  1. "Sunny."
  2. >You are Anon
  3. >"...."
  4. "Suuuunnyyyyyy."
  5. >"........."
  6. >And you have a very mopey girlfriend
  7. >It's been a week or two since your impromptu hospital stay
  8. >Ever since, your girlfriend's been in a funk, even after helping you get back on your feet and even staying at your place a few nights to make sure you weren't struggling with the backlog of homework or any lingering effects from being blasted in the chest with lightning
  9. "SUNSET!"
  10. >"WHAT!?"
  11. >You sigh and apply palm to face as her wild looks for danger and impromptu fighting pose slowly come back to reality with the rest of the world, a sheepish look on her face as her body relaxes
  12. >"Um, I mean, yes?"
  13. >Cute, but futile
  14. "Seriously? I've been trying to talk to you this whole time, but you've been sandbagging me all through lunch."
  15. >You jab a spaghetti-wrapped for in her direction, elbows resting on the lunch table
  16. "And you haven't touched your food. So spill, what's eating you?"
  17. >Another sigh passes her lips as she takes a half-hearted nibble at her salad
  18. >"You got hurt becau-"
  19. "Sunny, I love you, but if you say that me throwing myself between you and the super-dorks was your fault, I'm gonna... I dunno, boop your nose or something. Been over this already when you weren't listening. I did it because I wanted to."
  20. >You stretch a hand across the table and link fingers with her
  21. "Because I saw you getting hurt. Because the thought of you... well, if anything happened to you, I wouldn't know what to do with myself..."
  22. >The pad of your thumb strokes over the back of Sunset's hand
  23. >It's a small comfort, but you're doing what you can for her
  24. >Her fingers lock onto yours in a death grip, her shimmering eyes locked with yours as you sit in silence again
  25. >But this time, she isn't silent alone
  26. >Something quirks at the corner of her mouth
  27. >Why, I do believe that's a smile!
  28. >"So... love, huh?"
  29. >O-Oh
  30. >Yeah, you'd, uh, you'd definitely said Love
  31. >Not love, but Love, capital L
  32. >Did it suddenly get hot in here?
  33. >Must be, like, a million degrees
  34. >You lick your lips and swallow nervously, struggling to respond, when Sunset places her free hand on top of your entwined pair
  35. >She's smiling...
  36. >"I think I can work with Love..."
  37. >.....
  38. >You think your heart is going to explode out of your chest!
  39. >Time is frozen, the world is a drab backdrop compared to her, that smile, those eyes...
  40. >This is the greatest moment of your life!
  41.
  42. >"Hey, dude, I thought I told you not to talk to her anymore!"
  43.
  44. >....
  45. >Well, now someone's got to die.
  46. >And that someone is Flash, your not-really-nemesis
  47. >Honestly though, right now you hate him way more than Electro, and that bitch put you in a hospital!
  48. >You try to scare him off with a wordless glare as he and his goons approach your table
  49. >Oh hey it worked!
  50. >Wait, he's not looking at you...
  51. >Oh, oh wow, Sunny's just murdering him with her eyes
  52. >"Flash? I'm going to give you one chance. Close your mouth and crawl back into your own asshole where you belong"
  53. >That's not a good tone...
  54. >Sunny's never even spoken like that with supervillains!
  55. "Uh, dude? You should do what she says..."
  56. >Yeah, the sooner he leaves, the sooner your girlfriend stops crushing your hand with spider-strength
  57. >Owie ow ow
  58. >You think for a moment that you see his lips move, but his face is swiftly replaced with Sunset's fist, a gout of blood blossoming across her knuckles as the King of Canterlot hits the cafeteria floor with a pretty satisfying 'THUMP'
  59. >....
  60.
  61. >K.O.!
  62.
  63. >A hush falls over the crowd
  64. >Sunset's just standing there with a bloodied fist clenched tightly at her side, her multi-colored locks hiding her expression
  65. >Yeah, no, that's not good
  66. >You stand up and take her by her other hand, quietly guiding her out of the cafeteria and through the halls, to the nearest water fountain
  67. >That uncomfortable quiet hangs between the two of you like a heavy sheet while you carefully run cool water over her hand, cleaning away the blood and her split open knuckles
  68. >Already, you can see the little cuts closing back up as her healing factor activates
  69. >"......"
  70. "Does your hand hurt?"
  71. >Sunset shakes her head as you dry her hand with your shirt, feigning checking over it to stall for time as you think of what to say
  72. "You probably shouldn't have done that."
  73. >".... Sorry..."
  74. >You just shake your head, looking away from her healed hand to brush her bangs from her face and look your girlfriend in the eyes
  75. >Even when she's miserable, she's still beautiful
  76. >Rarity probably knew some fancy word for it, but to you, it was just sad
  77. "I know you're a super hero, Sunny, but you can't keep making your well-being a low priority. You probably just shot your good-girl school appearance in the foot by punching out the most popular guy in school."
  78. >Leaning in, you place a brief kiss on her cheek
  79. "But, on the plus side, there's no way he's going to tell any teachers that he just got laid out by his gorgeous ex-girlfriend for picking on her new boyfriend. So no detention. Probably."
  80. >That gets you a tiny smile, which you consider a pretty big victory
  81. >Tugging at her hand, you start leading her back towards the nurse's office
  82. "C'mon, I'll tell the nurse I'm not feeling well and we can get some food. My treat."
  83. >Sunset rolls her eyes, but doesn't pull away
  84. >"You're going to fall behind if you keep using Electro's attack to skip classes."
  85. >Ah, but now to reveal your cunning charm!
  86. >With a grin, you turn and boop her nose, making her cross-eyed
  87. "Then it's a good thing I have such a brilliant tutor~"
  88. >When her brain reboops, she registers the compliment and blushes, looking away
  89. >"You're an idiot..."
  90. "But I'm /your/ idiot~"
  91. >Her grip on you tightens
  92. >"Definitely"
  93. >Score
  94.
  95. >"And, ah, Anon?"
  96. "Yes, this is Anon speaking?"
  97. >That earns you a punch to the shoulder and a cute giggle
  98. >Owie...
  99. >"Idiot, this is important!"
  100. >The tone of her voice makes you freeze and turn
  101. >You can see Sunset take a breath and close her eyes
  102. >"After dinner.... I want to come back to your place."
  103. >Oh?
  104. >How lewd~
  105. >Wait, she's still going
  106. >"I... I want to tell you. About me. Not just my powers..."
  107. >Those seafoam eyes swallow your attention, clear and focused
  108. >"I want you to know who Sunset Shimmer really is."
  109.
  110. >You are Anon
  111. >And you are dating an extra-dimensional magic horse
  112. >A little imaginary Sunny corrects you in your head
  113. >"PONY!"
  114. >Pony, right
  115. >Sunset Shimmer is a kinda-but-not-really banished unicorn who was a step removed from actual royalty
  116. >You stand in the kitchen as Sunset rests in your bed, recovering from the day's events
  117. >It'd taken some Indiana Jones shit to wiggle free of her cuddling grasp, but you were hungry and needed to do some thinking
  118. >When did your life switch from complete anonymity to being the secret keeper for not only Spider-Woman, but an entire dimension of colorful equines?
  119. >You tug open the fridge and pull out a water
  120. >Normally it'd be soda, but Sunset's healthy lifestyle was starting to rub off on you
  121. >Standing there, in the cold light of the fridge, you think
  122. >The Canterlot Seven, Sunset excluded, already knew about the pony thing
  123. >They were her closest friends, after all
  124. >And now there was you
  125. >You take a swig of water to help clear your head
  126. >Out of habit, you glance at your phone, noticing a missed message
  127. >Huh, must of missed it when you were locked into Sunny's death-grip
  128. >You wonder if her strength was spider-induced, emotionally wrought, or if ponies were naturally strong cuddlers
  129. >You'd have to ask her
  130. >Tapping the screen, you put the answering machine on speaker
  131.
  132. >As you listen to the electronic voice on the other end, a cold weight drops in your guts
  133. >No way
  134. >Why now?
  135. >"This is a message from the desk of Sombra Osborn."
  136. >The electronic voice goes silent and instead a masculine voice speaks up, dredging up years worth of memories
  137.
  138. "Anonymous, this is your father speaking. Speak to me tomorrow, at my office."
