57. Ten years after a global economic collapse, a cold-blooded drifter traverses the scorched Australian outback on a mission to track down the men who stole his last remaining possession - his car. When he crosses paths with a badly wounded member of the gang, he takes the vulnerable, naïve young man along as his unwitting accomplice.
 58. Guy Pierce character, without any remorse, stalks the three men who stole his car and left him abandoned. He acquired another car. Why find these men and retrieve his car? There are clues during the film for the end of the film where the answer to this question lays. During the film the main character sees dogs mistreated and shoots the man who mistreated them. This act was cleverly attached to a theft of a gun but once the end of the film comes, the watcher will understand. Also during the film the main character sits in an area where dogs are kept and shows a fondness for them. Now the ending. He opens the trunk of the car and retrieves a shovel and his (I suppose) dead dog. All along his pursuit was to show an act of kindness to his friend, his dog. "Man's best friend", and bury it.
 59. With a friend being a fan of the Twilight Saga film series, (a franchise which I've not seen a single minute of!)I decided to take a look on Amazon UK at the post-Twilight titles that lead actor Robert Pattinson has done, and I was intrigued to find that a gritty- looking Post-Apocalypse movie starring Pattinson had just come out on DVD,which led to me getting ready to jump into the Range Rover.

The plot:

The future-

Hit by a deep financial crisis, Australia turns into a lawless wasteland, with almost all government & law enforcement crumbling, and the Australian $ drowning in a sea of hyper-inflation.

10 Years later:

Appearing to be dead from a shootout,Rey is dumped on the side of the road by his brother and 2 gang members.Getting into a fight over Rey's death, the gang end up crashing their car.Looking round, the gang spot an abandoned car, which they break into, and start to drive out of town with.

Hearing his car get smashed, Eric rushes out to see his car get driven away.Kick starting the battered car left behind by the gang,Eric soon catches up with them.Pulling out his gun,Eric orders the gang to give him his car back.Deciding to give Eric the clearest response possible, the gang quickly knock him out,and drive off.Walking back into town,Eric finds a man called Rey laying at the side of the road barely breathing.Suspecting that Rey was involved with the gang,Eric picks Rey up,so that he can set off on the road again.

View on the film:

Backed by a hauntingly brittle score from Antony Partos,co- writer/(along with Joel Edgerton) director David Michôd and cinematographer Natasha Braier show their futuristic world to be one which is completely drained of optimism,by using merciless, static long take, which cast a bleak atmosphere across the title,as Michôd shows time to have stopped at a complete stand still, with there being no light on the horizon for the characters to place their hopes on.Along with the long static takes Michôd & Braier reveal an unflinching eye to the blunt violence which attacks the film with shots of Neo-Noir as every gun shot cracks across the screen and covers the characters hands with the blood of another life taken.

Covering the Post-Apocalypse land in a Neo-Noir heat, Michôd superbly uses dry reds and yellows to superbly show the decay that has infected the land.Splashing the burnt out colours across the screen, Michôd displays the hopelessness surrounding the land with vast wide shots which show the last remains of humanity crumbling away.

Keeping info on what led to the crash to a bare minimum, the screenplay by Michôd and Edgerton paints the title as an unrelenting Neo- Noir, with any sense of loyalty or family bond having gone long ago in the dust,to be replaced by a desperation to stay gripped to survival at any cost.Left to die by the side of the road, the writers make Eric & Rey's long drive one that is unable to free them from the shadows of the past,as Eric reveals himself to be a Film Noir loner who is weighed down by horrors he committed in the past, and Rey is unable to step off a path leading to darkness.

Wrapped in a burnt at the edges beard,Guy Pearce gives an incredible performance as Eric which perfectly displays the doom that Eric has sunk into, with Pearce using each of the long static takes to show the brutality buried deep within Eric's eyes.Entering the movie covered in dried up blood, Robert Pattinson gives an excellent performance as Rey,thanks to Pattinson perfectly balancing a feeling of excitement and deep unease,as Eric begins to realise that this is the last road that he will ever travel down.
 60. The story concept derives from an oft undermined premise of all those action movies where they characters steal or carjack other people's car so they can continue on. The movie tries to explore what happens if the car's owner decides to try and retake his/her vehicle back. The story rolls out so very lonesomely, with a dark and gloomy mood despite the bright coloration of the desert and the normal speed story flow pace. I really like how Robert Pattinson gets into character in this movie. After getting famous through the cold vampire character in the Twilight movies, it's time to reshape his image as an actor, and his character here, which he did very well, ca do that for him. Guy Pearce also did a great acting job, maintaining the cold and calm appearance, and also the accent and lower voice.
 61. Bleak, brutal and unrelentingly nihilist, and with only sporadic flashes of the blackest, most mordant humor to lighten the load, it feels parched, like the story has simply boiled away in the desert heat and all that’s left are its desiccated bones. In a good way.
