- DELTA p. 281 - Description of score levels for independent speaking.
- ---
- Sample task 1: “Talk about a skill you would like to learn. Why would you like to learn it? Use details and examples to support your answer.”
- Your response should have these parts:
- 1 Introduction: answer the question (“I would love to know how to play the violin.”)
- (sometimes you will also need to spend a sentence describing your answer)
- 2 Lead-in (“I have two reasons for this opinion.”)
- 3 First reason (“First, my mom and my grandfather both play the violin.”)
- 4 detail/example (“Violin music has been a part of family gatherings since I was a child, and I want to continue that tradition.”)
- 5 Second reason (“Second, all of my favorite music is violin music.”)
- 6 detail/example (“Learning to play myself would allow me to learn and perform some of my favorite songs.”)
- (7 Conclusion - if there’s time)
- ---
- For task 2, remember that a reason for one option can be a disadvantage of the other option.
- ---
- During your 15 seconds of preparation, write:
- play violin
- - family - mom and grandfather
- - favorite music = violin music

- BREAK
- ---
- DELTA p. 278 - Take 30 seconds for each prompt to write a mini-outline like the one above.
- ---
- Walk around and ask your classmates to tell you their responses to these prompts. Try to talk to everyone else in the class, and don’t respond to the same question more than once. You can time yourself or watch the timer on the board.
- ---
- Record your responses to independent speaking on test 5 for ETS 1 and ETS 2.
- Listen to your classmates’ responses. Did they include all the parts? Were they easy to understand?
