  1. When the room returns to normal, the warm sunlight paints the sunset in the classroom. You look down to Monika, who is quivering in your arms.
  2. “He… I saw my creator… He came out of that same void that tortured me…” Monika refuses to look at you, her tears streaming down from a face frozen in fear.
  3. “I… I…” Monika clutches her face, her nails digging into her forehead, enough to draw blood, which you see dripping from her delicate hands.
  4. Monika lets out a shrieking cry. Her tears pouring through her eyes, her hands grasping her face, as if she were trying to crush her own skull.
  5. Monika screamed from the bottom of her heart, and she kept screaming without pause. Her screams eventually quieted, but only because her delicate lungs couldn’t expel anymore air.
  6. Monika’s raspy cries echoed through the hall, and morphed into a gentle, broken wail. Her groans rung through your chest as she continued her mental deconstruction.
  7. You put a hand to her back, and she grows louder once more, only softening when she realizes it’s yours.
  8. After some time, Monika’s wails turn into a gentle cry. Her tears stain your shirt as she tries to bury herself deeper into you, begging for a safe space away from the wrath of her god.
  9. “Monika…” You squeeze her, wrapping both arms around her into a tight embrace. “I promise I’m going to protect you, alright? I’m going to get you out of here. We’re going to get away from him, alright?”
  10. “I don’t believe you, I can’t believe you.” Monika grasps at your shirt again, squeezing anything she can to grab a tighter hold of you.
  11. “Listen, it’s going to be alright, we can beat this guy. We can do this together.”
  12. “How do you know! How do you fucking think we can win against that?!” Monika snaps her head towards you, her eyes in a blazing glare. Her tears finally run dry, all you can see is their stain on her flushed cheeks.
  13. “Because I know you’re strong, Monika. And I know that together me and you can break this curse.”
  14. Monika looks back down and offers a pitiful smile. “Ahaha, I’m not strong… I can’t do anything. I’m just a high-school girl anon, what do you expect me to do…?”
  15. You kiss the top of Monika’s head. Her shaking subsides for a moment, then lessens overall. “I know you’re strong Monika. I’ve seen it in that brilliant head of yours. You’re so clever, and so brave, and I know you’ve been beaten down and broken but you’ve persevered in some sort of hope for freedom, I know that better than anyone else does.” She looks up at you, and you offer a reassuring smile.
  16. The tears start to well in her eyes again, but before they can, you wipe her cheeks with your thumb, caressing the side of her face with your palm.
  17. She moves her hands to yours and nuzzles her cheek into your palm. Her face is gentle, but all the weight of her pain almost crushes your hand as she lets her unspoken thoughts bleed into you.
  18. “You are so clever, so wise. You can do this Monika, and I’ll be here to back you up.” You move your hand to the top of her head and gently pet her.
  19. Monika stays quiet for some time, then smiles. “I don’t have any reason to trust you, yet I feel so safe around you...” Monika finds the strength to stand, and she gets to her feet, with you not close behind.
  20. “Alright. I’ll put my trust in you. You better not blow this though, or I’ll have to scold you Anon! Ahaha!~” Monika forces her laugh out, but you can still see the fear in her body as she quivers slightly.
  21. You look at her, a broken mess of fearful tears. Her body a wreck, her mind probably much more.
  22. You reach out for her hand, and her fingers snap to yours, interlocking and squeezing them tight.
  23. You sigh and look over the poor girl once more. You look to the sky, the sun now hidden beyond the horizon. The only light coming from the stalwart glow of the moon and its stars.
  24. “Alright Monika, let’s go.” You go to take your hand away, but hers doesn’t budge. Every time you get a little leeway, she moves closer to you and grasps it again.
  25. “You look down at her, and she looks away. She places your hand to her chest, and she clasps it with both hands. She hugs your arm tight, then looks up at you.
  26. “Please don’t leave me alone, not again…” Monika’s eyes start to tear up once more. “Please, Anon…”
  27. You sigh once more. You can’t help but smile at the girl, her broken mind like a cement to your long-beaten heart.
  28. “Alright, I won’t go. Why don’t I stay over at your house tonight? That way, I can protect you if anything happens.”
  29. Monika doesn’t say anything, and only nods. You two walk out of the school, and head towards Monika’s house.
  30. A while later you two arrive and get ready for bed. After you finish changing, you sit outside of Monika’s room waiting for her to change. She opens the door and pokes her head out of the frame. “Alright, you can come in now.~”
  31. She shuts the door after giggling at the confused expression on your face. You shrug and enter the room, expecting the worst.
  32. “Ready for bed?” You ask as you look over what she’s put on.
  33. Monika’s body is draped in silken cloths, all pink with speckled white dots. Her shirt, buttoned up all the way to the top hides her more than modest chest, while her bottoms do the opposite, curving around her hips and accentuating her supple bottom.
  34. “Yeah, let’s head to bed.” Monika crawls into her bed. You begin to step out of the room, but you hear a pat behind you.
  35. You look over to Monika snuggled up to her chin in blankets, a childlike grin leaking from her normally composed face.
  36. “Come on Anon, you said you’d protect me, remember? How are you supposed to protect me if you’re all the way downstairs?”
  37. You look at her and the space next to her, the covers folded on its corner. You chuckle a bit, then climb inside, draping the covers over yourself.
  38. “There. Well, this is probably comfier than the couch anyway.” You lay on your back, putting your arms behind your head.
  39. “Hey, don’t diss my stuff like that, I’ll have you know my couch is very comfy!”
  40. “Oh? Then maybe I should go check it out then.”
  41. “Noo!” Monika playfully dives onto your chest, her arms outstretched over the side of the bed.
  42. You take some time to look over Monika’s room. It’s a gaudy pink, decorated with posters of various boy bands and littered with small trinkets and stuffed animals.
  43. “Hey Anon, can you turn the light off? I can’t sleep with it on.” Monika rolls off of you and back to her position, laying with her belly to you.
  44. “Oh. Yeah, sure.” You reach for the lamp on the nightstand and shut it off, and the room goes dark. You notice a small night-light plugged into the wall on the other side of the room, but you decide not to tease her about it.
  45. Your eyes shift to the roof. Several faintly glowing green stars and crescent moons are glued to the ceiling, their fluorescence doing little to satiate the darkness consuming the room.
  46. You move your arms back behind your head and shift around a little, trying to get comfy. Your feet hang out of the blankets, and it makes you wonder when the last time she made any changes to the childish room.
  47. Monika places her head on your shoulder. You look down to her, and she looks up at you. Her eyes sparkle even in the dead of night as she peers into you with worried eyes.
  48. “Anon, I’m really scared. How do we beat someone- no, something like him? He toyed with us, like we were dolls in his sandbox. He could control me Anon, he could even control the void.” Monika’s eyes start to water again.
  49. You wrap your arm around her and hold her close. “I’m not sure just yet, being honest. But, I know I will find a way to break us out of here. I don’t know how just yet, but I know I’ll beat this guy and break free, I promise.”
  50. Monika smiles a bit. “You’re quite confident. I like that about you.”
  51. “I learned it from you, you know.” You smile at her, and she smiles back. “Now get some sleep.”
  52. Monika slides off you and turns her back to you. You follow suit, switching to your side to pull your feet up from outside of the covers.
  53. You drift off to sleep.
