There we are; a candlelit thanksgiving dinner for two. What more could you ask for, right, sweetheart? Well… yeah, family would be nice. Between my half being across the country and your half being… well, y’know… I suppose this does make for a bit of a lonely holiday. And yes, yeah, electricity would be nice. Furniture would be nice as well; sitting around some boxes on this bare apartment floor isn’t exactly ideal, but… well, we knew what we were getting into when we moved in here, right? It’s going to be tough, starting up from scratch. We’re really going to be pulling ourselves up from the bootstrings on this one, babydoll, but hey… I wouldn’t rather be fighting this fight with anyone else. Or for anyone else, for that matter. No, don’t you go bringing that up; I walked away from that life to start a new one here, with you… and for all of your frowns, I’m feeling pretty freaking excited. How? How? Baby, look at us… we’re… us. We’re here. It’s you, and i can reach out and touch you whenever I want… I can- actually, you know what? It’s Thanksgiving… let’s do this properly, shall we?

In my family, we would all take turns going around the table saying everything we’re grateful for. So, raise your glass of apple juice with me, cutie pie, and sit tight. I’ve a LOT to be grateful for this year.

First and foremost, I’m thankful for having a sweet, and loving, and patient love like you, who’s willing to put up with my grandiose, corny gestures like this. I’m thankful for this opportunity to start anew, to leave my past behind me, and to rewrite my future… with you in it. I’m thankful for this challenging time, to remind me that I’m alive, that life is worth living, and that there are people worth fighting for. I’m thankful for the knowledge that there’s nowhere to go from here but up.. and that I’ll be heading up to where I’m meant to be with you by my side.

Now then, now that the corny stuff is out of the way, hehe, let’s get a little less abstract, yeah? I’m thankful for the electricity not being on yet, meaning our phones are dead and the TV won’t work, so I get you all to myself. I’m, ah, thankful that Safeway has firewood on sale right now, hehe. I’m thankful for the gas company taking extra long to set up our new apartment, because it means I get to test my falsetto out in the shower. It also means we get to cuddle up to stay warm. Speaking of… c’mere, babydoll. Mmn… that’s better. [Lower voice] I’m grateful for these extra thick walls in this new apartment, and that my beloved gets to finally be as loud as possible… isn’t that right, gorgeous? I’m thankful for safe words, and the knowledge that you rarely use them, and that, if all goes as planned, this speech of mine will really land and we’ll get a chance to properly break this new apartment in… every single room, too. Yeah, that’s right, eat up; you’re gonna need it.

Okay, okay, beautiful, calm down. I’ve got one more bit to go through and then you get the green light. No, it probably won’t be short… but I promise you that you’ll like it.









More than any of this… I’m thankful for you, babydoll. I’m thankful for those eyes that draw me in, for that smile that holds me still, and for that voice that calms my turbulent soul. I’m thankful that my chaos breaks upon you like waves against a calm shore, and that my demons go quiet at the sound of your name. I’m thankful that I can hold you when I want to hold you, laugh with you when I want to laugh with you… I’m thankful I can be quiet and still, with you in my arms or me in yours, and I can just let the world turn without having to worry about everything. I’m thankful that your depression keeps me fighting to keep you happy, I’m thankful that your anxiety keeps me searching for different things to prepare for, I’m thankful that your jealousy keeps me whole and secure, and I’m thankful that you let me turn your self-proclaimed faults into miracles. I’m thankful that you make me feel like I’m worth a damn, and that I’ve finally found a purpose in my life. I’m thankful for the way that look of yours confounds and intrigues me. like I’m not sure whether to lay you down or hold you tight.

I’m thankful for the way your hair parts for my fingers, for the way your skin tingles at my touch. I’m thankful for the way your eyes drift closed when I lean in t kiss you… [Kiss] and I’m thankful for the way your lips taste. I’m thankful for the way you’ll let me lie you down, yes baby, lie you down right here without bothering to finish dinner first, or even take you to the bedroom… we’ll get there, I promise. I’m thankful for the way your body feels under mine, so supple and yielding. I’m thankful for the way your hands naturally drift over your head, and the way your legs instinctively part for me… and the way it feels. so. right. when I press down against you like this. I’m thankful for the way you don’t mind that I don’t finish this speech, as I’ve found myself pretty distracted in the middle of it. I’m thankful for you, your love, and for the w-mmn… mmn.

[Chuckles and kissing sounds to fade]
