to shield my sister from seeing him before realizing she can't see him anyway. Regardless, Miss Peregrine tells Millard to go put some clothes on. Next, we are introduced to Olive (who can control and conjure fire), the twins (who can petrify anyone who sees their true faces), Enoch (who can make stuff come alive), Fiona (who can make plants grow at an extremely fast rate), Howard (who can project his dreams for all to see), and Hugh (who has bees living inside him). I show off my dragon powers for each of them and my sister transforms into a hummingbird for all of them to see. Afterward, Miss Peregrine shows us to our rooms, which are right next to each other. We put our stuff away and went back outside to hang out with the other Peculiars.


Sally's POV

	After we have been outside for a while, Miss Peregrine summons me back inside.

	"Miss Avocet is the Ymbryne who teaches young Ymbrynes how to use their powers. In addition to transforming into birds, Ymbrynes can create time loops, like the one we're in now, and can reset them at the end of the day. Those of us living in this time loop will never age as long as an Ymbryne resets it at the end of the day", Miss Peregrine explains.

	"Are you saying I need to leave your loop and go to Miss Avocet's loop?", I ask her.

	"There's no hurry in that. Besides, Miss Avocet is coming here to meet you. She'll be flying in tomorrow. We'll decide when you will go to her loop once she gets here", Miss Peregrine answers.

	"I'm actually looking forward to when I can make my own loop and take in wards of my own", I remark. Noticing an open window, I transform into a hummingbird and fly out through it. I fly over to my brother, give him some pecks on his head to get his attention, and then transform back to human form and explain to him what Miss Peregrine told me. Not long after I finish explaining about Miss Avocet, Miss Peregrine calls us in for dinner.

	After dinner, we watch Howard project his dreams for us. When the show is over, we all go outside to watch Miss Peregrine reset the loop. I'm extremely interested in seeing how this is done. Everyone puts on masks. Planes fly overhead, and one drops a bomb right over the House. just before the bomb would hit, Miss Peregrine presses a button on her timepiece and everything rewinds. The bomb rises back up into the plane. Night becomes day, and then night again. Miss Peregrine lets go of the button and everything is quiet. She ushers everyone into bed for the night.


Michael's POV

	I am the first one to wake up the next morning. I realize that Miss Avocet will probably take my sister away to her loop for Ymbryne training, so I decide to fix all of my sister's favorite breakfast foods. I fix pancakes, waffles, french toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, and gravy. Sally comes down into the kitchen and notices what I am doing.

	"You must really think Miss Avocet is gonna take me away", Sally remarks. She begins helping me prepare the food. Miss Peregrine is the next person to enter the kitchen.

	"You two sure seem to know how to cook up a feast", Miss Peregrine remarks. The other children arrive in the kitchen one by one. They are awestruck at the sight of what Michael and Sally cooked up. Everyone pigs out. Claire takes so much food, she has to use both of her mouths to eat it all. After breakfast, everyone heads outside. Sally and I keep an eye on the cairn, expecting Miss Avocet to come through it at any minute. We notice Jacob and Emma heading into the cairn and decide to follow them. Right after we enter the cairn, a bird slams into a wall and falls to the ground. Sally lifts the bird up off the ground and Jacob and Emma come running.

	"It's Miss Avocet", Emma realizes. We rush back to the house, Sally carrying Miss Avocet in her arms.


Sally's POV

	I sure wasn't planning on meeting my future teacher by having her slam into a wall near were I was standing. That's what ended up happening, though. I carried Miss Avocet in my arms as we rushed her to Miss Peregrine. Miss Peregrine transforms into her falcon form and talks with Miss Avocet bird to bird, I shift to Hummingbird form and listen in on their conversation. After a few minutes, I transform back to human form and burst into tears.

	"It's all my fault", I cry, "Miss Avocet left her loop and her wards to come meet me and got attacked by Hollows and Wights, which are what Hollows become after they consume the eyeballs of Peculiars". I can't take anymore and run from the house crying.


Michael's POV


	I chase after my sister to try and comfort her. I follow Sally into the cairn and out of the loop.

	"We should never have come here. If we'd stayed home, Miss Peregrine wouldn't have sent for Miss Avocet and Miss Avocet wouldn't have gotten attacked", Sally insists. She transforms into her Hummingbird form and flies out over the ocean. I transform into my dragon form and fly after her. After flying circles around the island for a while, We notice some strange men in a boat docking on the beach near the cairn. We quickly land just outside the cairn and turn back into our human forms. We make it back into the loop before the men notice us.

	"Where did you two go?", Jacob asks.

	"We just flew around the island. We needed to clear our heads and think about things. We saw some strange men land on the island not too far from the cairn so we hurried back here to warn Miss Peregrine", I explain. Jacob rushes into the cairn. Sally and I head inside the house to check on Miss Avocet. They are pleased to find that Miss Avocet is back in her human form.

	"I'm afraid I'll need a bit longer to recover before we discuss your Ymbryne training", Miss Avocet explains to Sally. Then, we hear someone scream downstairs. We rush outside to see one of the strange men, a Wight named Barron, holding a knife to Jacob's throat.


Miss Peregrine's POV

	Barron tells me he will kill Jacob unless I transform into my bird form and get in a cage one of the other Wights is holding. I turn to face my wards.

	"It's been my honor to serve as your headmistress", I tell them. Then, I shift to bird form and fly into the Wights' cage. They close it behind me.


Michael's POV

	I watch as the Wights carry the caged Miss Peregrine away. Miss Avocet appears and tries to tell us not to worry, but the Wights capture her too. As they leave, it becomes apparent that they left several Hollows behind. I transform to my dragon form and roast the Hollows with my flame breath. Olive, the girl who can conjure and control fire, adds to the Hollow bonfire. Jacob and Emma rally the Peculiars and tell everyone that the Wights are holding several Ymbrynes hostage in Blackpool Tower, which is in London. Once all the Hollows are burnt to a crisp, all of Miss Peregrine's children head out to rescue their headmistress and the other Ymbrynes. Soon, only Sally and I are left at the house.

	"We need to go rescue Miss Peregrine. This loop will close without her here to reset it. As it is, we may not be able to get her back here in time to reset it anyway", I explain. Sally had been setting on the ground crying, but she suddenly looks up at me and grins.

	"I'm not going with you", She tells me. Sally leans over and whispers in my ear, then heads back into the house. Understanding what she is planning to do, I rush off to join the others, leaving her behind.


Olive's POV

	When I saw the dragon boy roasting Hollows with his flame breath, I couldn't resist joining in. I've actually had a bit of a crush on him since the day he first arrived in the loop. He was really concerned with his sister getting her Ymbryne training, so I didn't want to bother him. Perhaps when we are finished rescuing Miss Peregrine, I'll get a chance to talk to Michael.


Emma's POV

	In order to chase after the Wights, I suggest that we raise a ship that had sunk and use it to sail to London. Working together, we get the ship working again and set sail. Jacob walks up to me as I steer the ship.


Jacob's POV

	After Emma raised the ship, I notice Michael and Sally are missing. I walk up to Emma

"Have you seen Michael and Sally?", I ask her.

	"They probably flew on ahead", Emma responds. Figuring she's right, I head up onto the deck to look around. A few seconds later, Michael flies by in dragon form, lands on the deck, and transforms back to human form.

	"Where's Sally", I ask him.

	"She stayed behind", Michael answers, "She thinks it's all her fault that Miss Avocet got injured and Miss Peregrine got captured". Michael heads below deck, and I can sense that he knows something that he isn't telling.


Sally's POV

	If I hadn't come to this island, Miss Peregrine wouldn't have sent for Miss Avocet, and Miss Avocet wouldn't have gotten injured. If I hadn't run off after Miss Avocet got injured, the Wights wouldn't have seen me and Michael returning to the loop. Long story short, everything is my fault. So now, I'm gonna do what I can to make up for all the trouble I've caused. I head up to Miss Peregrine's bedroom and retrieve her timepiece. After eating some dinner, I head outside and wait for the bomb to drop. Remembering what Miss Peregrine did, I press the button on her timepiece right before the bomb would hit, and everything starts moving in reverse. The bomb goes back up into the plane, and night becomes day. When it becomes night again, I let go of the button and everything is quiet. With the loop reset, I go to bed.


Olive's POV

	I see Michael coming down from the deck. I notice that Sally isn't with him, so I decide to walk over and chat with him.

	"I enjoyed roasting Hollows with you. Maybe once this is all over and we've rescued Miss Peregrine, you and I can hang out together", I suggest to him. Michael walks away without responding.


Michael's POV

	The last thing I need right now is Olive flirting with me. As I walk away from her, I realize I should at least give her an answer.

	"Maybe later", I yell back to her. I walk up to Emma and let her know I'm going on ahead. With that, I transform back into my dragon form and fly away.


Sally's POV

	I wake up early the next morning and eat a quick breakfast. I'm not sure how long the others will need to rescue Miss Peregrine, so I go about organizing things around the house, and then set out to get a few groceries. As I return to the loop, I hear four voices nearby. I hurry back into the loop and set my groceries down inside the house. I return to the cairn and encounter the four individuals I heard coming: two boys and two girls. I transform to Hummingbird form and hide. I take note of the fact that they made it into the loop, which means they are Peculiars, and that they have normal eyes (Wights have blank eyes). Deciding it's safe, I come out of hiding and switch back to human form right in front of them.

	"Are you Miss Peregrine?", one of the girls asks.

	"That was a hummingbird, not a falcon, Penny. This must be a different Ymbryne", one of the boys responds. I don't recognize these four Peculiars, so I decide to make the most of this situation

	"I am Miss Humming. I am acting as a substitute Ymbryne while Miss Peregrine is away", I explain. I lead the four of them up to Miss Peregrine's house and we step inside.


Michael's POV

	I arrive in London at what looks like an amusement park fun house. The others arrive a short time later. Jacob explains that the funhouse contains a loop and the Wights likely have the Ymbrynes on the other side of it. When we enter the Loop, I realize we have returned to the present day. Jacob points to a tower and says the Ymbrynes are inside it.

	"Should I burn the tower down now, or wait till we get the Ymbrynes out of it?", I ask. Like my sister, I feel to blame for what happened to Miss Avocet and Miss Peregrine. I'm so angry at the Wights that I wanna utterly destroy them.

	"If your gonna burn down the tower, I wanna help", Olive shouts.

	"No one's burning down the tower. We need to focus on rescuing the Ymbrynes right now", Jacob responds. He then points out a number of Hollows guarding the tower.

	"Feel free to burn those, though" He adds. I switch to dragon form and herd the Hollows together. Olive forms a ring of fire around them. Once all the Hollows are inside the ring of fire, the two of us take great pleasure in barbecuing them. Claire, Bronwyn, and Fiona hold marshmallows up to the Hollow bonfire and indulge themselves. The five of us make sure all the Hollows that were guarding the tower have been properly fried, and then join the others inside the tower. I follow Jacob down a hallway and find a room containing a large birdcage. Jacob begins fiddling with the lock. Barron enters the room and I put myself, in dragon form, between him and Jacob.

	"It's over", Barron taunts. His arm morphs into an axe. He takes a swing at me but I bite his axe-arm. I fling him across the room. Jacob manages to unlock the cage and all the Ymbrynes fly away. Miss Peregrine is in a seperate cage, but Jacob easily opens that one too. Miss Peregrine flies out, pecks at Barron's head, and then flies away. Barron falls to the floor. I stand right above him.

	"Enter....the dragon", I declare. I let loose a burst of dragon fire, consuming Barron completely. A Hollow tries to sneak down behind us. I turn around just in time to see Olive hitting the Hollow in its invisible face with a large fireball. I fly out of the room with Jacob and Olivia clinging to my back. between my roasting of Barron, and Olive fireballing the Hollow, The room is quickly engulfed in flames. I fly past the others as I head for the exit.

	"The Ymbrynes are free and the tower's on fire. Let's get out of here.", Jacob quickly shouts. Everyone heads towards the funhouse. We quickly return to 1944 and get back on the boat. Jacob jumps off my back as I land on the deck. Olive reaches around tries to kiss me, but I throw her off.

	"Can you wait til I'm NOT in dragon form for that" I remark, right before changing back to human form. Before we have a chance to kiss, Miss Peregrine lands on the deck. I notice that Jacob and Emma were also interrupted while trying to kiss.


Miss Peregrine's POV

	"Did everyone make it back to the boat?" I shout. All of the Peculiars appear on deck.

	"We will need to find a new home. In the time I've been gone, I fear my loop has been lost", I inform them. Michael walks up to me.

	"I beg to differ", Michael remarks, "When your Ymbryne gets taken hostage and you don't know how long you'll take to rescue her, having another Ymbryne around comes in handy". He promptly turns into a dragon and flies away, heading in the direction of Cairnholm Island. It is then that I notice Sally isn't among the Peculiars on the ship.


Michael's POV

	I fly back to the island and land on the shore. I let out a roar before changing back to human form. Seconds later, my sister flies up to me in hummingbird form and changes back to her human form.

	"Everything is ready. Did you manage to rescue Miss Peregrine?", She asks.

	"Yep. The others will be arriving momentarily", I respond. The two of us watch as the boat heads towards the island and then docks close to where we are standing. Miss Peregrine and her wards climb off the boat and the two of us lead them across the island. When we lead them back into the loop, Miss Peregrine is awestruck.


Miss Peregrine's POV

	Sally walks over to me and hands me my timepiece.

	"I kept the loop going while you were away. I figure you'll want this back now", She explains. I can't help noticing she also managed to keep the house looking neat. Sally leads me into the house where I can smell dinner cooking. Then, I notice two boys and two girls I've never met before sitting in the living room.


Sally's POV

	"I'd like to introduce Penelope, Cassandra, Vector, and Cirrus. I met the four of them inside the cairn and they said they were looking for Miss Peregrine. When I was sure they weren't Wights, I revealed myself to them and brought them into the loop. I figured that's what any Ymbryne would do", Sally explains.

	"I prefer being called Penny", Penelope responds.

	"I prefer being called Cassie", Cassandra adds. The four of them demonstrate their Peculiarities for Miss Peregrine and the others. Penny can shrink and grow, Cassie can move at superhuman speed, Vector can phase through solid matter, and Cirrus has weather-control powers. Miss Peregrine welcomes the four of them into her house and everyone sits down for dinner.


Vector's POV

	The next morning, I am the first one awake. Penny, Cassie, and Cirrus wake up a short time later.

	"Miss Humming has sure done a lot for us and for Miss Peregrine. I think the four of us should make breakfast for her", I suggest. Penny, Cassie, and Cirrus all agree with me. We head into the kitchen and get to work. By the time Miss Humming, Miss Peregrine, Michael, and the rest of the Peculiars wake up, the four of us have a huge feast prepared.


Sally's POV

	I will admit it caught me off-guard when I woke up and found that the four Peculiars I took in had fixed breakfast. When I hear them refer to me as "Miss Humming" while talking to Miss Peregrine, I blush a little. Just as breakfast is finished, Miss Avocet arrives at the front door.


Miss Avocet's POV

	I walked into Miss Peregrine's house just as they were finishing their breakfast. There are four Peculiar children I've never met before collecting the dishes.

	"I came here to discuss Saladora's Ymbryne training", I announce. One of the four new Peculiars, a boy with white hair wearing a jet black outfit, approaches me.

	"If you mean Miss Humming, I think she already knows everything. She took the four of us in while Miss Peregrine was away and successfully reset the loop", the boy explains. He introduces himself as Vector and the other 3 new Peculiars as Penny, Cassie, and Cirrus. I notice Saladora blushing. I approach Miss Peregrine.

	"Is what the boy says correct?", I ask her.

	"Every word of it", Miss Peregrine answers, "Saladora has shown a greater understanding of her Ymbryne powers than I could have ever imagined. As I am indebted to her for keeping my time loop from closing, I hereby request permission to finish teaching Saladora myself".

	"Permission granted", I respond. It seems to me that this means a lot, both to Saladora and to Miss Peregrine. Seeing as my work here is done, I transform back to avocet form and fly back to my own loop and wards.


Michael's POV

	After Miss Avocet leaves, Miss Peregrine asks Sally to come with her. The two of them transform to their respective bird forms and fly off somewhere. The rest of us head outside to enjoy the day. Olive approaches me.

	"We still never got to kiss", She reminds me. I notice Jacob and Emma standing nearby enjoying a kiss.

	"If you can't beat'em, join'em", I remark, and then me and Olive lock lips. A burst of flame begins to surround us and I notice I'm starting to transform. Olive doesn't seem to care, so I continue with the kiss even though my face is mostly dragon now. When we finally separate, my face returns to normal and the flames vanish.


Vector's POV

	I stand beside Penny, Cassie and Cirrus as we watch Miss Humming's brother and Olive kissing while surrounded by fire. Seeing that makes me almost want to kiss Miss Humming. I'll admit I found her attractive when we first met her. She seems to be a lot younger than the other Ymbrynes. After Michael and Olive end their kiss, I begin a discussion with Penny, Cassie, and Cirrus.


Sally's POV

	Miss Peregrine shows me a few more things that Ymbrynes can do and teaches me how to create a time loop. Once I am able to make one on my own, she helps me pick out the right place and time to make mine. She then gifts me with a timepiece near-identical to hers.

	"Miss Avocet wanted you to have that", She explains.

	We return to her house and land near where my brother is standing, changing back to out human forms.

	"I've made my own loop", I let Michael know. Penny, Cassie, Vector, and Cirrus approach me and Miss Peregrine.

	"In that case, the four of us have made a decision", Vector announces, "We have decided we want to be Miss Humming's wards. Is that okay Miss Peregrine?".

	"I figured you four would decide that", Miss Peregrine responds, "Saladora, or should I say Miss Humming, will make a fine headmistress for you four". Miss Peregrine walks over to Michael next.

	"I take it you are going to go with your sister and her wards. They are gonna need you to help protect them and their loop from Hollows and Wights", Miss Peregrine tells him.

	"I had that in mind", Michael responds. He transforms to dragon form.

	"Penny, Cassie, Vector, and Cirrus We better be going. My loop awaits", I announce. The four of them climb onto my brother's back.

	"Follow me to my loop", I tell them. With that, I transform to hummingbird form, and the six of us leave Miss Peregrine's loop behind.
