- Novice Review:
- Theres some stuff you should work on before ranking up.
- At novice, we expect some form of detailed terrain, well done organics and structure that includes depth, detailing and quality.
- This plot unfortunately has little to none of that.
- Fill your plot up with terrain.
- At this rank you have world edit. Thats a huge help when making terrain! Do [//br sphere stone] while holding a stick, and that will give you what is called a brush of stone. Brushes help when making terrain for a large area, but be careful. The way the brush brushes the spheres on to your plot is very recognizable to the mods and other builders, so you'll want to smooth out your terrain as best you can by hand once the terrain's basic shape is done.
- Dont just do a hill at the edge of your plot :p be creative with the shapes you can make with it!
- After the basic shape of the terrain is done, and youre done smoothing the terrain out by hand, you should probably overlay the terrain with a top layer of grass, or something that you would want to use as a top layer. Careful not to make it too messy though :p
- Add structures!
- Structures are the backbone of building! In whatever style or theme you want, add multiple structures to your plot! Googling reference pictures for structures is a good idea, but make sure not to copy other peoples work! Copying work is unfair to other builders, so dont do it!
- When making your structure. be sure to use a well balanced palette! What that means, it to choose the blocks that go in to your build that go well together! Blocks that compliment each other (like oak logs and cobble stone for medieval style).
- When making structure, its important to have depth in your structure and to have it detailed properly.
- Depth is when theres a sense of deepness to the build, and theres multiple layers on one wall.
- Detailing is when your build is accented with stairs, slabs, fences or even buttons! Its important to detail your builds appropriately, over detailing can lead to your build looking messy and unfinished, and we dont want that :p
- Finally, organics!
- "Organic" is an umbrella term for anything that that would be alive, or has been alive in real life! So, animals, people, trees, flowers, skeletons, you name it xD
- Organics are hard to make in minecraft, since everything is blocks, but when it's done right they look awesome!
- Trees are the most basic organic, ill explain those.
- To make a tree, youll have to build up with your logs, making the bottom the thickest part, and the top being thinner. Tree trunks are normally bending to one side or another to get the most sunlight, so thats something we want to recreate in minecraft. So if you tree is bending slightly, awesome! Its good to have it not going straight up! From the top if the trunk, you'll want to break you tree off in to different directions, making the branches nice and long (but not too long!), and have smaller branches break off from the bigger ones. This will help create a nice head of leaves for your tree! Make sure to have the branches nice and smooth too.
- To make the leaves, ill show you a trick with world edit!
- Hold a stick and type this command in chat: [//mask air]
- Then type this one: [//br sphere 20%leaves,80%air]
- Then click away at your tree! The brush command that i showed you earlier is very useful, and can be applied a lot of different ways! If you dont want to use it, thats fine too! Just make sure that your leaves have a nice shape to them!
- The reason why i said to [//mask air] is because the brush tool takes priority over other blocks in its way, so when you do that command, it protects them! And we dont want the nice tree you made to get ruined!
- I hope this helps! And good luck with you plot!!
