  1. [11:03:15] Rosaline wasn't about to give up yet. Beating Chloe wasn't enough to prove her strength to herself. Training wasn't a one time thing, it was a lifestyle!
  2.
  3. She was quite a sight to anyone who dared walk into Frostvale at this time of day. A poor tree stood before her, a soon-to-be-victim. Her fur cloak was discarded at her feet and the gauntlets of her armor lay beside it, revealing two mangled, scarred arms. Burn marks and mutilations were inumerable, and in place of her left hand was a prosthetic made of pure metal.
  4.
  5. But these scars didn't stop her! The sound of brittle, frozen bark snapping and cracking echoed throughout Frostvale as Rosaline reeled her fists back and delivered a flurry of earthshattering punches to the trunk of the evergreen.
  6.
  7. FWOOSH!
  8.
  9. And then it caught on fire. Shit. Shit!
  10.
  11. "SHIT!"
  12. (Rosaline)
  13. [11:14:20] It wasn't often that Kafsel found himself in cities, and it was even rarer for the city to be Frostvale. Alas, Kafsel was reconsidering visiting the city more often, as he witnessed a woman beating a tree like it owed her money.
  14.
  15. As Kafsel got closer, he realized knew the woman that slowly wittled away at the trunk with her fists. The scars running along her arms, the tattoo under her eye.
  16.
  17. He was about to greet her, when one of Rosaline's vicious blows ignited the tree. Kafsel watched, a bit taken back by the spontaneity of seeing an old acquaintance's fists capable of causing combustion.
  18.
  19. Kafsel knelt down, placing both hands in the snow, before sending out a little blast of wind that sent the powdery element over the tree, putting out the majority of the flames.
  20.
  21. "Does that always happen?" Kafsel asked, looking at the myriads of gashes the tree sustained from Rosaline's training. "The fire, not the tree punching."
  22. (Kafsel)
  23. [11:22:01] Even after Kafsel puts out most of the fire, she's still panicking! Two arms are raised up in the air and Rosaline scrambles around, spitting out incomprehinsable curses thick with a foreign accent.
  24.
  25. "Thos! Thos! Tsaj ym kcal! Kcaf auy, iirt!" She spins around on her heels, delivering a few quick punches to the air. Wind erupts from her fists, blowing out the remaining slivers of fire.
  26.
  27. She huffs, takes in a deep breath, and turns to greet Kafsel with a smile! Her anger seemed to fizzle out all at once.
  28.
  29. "No, no, the fire is only a periodical thing. Sometimes, out of habit, I accidentally channel fire magic through my muscles instead of muscle magic and it catches things on fire. Good thing it was not a person."
  30. (Rosaline)
  31. [11:31:24] Each of the foreign swears fell on deaf ears. Kafsel tried to interpret it, but nothing came to mind after she'd finished. He smiled readily in return, almost as if he hadn't even seen her tantrum seconds earlier :)
  32.
  33. "That sounds painful, remind me to buy you a drink if I ever see you at the inn. I'd like you on my side in case of a bar fight."
  34.
  35. Kafsel looked back at the heavily damaged tree.
  36.
  37. "So, is that all for fun, or did that tree do something to you?"
  38. (Kafsel)
  39. [11:32:16] Lorenzo Flouren: (all hail the Lorenzo)
  40. [11:32:16] Kiela Xemi-Kosigona: ( no, you stole my Nadya
  41. [11:34:49] Kiela Xemi-Kosigona: ( If only Nadya still played, I'd steal her back from you
  42. [11:35:40] Rosaline smiled back! It's almost as if she hadn't had a tantrum seconds earlier :)
  43.
  44. "It is fun, sure, but I do it for more than that. I have suffered from a complete and utter laziness for years, and as a result, my muscles have withered. They are big now, yes," as if on cue, she flexed! "but they used to be eons larger."
  45.
  46. "I must regain my former strength! I must train until there are no more trees to punch! I would have been slicing at it with my sword, but I do not want to dull the metal... or cut up the tree."
  47. (Rosaline)
  48. [11:36:32] Kiela Xemi-Kosigona: ( -hug-
  49. [11:38:14] Raziel Cifer: it's somewhat annoying to play a child I can't wait till im older)
  50. [11:39:05] Mephis Talos: ((xD
  51. [11:45:55] As it turned out, the woman had a completely rational reason for punching the tree.
  52.
  53. "I see, I see." Kafsel said, nodding empathetically after she had clarified. "How do you know when you're done training? Do you gauge your strength by the size of the tree you're against?"
  54.
  55. Kafsel wasn't exactly satisfied with his own lanky build, maybe it was time to get into oak brawling.
  56.
  57. "I'd also imagine that hurts. How do you ignore the pain?" Kafsel asked, glancing at the knuckles on her good hand.
  58. (Kafsel)
  59. [11:47:37] Lorenzo Flouren: (Three more RPP for Greater Mudslide bruh)
  60. [11:47:37] Lorenzo Flouren: (Be my earthy son)
  61. [11:47:37] Lorenzo Flouren: (BE MY EARTHY SON)
  62. [11:48:28] Lorenzo Flouren: (Hnn, the best way you're gonna get Lorenzo to be your aprent doh is to ask him)
  63. [11:48:28] Lorenzo Flouren: (Literally, jsut ask him and he'll look you upand down and be like "Hmph.. Okay Son")
  64. [11:51:02] Rosaline laughed! Apparently, what Kafsel had said was completely gut-busting hilarious. After an awkwardly long time passed, she ceased, crossing her arms in front of her.
  65.
  66. "Well, you're never done! If you stop training, your muscles will think you're done with them and they'll get weak again. You have to stay in shape, not just get in shape."
  67.
  68. She glanced down at her left arm. The bicep was ravaged by black, twisted and charred skin that never quite healed. Nasty gashes from years ago zigzagged down the muscle, going nearly half an inch deep.
  69.
  70. "The pain part... Well. A long time ago, an angry drakanite ripped out a chunk of my muscle. The nerves were sort of fried in the process, so this part of my arm always hurts. It's something I learned to live with, right? Same thing with punching that tree. I know it's gotta hurt if I want to improve, so I just deal with it."
  71.
  72. "I've been doing this for a long time, if you can't tell."
  73. (Rosaline)
  74. [11:55:18] Lorenzo Flouren: (Flouren will be your only name fool, now I must take a shit)
  75. [11:58:43] Lorenzo Flouren: (Mephis let's RP la-- OSCURI SCUM!)
  76. [12:00:25] Just as quick as Kafsel began considering taking up training his body, he was already rethinking it. It sounded like an awful amount of work, and he was already pretty dedicated to his meditations.
  77.
  78. "How do you find time to train your magic and your body?" Kafsel asked.
  79.
  80. After hearing the cause of the damage done to her arm, Kafsel shook his head.
  81.
  82. "You live with it on a daily basis? I know this is a silly question, but have you ever sought healing? Alchemic, maybe magic?"
  83. (Kafsel)
  84. [12:03:50] "I don't really have a job anymore. I mean, I get paychecks from Byson, but the only thing I do to earn that is be here! So... yeah, I have all the time in the world."
  85.
  86. She began to pick up her things off the ground when the second question was prompted. Her coat, lined with fur and fit for Frostvale, was slid back over her shoulders.
  87.
  88. "See, I used to be in a mercenary crew. We cleared out an old mine of some bandits, and the leader took a chunk out of my arm. A big chunk. It was so bad that if I didn't get it healed then by my... friend, it would either bleed out or have to be amputated. He was an exorcist, but the cuts were so far in that he couldn't just magically create muscle or nerves. I mean, unless someone has the magic to do that... I don't think anything can help."
  89.
  90. She shrugged, her hands sliding into her pockets.
  91.
  92. "It doesn't bother me much anymore, anyway. It's just an ache."
  93. (Rosaline)
  94. [12:14:04] The woman had her whole life cut out for her. Kafsel could only imagine the type of work that'd be demanded from employers that it'd take to earn that sort of continuous place on the payroll, it'd explain the severity of the scars she bore.
  95.
  96. Then, like a response to his thoughts, she was already sharing her war story. Kafsel listened to the details, before saying, "I understand. It's sorta like a mixed blessing, I suppose."
  97.
  98. Kafsel briefly pondered the possibilities of treatments, but numbing agents weren't as popular as one might expect. At least, readily available and effective ones.
  99.
  100. "You don't look too old, how long were you in the merc business?" Kafsel added, suddenly taking more of an interest in the woman's colorful past. "I haven't met any mercenaries with prospects like yours. Most of them are thugs, to be frank."
  101. (Kafsel)
  102. [12:20:03] Rosaline quirked her brows.
  103.
  104. "For a long time, I guess. I ran the thing. It was called the Unconquered -- we had reaches far and wide. I started it up when I was like... eighteen, and it was succesful for a long time. We had people from Brighthold, Danarium, Tilandre... It was amazing."
  105.
  106. "But I think it took four or five years for it to fall through. It felt like so much longer... but something happened." Her gaze darkened. She turned to stare at her feet. That was as far as she was going to share. "So it disbanded."
  107.
  108. She grew silent for a moment, lips pursing in thought.
  109.
  110. "But I suppose I'm still a mercenary at heart. I work for whoever has my interests, whether it be in morals or crowns."
  111. (Rosaline)
  112. [12:34:33] It was impressive track record to have, it made Kafsel feel a tad lazy in comparison. He nodded his head in praise to the woman.
  113.
  114. "I hope you don't mind me asking," Kafsel began, noticing the way she distanced her self from some event. "but where are the others that were apart of The Unconquered?"
  115.
  116. Something extraordinarily bad must've happened. It was clear that Rosaline has had some rough moments in her life, but Kafsel felt it impolite to ask any further.
  117. (Kafsel)
  118. [12:37:07] "Quite a few of them are in the Whitecloaks. Some of them disappeared off of the face of the planet. There's one or two still in Tilandre..." Her expression twisted in a scowl. "But I'm still friends with most of them. It was -- "
  119.
  120. She huffed.
  121.
  122. "It just couldn't go on forever, you know? You can only grow so much from something before it goes too far. Before it just goes stagnant and awkward and no one can look at Cain the same w -- That's off of the subject! Yes, most of them are in the Whitecloaks now," she repeated with an insistent nod of her head.
  123. (Rosaline)
  124. [12:47:21] Kafsel blinked, getting a semblance of the whole picture. He's heard of the other factions in passing, but due to his nomadic lifestlye, never had the chance to actually look into.
  125.
  126. "It's good to hear that most of them are sticking together, it's always nice to have friends close." Kafsel responded, casually dismissing the name Cain. "Thanks for sharing with me~. I love hearing about people's histories."
  127.
  128. He grinned lightly, bowing his head out of appreciation.
  129. (Kafsel)
  130. [12:51:37] Rosaline shrugged.
  131.
  132. "History is something that should be readily available to all people. You learn from it, right? Maybe you'll learn something from my history, I don't know. There's a lot more to it... but I'll save that for later. Telling you the whole story all at once will make it hard to soak it in!"
  133.
  134. She grinned at her friend.
  135.
  136. "But I oughta be going. I have to tend to some political things," she began, her stare moving over to fixate on Sebastian, "while I have the chance. I'll talk to you later, alright?"
  137. (Rosaline)
