- [8:27 PM] Leafia_Barrett: so, per the usual, I have a vision in my head of a thing
- [8:27 PM] Leafia_Barrett: this time, the end of the Gaia fight
- [8:28 PM] Leafia_Barrett: before the DoG shows up
- [8:29 PM] Leafia_Barrett: and hear me out on this
- [8:29 PM] Leafia_Barrett: where Gaia starts trying to get back on her feet after being knocked out of the sky by one thing or another, and then she just... stops and sits down instead, shakes her head, and surrenders
- [8:29 PM] Leafia_Barrett: like, actually legitimately surrenders
- [8:29 PM] Leafia_Barrett: back in WJ, the group never fought Gaia
- [8:30 PM] Leafia_Barrett: they didn't show that they were strong, they just hid behind another god
- [8:30 PM] Leafia_Barrett: they didn't "play fair", so to speak
- [8:31 PM] Leafia_Barrett: and so neither did she, hence the elaborate setup that brought Calamitas into the picture back then
- [8:31 PM] Leafia_Barrett: and yes the implications of that are as puerile as they seem, Gaia is not the most mature god ever
- [8:31 PM] Leafia_Barrett: this time, though?
- [8:31 PM] Leafia_Barrett: we didn't run
- [8:31 PM] Leafia_Barrett: we hid behind nobody
- [8:32 PM] Leafia_Barrett: we accepted her challenge, and we stood and fought, and we came out on top
- [8:32 PM] Leafia_Barrett: her mightiest warriors are dead, her power is nearly exhausted
- [8:33 PM] Leafia_Barrett: and she has no choice but to admit that, to quote her for this scene, "The Age of Gods has drawn to a close on Terra."
- [8:34 PM] Leafia_Barrett: because at this point, we legitimately possess the strength and resourcefulness to hold our own against the celestials themselves
- [8:37 PM] Leafia_Barrett: if she was going to be truly petty she could claim that it wasn't our power that led us to victory, but our tools, but like
- [8:37 PM] Leafia_Barrett: well one, Solacia
- [8:37 PM] Leafia_Barrett: and two, she watched humanity evolve
- [8:37 PM] Leafia_Barrett: saying "your tools won you the battle, not your power" is like saying to her that "her magic won her a battle, not her power"
- [8:39 PM] Leafia_Barrett: humans as creatures are physically not all that powerful, and even Solacia has up to this point relied a lot on an invention of her own to bolster her magical strength beyond its normal limits
- [8:39 PM] Leafia_Barrett: we're inventors, we're engineers, we're craftsmen
- [8:40 PM] Leafia_Barrett: our tools are as much a part of us as our limbs
- [8:41 PM] Kiri: 'Power is barely a fraction of what it takes to achieve victory.'
- [8:41 PM] Leafia_Barrett: I could make a LoZ joke here and it wouldn't sound out of place
- [8:43 PM] Leafia_Barrett: it's important to point out, though
- [8:43 PM] Leafia_Barrett: "The Age of Gods" ending does not mean that gods are no longer welcome
- [8:43 PM] Leafia_Barrett: just that they don't control us any more
- [8:44 PM] Leafia_Barrett: Plantera has a role, he carries it out and is perfectly content with his place in relation to the planet and its inhabitants
- [8:45 PM] Leafia_Barrett: [it helps that a lot of his mandates are sensible enough to be written into law anyhow, he doesn't really ask for much besides "don't blow up the planet you idiots" and "don't flatten the jungles, they're kinda important"]
- [8:46 PM] Kiri: yeah
- [8:46 PM] Leafia_Barrett: he lives in harmony with mankind because he has no desire to control them
- [8:47 PM] Leafia_Barrett: if anything he's actually part of society
- [8:48 PM] Leafia_Barrett: I believe I mentioned a while back that as written in international law, he is primarily in charge of overseeing chlorophyte mining and distribution
- [8:48 PM] Leafia_Barrett: because it makes sense
- [8:49 PM] Leafia_Barrett: I'm considering backpedaling on the Leviathan death, it seems pointless in retrospect
- [8:50 PM] Leafia_Barrett: she just sorta buggers off after Abyssion is defeated
- [8:50 PM] Leafia_Barrett: goes to find a nice trench to go to bed in for a few decades
- [8:51 PM] Leafia_Barrett: she's spent multiple millenia on constant vigil
- [8:52 PM] Leafia_Barrett: just because her methods were... heavy-handed doesn't mean she wasn't genuinely doing her job in what she considered to be the best method
- [8:52 PM] Leafia_Barrett: now her task is done and she's got a couple centuries of sleep debt to pay off
- [8:55 PM] Leafia_Barrett: this is the way in which I come up with plot ideas
- [8:55 PM] Leafia_Barrett: I just sorta start discussing with someone until something coherent comes out of my brain
