The only thing Hallow's better at than making a filling meal fit for an army is complaining. Much like herbs and spices, Hallow never seems to run out of fodder for his grumbling. Anything from the angle of the sun shining into his eyes while he's cooking to the quality of the seafood catch that week is liable to be fair game. There's little he won't remark on, even fleetingly -- in fact, the more inconsequential it is, the better, in his opinion.

Of course, it's more or less all for show or to keep himself amused. When he's not caught up in the hustle and bustle of feeding the whole lot of Clan Spectrae and can settle down to breathe a little, Hallow is quick to point out that he wouldn't do the job if he didn't love it. And he [i]does[/i] love it, a whole lot. When all's said and done and he can look out over a crowd of well-fed, smiling faces, well -- that's compensation enough for all his hard work, really.

To those who have worked alongside him for long enough, the complaining seems to be primarily a meditative tactic to help him keep focus. Most of Spectrae knows better than to take Hallow's grousing seriously. When Hallow goes all quiet for a while and starts flambeing everything, well, [i]that's[/i] when you'll know he's actually unhappy.
